I remember the first time I played Gears of War on my Xbox 360 and saying out loud, "This is the future I dreamed about!" That was the biggest graphics leap I had seen since the jump from Snes to N64 and it was mind blowing!

+DreamcastGuy While I can certainly say the same about GoW, it kinda hurts to look back at the path this game forged for AAA development. But heck, back then, everything about the game made my jaw drop.

yeah it looks a bit dated today but it was a huge leap graphically over what I was used to on ps2 and original XBOX, not to mention a great co-op game, played through the entire game at least 3 times with split screen co-op.

Man, I've had some seriously good times with friends on the 360. Playing Halo 3, Halo Reach, Dead Rising, and Tales of Vesperia (the game that got me into the Tales series) will always be one of my best gaming memories. Also I think it's really cool you're speaking of Lost Odyssey so highly because that game deserves more love, I'm currently on the last disk and the game has made me cry more than once.

The best reason to own an Xbox 360 is for the mostly exclusive shmup library (especially since they were all released only for that console at the time) with Cave's games, Raiden Fighters Aces, Bullet Soul, Eschatos, Ginga Force, and the Shooting Love trilogy. Also, many cool Xbox Live Arcade games like Radiant Silvergun, Ikaruga, Virtual-On: Otomari Tangram, Rez, and many others; even Xbox Live Indie Games had some quality titles.

    • @PrinceDavid
      @PrinceDavid 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

+PinMike Great shmups on the 360, I love Cave. Unfortunately not all the Japanese games were region free but some are! At least Cave is pushing out releases onto Steam now. The Raiden games are also excellent on there. In Japan this was THE niche system for shmup fans.

    • @Ponimaju
      @Ponimaju 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

+PinMike Definitely a good reason - there are some region free retail shmups too from Japan and Europe. Quite a few decent JRPGs too though some like Star Ocean or Eternal Sonata got enhanced rereleases on the PS3 eventually anyway.

    Dear HCG,
Since early 2009, I have watched your show religiously. I have never missed a video, never missed a moment. When I was first getting into your show, I would even go through your archive and watch all of the videos on your channel, and I have to tell you...there is a true atmosphere to what you are doing. I can feel the presence of a true love for gaming when I watch your videos, and it emits through and strengthens my enthusiasm for gaming even more. I have been a gamer my whole life, but truth be told...your show has amplified my love for video games immensely, and I can only thank you for that, sir. I have watched you and Rob so much that I almost feel like both of you are old friends in a way. As odd as it may seem, when I watch your videos, I don't just feel like I'm watching a youtube video, I feel like I'm hanging with friends and talking about the world's greatest hobby that we all have been blessed with loving, video games! That's the power of your show, my friend! Thank you for the years of awesomeness, and never stop! Game on!
    Sincerely,
    Your Fan

I love the 360. I still remember when Mass Effect 2 came out, one of my favorite games of all time. It was actually exclusive to the 360 for it's whole first year, and Mass Effect 1 had nearly 4 years of exclusivity. My two favorite JRPGs of the 7th gen were exclusive to it, Lost Odyssey and Tales of Vesperia. Gears and Oblivion showed me that the 7th generation was truly here. Plus, many of my buddies were on Xbox Live, so online play with them left a lasting impression with me. I loved my PS3 for a lot of my great single player experiences, and I've always been a PlayStation guy (still am). But the 360 will always mean a lot to me :)

Still haven't found any good games to play on it? You know microsoft gave up on it too a couple years back. I'm kidding! I actually plan on getting one on the cheap to play lost odyssey, maybe blue dragon if I'm really desperate for Jrpgs. That's sadly one thing the sony totally borked for their ps3 for me. If it wasn't for FROM and level 5 there would be zero decent jrpgs to play unless you wanted to buy rereleases or remakes of classic ps1 titles.

Exactly what you said Johnny, Before Oblivion I was still playing Final Fantasy and other JRPGs on my PS1/PS2 and one day I ended up at a friends house for a band practice, he was playing oblivion...loaded his game, on a cliff edge with his horse over looking the vista and my mind was blown..I did dabble with Morrowind prior on my laptop but never had the chance to get going in that as my laptop broke.
But shortly after that, the elder scrolls series became a new kind of open adventure experience that I fell in love with, So many games are doing it now...the amazement has worn off because of it, but like Oblivion and more so, Skyrim blew my mind. I'm the next in the series will be nothing short of perfection.

That's wicked funny Johnny cause that's the same game that sold me on owning a 360!! I didn't have one, I think I was playing Twilight Princess on the Gamecube at the time an my friend brought over his Xbox and he had this. So I made a character and played for like 10 to 12 hours straight and I just got lost in this world. I didn't play morrowind so I wasn't familiar and when I got done I couldn't play any games on any other system till I got my own copy of oblivion for my own Xbox... Great video as always!

