i was stationed in Long Beach while in the Navy in 1976 and the old Pike area was really sleazy. My wife ( who is from Long Beach ) and I visited Long Beach this past September and the Pike area is beautiful, what a nice change Long Beach has really cleaned up We lived in long Beach after I got out of the Navy for a year and when we recently visited, we walked through the neighborhood where we used to live and loved it. Combined with beautiful sunny weather, it was a pleasure to visit
I was thinking of a move to LB but I'm a bit unsure of the sketchy neighborhoods and so forth. I know all places have their bad, but some more than others. What do you love most about actually living in LB?
+Powerpuffsisters Well, first of all, you are right about that their are some sketchy neighborhoods! But just in like every city in the US, there will be sketchy neighborhoods regardless of the population of the city and it's location. But most of Long Beach is very beautiful, especially downtown Long Beach, The Pike, The Beach, The queen Mary, East Long Beach, etc... But despite beauy, again, I will admit there are some really sketchy neighborhoods, but only in one area. Mainly far western Long Beach! But the rest of the city is delightful! My pesonal favorite place or thing about Long Beach is that the city doesn't have too much negative commotion. By the way, East Long Beach and North up to Lakewood, Seal Beach, Belmont Shore, and Carson, are especially beautiful. But the best part about Long Beach isn't just the beautiful scenery, architecture, history, and people around, it is also the perfect sorta-coastal area it is in. The temperatures aren't really that bad, nor weather conditions. And their is not much crime or havoc around. Long Beach is just the amazing plaace, that I personally advise for you to suggest and think we'll about living in Long Beach! My favorite part about the city is the Downtown, Coastal, and shopping areas, along with all the parks and recreational places. But yeah, I highly regard that Long Beach is a wonderful place to live, but probably a house in the eastern parts of Long Beach are most beautiful, and down by the beach are too. But it will be worth it just living here alone! Trust me, I know! :D

I just remember back-in-the-day there being a lot of gang violence around there, especially Compton. But I have heard --I don't know how true it is--a lot of that has cleared up a bit. A lot of changes? I am originally from L.A, then for the most part of my life I grew up in the mid-west, moved to Florida, which I can't stand. And now long to come back to California. I thought LB would be an ideal spot to start off as rent seems to be cheaper there than most places. But I don't want to end up in 'da hood' either!! I don't want to end up around gang bangers or any crap like that. I'd rather just stay put if that's the case. I live in West Palm Beach, Fla and while it's nice, beautiful and tropical here, it's no picnic either. So far, we've been blessed I can't complain. But yes, anyway, the more you can share with me, the more I'd appreciate. I like the idea of the temperature! We are coastal and get a breeze too but Florida is so damn humid!! Hurricanes and lightening storms, alligator attacks, yeah...they can keep it. Keep it all. (There, now we both made long paragraphs! :-) )

Although there are some beautiful extraordinary places in Compton, and homes and apartments are cheaper there, I suggest not to live near "da hood" of that place like you said! I am also happy you regard to live in Long Beach, cause it's a choice you won't regret, but it does take a lot of money, effort, and time to think up an action towards such a big step like moving from East coast to West Coast! It's a life changer. It will change your life completely, in a good way I would say, but yeah, it is a big step to make such a big decision! Maybe you can check around Google and look for some cheap homes or homes that can fit your personalized budget, cause there are some pretty nice and cheap apartments in great, beautiful areas all around Long Beach, but sometimes it's just a matter of looking and finding all over for the perfect living area! Cause your home, is your life. As for houses, there are also a wide variety of cheap but gorgeous homes around Long Beach as well! But I hope and I believe you would make a great choice if you decide to move here! Because it is a really big decision, and a big step forward! Moving to Long Beach, California is one of the greatest decisions I've made in my life, cause the area and atmosphere is just absolutely amazing! Probably one of the greatest coastal cities I've seen in America. Florida is also gorgeous as well, but there are a lot of natural disasters in the area regarding its weather and other stuff, but it's your choice! The only problem around here in Long Beach is probably the heat at sometimes, and the drought, but there's not anything much too around around here! Calm place! Hope you think about it more, Long Beach is just such a great place, trust me!
I miss the Shoreline Village!!! I rememeber when i was little there was a small shop that sold seashells and stuff like that and i had seen a moonstone that i wanted sooo badly
