Sadly I only got into this series a couple months ago, and I'm already 6+1 (played Ys IV both on SNES and TurboGrafx) games into it, and loving every moment of the series. It's such an underrated gem. Oath in Felghana is the next game on my list, and I'm really looking forward to it, since Wanderer from Ys is one of my favorite Ys games, especially the soundtrack on the PCE.

Johnny, don't know if you are already aware of this, but Ys Chronicles 1 and 2 are now on iOS and Android. I am a long time JRPG fan, but I never played this series before. I am now hooked on part 1. This game is absolutely perfect with touch control, and I normally hate touch controls! You can literally play the game with one hand, which is awesome since I have a newborn that needs to be held a lot right now. Awesome game so far!! Thanks for getting me excited about this series.

HEY EVERYONE! Falcom had an anime with Ys characters, as well as others Falcom characters, called Minna Atsumare! Falcom Gakuen that came out some-what recently (2015). This mini-series was a complete joy to watch and there are awesome/funny references of Ys that I know you will enjoy. (Warning! Everyone talks FAST in the show and you will only be able to watch it with English subtitles. Also the show doesn't take itself seriously, but that's what makes it so great! Also everyone's chibi).

Who the hell would want to collect Ys games? >.> *Looks at own Ys Collection* Oh right .... haha. :P
Man you really are pushing Ys related content lately and it is awesome!
I thought I was one the most hardcore active Ys collectors however it's funny I only buy a game here and there every few months or so. If I wanted to kick it into high gear and give up buying anything else I could snap up most versions with Ys
    *Puns are great!* .
But I enjoy taking my time and look forward to those *falcom fanatical spurts* where I won't buy a Falcom game for a few months and then just go nuts for a month or 2. I've got too many other awesome things I am committed outside of Falcom Collecting that help balance things out. Plus playing these kick ass games takes up most of my time haha.
That being said usually when a brand new Ys game comes out .... I usually go a bit nuts haha. I usually end up focusing on buying more Ys versions as a way to deal with my hype for the new game. 2016 is that year and it'll be interesting to see what happens.
Oh yes I can concur that Legacy of Ys for DS is quite lame (kinda average to be honest) . However I think 1 & 2 on the Famicom are my least favorite for various reasons.
Way to start off the new year with a bump! :D

I know many fans regard Ys III as a black sheep amongst the series, but, for me, it's the first game that brought me into Ys franchise and became its fan.
I seriously feel you. When I saw Ys VI on PS2, I seriously screamed "Fuck Yeah! Finally another Ys game!" because I thought Falcom was already went out of business after there had been no new Ys games for years (and they really almost did, according to the story I read).
Another interesting story about me and Ys is that, it's also the game that introduced me the Legend of Heroes franchise (Trail series, specifically). When I went to some random game shop and found a collector edition of Ys Seven, I picked it without a second thought. But when I went to the register, the man said he will give me discount if I purchase one more item, so, I went back and saw collector edition of PSP's Trail In the Sky lying next to the shelf I took Seven from, I picked it up as well because I remember hearing lots of praise for this game. And you I'm not disappointed in the slightest for the decision I made. Now I'm turned into a hardcore Trail fan as well.

Now the first game I ever played where you bumped into a mob was Hydilde and it wasn't terribly pleasant so when I first heard of Ys combat I sort of got an instant headache. I'll have to try it. I've been buy via gog so these aren't originals but very much remastered.

I've been a fan of the Ys series for over 20 years. I had so much fun with Ys I & II on the TurboGrafx-CD. I beat that game countless number of times. I was so fascinated by the anime cutscenes and voice acting, I would record them on the VCR and play them back again and again. Ys III was an oddball title, but I enjoyed at as well. Currently I have Ys Book I & II, III, & IV for the TurboGrafx/PC Engine CD, Ys I & II Chronicles and Oath in Felghana, which is freaking awesome, on the PSP, Ys Ark of Napishtim for the PS2, and Ys Origins for Steam.

@@japanesegamergirl1 I've been picking up a few games on my vita digitally, but I have a physical copy of Memories of Celceta, and it's honestly one of the most entertaining vita games out there. I'd imagine Lacrimosa of Dana is even better, but im looking to get a physical vita version when I have a chance. I don't care much for the switch and vita memory cards are more expensive than gold, so i gotta get a physical version.
On a side note, Ys is literally the only reason bussing to my college is even remotely tolerable. I lose like 12 hours a week on what would ordinarily be a 20 min car ride to bussing.

    • @MassayukiSama
      @MassayukiSama 7 ปีที่แล้ว

IV was made originally at a time that Falcom had fired a lot of people in the 90's, so they gave the script to developers that were interested in making the games, Hudson that had previously worked with them on Ys I, II and III for Tbgfx-16 and a developer for the Super Famicom that had worked also on the previous ports, the Tbgfx have superior graphics, music thanks to Ryo Yonemitsu arrangements, and cutscenes, but never came to the US, so fans dubbed over and translated the text on 2013.

    Hey Johnny!
I haven't seen this video yet, but I will! I'm watching your "Saving Christmas" video haha Unfortunately, it won't show up on my PC, is there a plug in or something or an add-on to help it run? I can only view Final Bosses videos on my phone.
If you don't see this, it's cool! Thanks for the content! I'll view it anywhere!

I have yet to play a single Ys game. I need to correct this problem. Thanks for sharing!

Quickest way into Ys: get on Steam and buy the Ys games on there. They're cheap, and you can play 1, 2, Oath in Felghana, Ark of Napashtim, and Origin. The first two games are in a pack for £9.99. Put your feet up, book the night off, plug in a controller and have fun.

I too blame my Master System for getting me into Ys. I picked up my compete copy for 45 bucks. Worth every penny and now my steam account is accumulating Ys games :)