I remember playing Gears on a CRT then getting a VGA cable and hooking up my 360 to a monitor! I was blown away at the detail and atmosphere. My first ever 360 game however was Rainbow Six Vegas. Poured hours into that on Multiplayer, great memories! Still my favourite console of the last gen to play, I don't see me selling it any time soon. There are a ton of awesome games to be had for pennies now the next gen is out, now's the time to be collecting great titles for the system :) and the PS3 for that matter. Bargains Ahoy!

I really enjoyed all the classics on 360 like Elder Scrolls, Fable and Gears of War but in the past few years I've really gotten into the Japan exclusives for the system, especially the shooters by Cave, 5PB etc. Even now I'm still discovering new games for it, Phantom Breaker and Ogoun Muso Kyoku X for example, two really great 2D fighters.

Gotta say that the main things that stand out for me in my main Xbox 360 years as a kid before the Xbox One, (still have the 360 obviously but don't play it as often now). Mass Effect 1 and 2, halo 3-3 ODST and Reach along with call of duty 4 and 5. Those are just some of the ones I would play the most. Oh and Quantum of Solace because it was my first 7th gen FPS game.Great generation and some of my greatest childhood memories.

Halo 3 and Gears for sure! Probably my two favorite shooters for online of all time. Custom games in Halo 3 with 16 players was the most fun I've ever had playing an online game. Bioshock is an absolute favorite (Bioshock 2 had a crappy story mode but the online was really cool). Fallout 3 was incredible. Xbox live arcade had some gems like Castle Crashers (super fun co-op). They didn't come out at launch, but three of my favorite fighters of all time were on 360: MK9, Street Fighter 5 and MvC 3.

the older you get man the faster time flies...
One early memory I had was Project Gotham Racing on 360...flying around with amazing graphics, changing the camera angle on your car in a snap, awesome tunes playing, I said Wow this is next gen. Because at first there was a lot of question if 360 was truly next gen or maybe Xbox 1.5.
Probably the next most mind blowing was Gears of War, the first mind blowing 360 graphics.
And hah! I played 360 on a SD TV at first too. I think everybody did. In fact honestly I think 360 was one of the big drivers of HDTV adoption early on. Cause a lot of people and myself included got their first HDTV mainly for Xbox 360 use first. I had my 360 and I just knew I needed a HDTV to full take advantage of it.

I finally got another 360 after finding the latest model for $90 with a bunch of games at a pawn shop this summer. I haven't had a working 360 since I gave up on the console in frustration way back in early 2009 when I switched to the ps3. I have been enjoying buying a ton of games for the system the past few months. I've already got 30+ games and I haven't paid over $5 for any of them. Lot of great classics but most have been coming to steam the past few years. Still to this day I consider Resonance of Fate, Bayonetta, Red Dead Redemption, Gears of War, and Vanquish as the greatest experiences of this past HD generation (360/ps3).

I got my Xbox 360 on June 6th, 2006, with Project Gotham Racing 3 and Perfect Dark Zero. I have about 50 games for it (not many exclusives for it that I liked), but I really, really loved the era from 2006-2009 on the console, with the initial "Blade Dashboard" and the amazing lineup of XBLA games from 2007-2009. It felt like a great continuation from the original Xbox (which is still my favorite console of the three Xbox's; mainly because of the SEGA lineup in the first two years).

+Matthew J. Boone Dead Rising still kicks ass. Clunky controls/AI and all. Eventually I was glad I had 360 when GTA IV, Red Dead Redemption, LA Noire, Batman Arkham Asylum/City, Skyrim, Splatterhouse, Fallout 3, Darksiders 1&2, The Evil Within, Max Payne 3, Bioshock to name a few favorites.. Got a few retro collections too: Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection, Konami Classics vol.1, Capcom Digital Collection and Midway Arcade Origins.

years ago my buddy and I and his friend we at my place playing Morrowind on the original Xbox and I was going nuts over if for a few weeks before that. then we finished it that night and my buddys friend goes now you need to get oblivion... I had no idea what he meant then freaked out when I seen it. a few weeks later it was Xmas and I got my 360 and a copy of oblivion and melted into it . feels like yesterday. now I'm buying games for my son.

I only had the original xbox and after a month my parents sold it because me & my younger brother enjoyed ps2 more
But i tried the 360 out at a friends house for an hour and i wasn't into it and the controller was uncomfortable for me because i'm used to the PlayStation controllers and been with PlayStation since the beginning but i have to say xbox one looking nice right now that low price tag! It's been 10yrs for both consoles and that's crazy to think about...Remembering getting online for the first time for skate 2 and talking to other people while playing and i still have most of those friends i met online starting from i want to say 07 but great times man.

