- Sam Jones is in The Den to pitch his company Gener8, a user-led platform that allows people to either block their data from being used by companies or to make money from sharing information with the site. Sam's seeking a £60,000 investment for 10% of his company.

The company received a further £5.1m investment in March 2023 from a group of investors including the Dragons that invested here (plus Tej who came aboard). Company is now valued around £30m.
Sadly they already lost 15 million on the hipster owners' hair upkeep and it's a burn-rate that shows no signs of slowing down.

Very true but they also have a high uninstall rate from the lack of reward availability. Most reviews point this out, needing to compete in auctions for 5 pound gift cards is not a winning strategy.
@@wthwasthat8884 You do not know that they have a high uninstall rate because you have seen some negative reviews, that is an unfounded leap. Every company has their share of negative reviews online, even the biggest brands, it doesn't mean that their business strategy is wrong. Infact, a very recent £5m investment says the opposite.

Honestly though, in the world of remote work I'm surprised that any tech companies _need_ office space. Startups in particular could probably do without them entirely.
@@recursor9469 Work from home has its fair share of cons and whilst it is possible to work a lot of people would prefer the more social office setting.
It's so rare for someone to get exactly what they ask for. This guy cleaned up with more than what he asked for. Just amazing!
A great salesman and a great fearmongerer no doubt. But doesn't change the fact the product is utterly useless and doesn't provide a solution to what it claims it fights against.
I think Touker was happier to have finally given away the office spaces rather than the rest of the deal.
Sam is an amazing presenter - so confident, calm and informative. I try to channel Sam whenever I’m giving a presentation or delivering training 😊 Still one of the best pitches I’ve seen on DD 👍🏼

Amazing pitch, brilliant idea, outstanding delivery. He could have offered 5% for £60k and would have got a better deal. If every Dragon takes your opening offer, then you could have gotten better value.

🐉Notice at 00:24 the Dragons looked at the young entrepreneur Sam and thought that it was gonna be an ordinary pitch.
However, when Sam presented fluently and responding with security about questions on any potential flaws that can occur in Gener8, Touker was the 1st praised him 👨🏻🦲Gotta respect a rare but beautiful pitch in the Den📺

These companies make billions from our data and this company can only give us $5-25 a month
they make billions from everybody's data combined, it's less per user than you'd imagine and $25 a month is a lot compared to their competitor
It doesn't even give you that, you're not getting cash in hand. You're getting vouchers which btw are on a limit. So say you want Amazon vouchers but if they've run out of those, then you can only claim perhaps John Lewis vouchers. And if you never shop there within the deadline, that's your loss.

I don't see how this would make a difference. In order to use many of the sites that you enjoy eventually you will have to say yes to some of them. Most sites are tied into Google's ad network So once you say yes to one you have said yes to all

Reviews online state issues cashing out (due to limited amount of vouchers being released every week, ~100 amazon etc), some even calling it a scam. I think this was a bad investment for dragons.
Name one company that doesn't have online reviews from angry customers calling it a scam.
@@saintjimmy456 except this company has been doing the same thing for over a year now and has said it will be any day now that you can buy gift cards at a moments notice. They have definitely hit a wall when it comes to affording to pay out for the rewards.
@@saintjimmy456well, it is a scam if a company promises you something (in this case, vouchers) in exchange for something else (here: your data). So if you've completed your end of the bargain, but the company doesn't deliver theirs, it's understandable there will be frustrated customers and rightfully so!

Has anyone signed up for this and used it? Is it worth it?
1. Many apps and plugins (often free of charge) exist that do precisely that, and even more in some instances.
2. There will always be some degree of online surveillance no matter what we do. If you hypothetically can be a completely anonymous online user, then you will effectively lose all functionality that the website is designed to provide. So it's always something for something, it's not like you're gonna get something extra and lose nothing in the process.
3. The vision that this guy sold has nothing to do with his product, because his product doesn't and cannot provide that. What he essentially sold drug-ons was not just a dream... It was his wet dream of gigantic proportions!
Got two words for this man: Ad Block. And he can keep his fiver which will be the price of a loaf of bread next year.

the website is interesting. Its certainly not straight cash. Even things like supermarket vouchers dont really seem to be offered.
Many reviews say only a handful of vouchers per week are available so incredibly difficult to actually get. And many of the offers are not exclusive but simply open to anyone direct from the end company
@@lancealex382 between the pitch and now, its lost the "data in, cash out" policy. Sure cash is nice, but if it was "data in supermarket voucher out" that is good to.
The auction format however makes it more time consuming and more complex, not worth doing.
@@ianlister7333 it's now just data in lottery of something worth next to nothing out. The whole point of data ownership and value has been eradicated. I wonder how much of that was down to the dragons influence!?
@@lancealex382 yeah, I've seen their reviews on Google play. They got absolutely slaughtered in the reviews section, and rightfully so. Funny also how they averaged 4.4 rating, but after checking the most recent reviews (from the last month) I calculated their rating to be only 3.2 🙂 they're on a down down down trajectory for pulling this scam on people, and rightfully so.
