Thanks for showing me how to put that together. I'm about to use a hole saw for the first time, but then I will have to use all different sizes for a while.

Can you adjust the height of the center bit? I need to drill something out but I don't want the center bit sticking down any farther than the collar of the saw.

What about the small mandrel how do you use it?

It is used to make a pilot hold to guide the saw blade in place

Product reviews for tools are far better when they reflect on the durability of the tool after some extended use.

If he'd actually used this set he'd realize just how bad it is. I had it. Threw in the garbage. Literally.

It is junk. The set screw that keeps the pilot drill bit in place repeatedly loosens up. I had to constantly tighten it, then eventually it stripped, rendering the entire unit useless. Also, the teeth are not sharp. I had extreme difficulty trying to cut through 3/4" oak. would not recommend.

Damn pilot bit won't go in straight on a 1 1/8" hole saw. I've tried setting it a dozen different ways, to no avail.

I learned as a kid that the pilot bit on a hole saw is not for drilling the pilot hole.
Reason: if you do that and the drill punches through the back side of the material, the saw will suddnely drop down onto the material, catch and maybe break teeth off. It's also sometimes difficult to see what you're doing with the saw in the way.
Solution: drill the hole first with a standard drill bit, then let the hole saw's pilot bit just act as a centering guide as you smoothly lower the saw onto the material.

Do not buy this hole saw. The damned pilot bit broke before finishing the first hole. Might be ok for plastic but it sucks for wood.

It has been fine on plastic

I'm sure it does fine sitting in a drawer for 4 years. Try using it. It's awful. Can't even do a decent job on pine. The arbor comes loose, regardless whether a wrench is used or not. The saws hardly cut. Sure, they'll barely go through thin plastic, as was seen in the video, so that must mean they're good. Ridiculous!

FWIW, this set has been around under one brand or another for at least 20 years. That's when I bought mine. It's terrible, no, horrible. Do yourself a favor and buy something else.