So, does that mean it's becoming "retro"??

+The Obsolete Geek Rise of the Tomb Raider, Transformers Devastation, and Metal Gear Solid V just came out for it. I'd say it's still current! The 360 may be on it's way out soon, but thankfully BC will help it live on.

+ABH That's what I thought about the ps2 to ps3. Do I still touch the ps2 games when newer games of ps3 came out? In the beginning of ps3, I played the ps2 games more but as time progress, I stop literally and concentrate on ps3. Same will happen to the ps4 which I currently own.

I did not get a 360 until 2008. I bought one for JRPGs at the time. My favorite game on the 360 was Tales of Vesperia. The game was awesome. I eventually sold the 360 because I did not have time for three consoles. Most of the games I wanted to play on 360 were either on PS3 or were coming out shortly. I also bought Ninja Gaiden 2 and Eternal Sonata. Both of these games eventually came to PS3 as well. I planned to play Star Ocean 4 as well, but I never got around to it. This game also came to PS3. I would not say my time with the 360 was a waste. I had fun playing Street Fighter 4 with a friend online. I am not into multiplayer that much, so I never was interested in playing Halo or Gears of War. Hopefully you do a PlayStation 3 video next year. That system is extremely underrated.

I would love to experience Lost Odyssey. I'm always unsure to get a 360 because almost everyone I know has had to replace their console 2 or 3 times. Was the final model stable?

I bought the Elites a week before they came out. The store I went to messed up and broke the release date. First one lasted a year, second one lasted 2 years and the third one I still have and it is now almost 6 years old.

The 360 got it right ok it had initial rrod issues but it was the first device capable of outputting hd signal on sale in uk in November 2005 and it was superb. I still have my launch day machine with the manufactured on date and I love the controller and the memories. It was my introduction to hd. Also loved the aesthetics of the original white one just looked clean and futuristic. Ten years eh. It was rammed home for me when it was the playstation 20th birthday I was like, it really does not feel like two decades since I was dying for an imported japanese one that Christmas in 1994.

I have so many nostalgic memories of the Xbox 360. I remember being blown away by the graphics when I first saw Viva Pinata (which looks like a decent mobile game by today's standards). But at the end of the day the best thing about the 360 was Xbox Live. It was my first experience playing online games. It made it so goddamn easy. I probably played more hours of Halo 3 online multiplayer than I slept in high school!

I didn't get a 360 until Rock Band came out because I was so interested in that game and I knew Harmonix was going to support that console the most. So a lot of my memories with the 360 have to do with Rock Band and the 100s of hours I played it and it's sequels/spin-offs.
I also really loved Earth Defense Force 2017.

I could've listened to you talk about every single one of those games. Oblivion blew me away too, I ended up spending 200+ hours on it. My original white 360 with no HDMI still works, I'm one of the lucky ones I guess.

Never played the original XBOX. Picked up my 360 around the time of Halo 3 - COD4 release and loved every second. Got FORZA 2 bundled with it and that was also excellent. It got the RROD on the GTAIV release date so that was a bummer but...10 years down the line, I'm still working through my backlog!

Loved the 360; the first games I ever played on it were Lost Planet and Grid. Loved all the really awesome exclusive rpgs like Lost Odyssey, Tales of Vesperia, Blue Dragon, Magna Carta 2 etc. Awesome shooters like Deathsmiles, Akai Katana, Dodonpachi. Fun hidden gems like EDF 2017, Naruto Rise of a Ninja, Condemned, Alan Wake etc. And everything in between covering all genres for many years on top of the awesome XBLA! (^.^)b

Oblivion was by far the most exciting part of the 360 launch. My dad had been playing Morrowind for months and I couldn't pull myself to get into it. When Oblivion hit, though, I was hooked in an instant. It felt like a whole new world of gaming.

The first time I had gotten the chance of playing a 360 was back in 2007 and the first title that I played on the system was Halo 3. My brother and I had a blast playing the coop campaign mode, which mostly involved trying to kill one another and finding as many glitches as possible.
But moving onwards, I liked the 360 quite a bit. While it's not my favourite home console of the 7th generation of gaming (that honour would go to the Wii due to myself preferring the exclusive lineup for that particular system despite the motion controls), I think it's still a pretty good system. It's a shame that the system does lack exclusives, but there are some that look pretty fun. Some of those being Wartech, Bullet Soul, Dodonpachi Ressurection, Infinite Undiscovery and Blue Dragon.
