Is anyone else here in August of 2020 who still think ELO are musical GENIUSES??!! I love all their music, but the blending of opera, rock and roll and strings in this song are just sheer genius. I know I repeated myself, but genius is the only word that fits here. I was attending Boston University in the late seventies and early eighties and ELO brings all those memories back to me like they were yesterday. Rock on everyone!
I'm 65 and good music is still good music in 2024. Even though most all of it came from the days when we were in high school and a very few good years afterwards. Jeff Lynne can still rock. ❤️
I love this song too you know it's right up there in my top five elo's but where you get this thing about the Mr Blue skies most people's classic because you know to me dude everything out of the blue forward it's just knocked the edges off I don't know it's like I think everything from Mission back is much edgier and you know I mean the artistry and then those drum sounds in can't get it out of my head and strange magic you know come on man how can you put aria ahead of those? But I definitely love Jeff too ELO is my very first concert it was 1976 I believe and the first laser light tour ever you know and well I love the dude several of his songs I've played I played do ya and livin' thing way back when I was like 14 years old at a party. me and a drummer played at this party for a little 12-year-old girl and stuff you know but we got paid money so we got paid like you know 100. bucks a piece. Not bad money for 1977 the dude got his he was like a senior you know in high school and I was a freshman and he got his mom's van and we drove down to Evansville and did this thing. There's a little side note that first concert that I went to also had a couple other acts up singer-songwriter named Elliot Murphy and a little known band that was brand new and it just been formed by a couple of guys named Greg Rollie and Neal Schon and there was no Steve Perry present yet but yeah I got to see Journey the first tour and well we knew they were going to be big you know. Those were the days of really the best music I mean don't get me wrong I'm not one of these but I still love great bands You know One Republic kudos you know but the most of the music out there is not even music anymore you know Bruno Mars great you know Alicia Keys real talent but you know most of this stuff is like I don't know but you got to look for it Larkin Poe you know. I love the little chicks in first aid kit too but it's just you know you don't hear of these people you know never mind.
Most of the comments are years old. Well this one isn’t. What a song. What a performance. When musicians actually played their instruments. Just a classic tear in the eye song which makes you know that life was better then.
Jeff Lynne should be crowned as the king of music, or at least orchestra. He’s just so talented. And ELO is insanely underrated, it’s so annoying. All that is praised by them is mr blue sky which is honestly not even close to as good as a lot of their other songs. But it still is really good.
Roscoe Peterson ; Are you sure about that I did not know the move featured strings and fusion of “CLASSICAL and rock I thought the move was basically a precursor to what would eventually be punk rock I saw a documentary on the move and I saw no string instruments other than guitars of course at all I was thought of them as a precursor to a punk and while strings have always been featured on pop records going back to the 1950s yellow as far as I know who’s the first band tour with the “CLASSICAL orientedString section!
How can anyone watch this video and not agree that Jeff Lynne and ELO belong in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? They have inducted many other acts not nearly as talented.
+Danny Blevins Being in the rock and roll hall of fame means nothing, just look at some of the rubbish in there and none of them can touch Jeff Lynne. I've always thought that you don't need awards ect, to prove your worth.
I saw them in concert in Greensboro way back in the day. Rockaria wasn't even in their set, but there were people holding signs in the audience requesting it. Jeff and the band went offstage to get the sheet music and came back and played it. Love the Boys from Birmingham!
Here we are in 5/2023 and their music is still out of this world! I'm 70 and feel 25 yrs old when I listen to ELO. Way, way, way ahead of their time. Actually I don't think the universe will ever catch up to them 💗
Subscribe to the ELO Channel it's free. Click on the black button above. Jeff Lynne is a phenomenal musician, producer, singer, songwriter and arranger. He creates the best fusion for Rock with Classical instruments. The end result is symphonic Rock and Pop with fabulous harmonies. Long live Jeff Lynne’s Electric Light Orchestra (ELO).❤❤❤
You just sit there and imagine how difficult it is to do something like this. If you aren't a musician, you have no idea. Jeff Lynne and ELO were music changing monsters, a genre in its own right!
I'm not a musician, and I have no idea how to play or arrange or anything else when it comes to putting a song together, but like Jeff, I do have a good ear, and I know absolutely great music when I hear it. JEFF lynne and ELO are all exceptional musicians, and their talents will never be touched by another musician.😊
Jeff Lynne is a musical genius, he crafted a rock and roll song with cellos, violins and opera so beautifully! ELO is the most advanced band to THIS AGE! ❤️ ALL THE MEMBERS NEED MORE RECOGNITION!

It's a crime that kelly Grocutte seems to b a foot note in elo history...i followed elo from the start ...15 elo concerts...when kelly joined elo for Eldorado tour...the magic spark was lit...jeff & Kelly's powerful live vocals...and sweet studio harmonies ....that sent elo to the top,....wasn't happy that jeff didn't get behind kelly when he asked for a royalty bonus for the elo vocal sound (a judge ruled in Kelly's favor) jeff should have just thanked kelly and handed him a bonus check, not make him ask for it...hard feelings dont heal easily and elo was done as i saw it......just dont understand ...
I Was Lucky Enough To Catch Them With What Appeared To Be Nearly A Full Orchestra Behind Them...All Miked Up!... They Were Louder Than Motörhead... A Great Show 😀👍
My best memory of ELO is seeing them in concert in Adelaide, 1979. Just an incredible experience! Rockaria moves me in so many different ways, including my soul I’m sure.
ELO was my favorite band as a teenager. Around 1978 my best friend Dave Miller and I would sit around listening to ELO and just hanging out. Over the years I haven't listened to them as much as I did back then, but today I've been listening to pure ELO for the last couple of hours. I forgot how many great songs they made. I mean, how could I forget Rockaria?! What is the matter with me?!
1978 was definitely their high point, I think. Out Of The Blue had just been released the previous fall and was hitting its stride in '78. I remember it vividly. 1978 was overall a good year for pop music.
I was 8 years old when this album came out . My dad bought this album back in 1976. I would sit on the veranda, outside the house, underneath the open living room window enjoying my Dad play this. I could sing softly (and loudly) to myself to each and every tune. Wonderful childhood, fantastic songs that I can still recall word for word 40 years later. I have tried in vain over my lifetime to find another album that is as good, or better than this one. Am still searching !
I came across it at 13 or 14 when a guy I was at school with had the single, not long after it was a hit,and I stuck it on his record player while he'd gone out somewhere and we were hanging there aimlessly one day. Thought it was ace straight away.
Thanks, for your wonderful words, Dave Young! There is so much, that I would like to say... I love the possibility of slipping back in time by listening to such great music! Of course, there are lots of emotions and... missing words... THANKS!!!
Awesome song! Although in this live performance, the opera singer doesn't repeat the false start from the album. I miss that! I thought it was a touch of brilliance of Jeff Lynne to leave it in on the album. My oldest brother saw ELO on their Time tour, and now my youngest sister has tickets to see Jeff Lynne in Indy! Good for them! Rock on, Jeff!
Love the shot of Hugh McDowell strumming his cello with his hand like a guitar. They certainly don't behave like normal string players, do they? A few years before, the idea of cellos and violins playing together with guitars, bass and drums would have seemed like madness, but ELO make it look and sound like they always belonged together.
I was stationed at the American embassy in Skopje in 1999 or 2000. Met some locals who took me to some underground live music places. One had a band with a lead singer who was actually one of the main singers for the national opera. Great voice, but she had to read lyrics while singing. But was a great night and damn, that girl could sing. This song always reminds me of that.
From 1972 to 1986 Jeff Lynne's Electric Light Orchestra has had more top 40 hits than any other groups in the world. 50 years later they still play in sold-out Arenas and Stadiums. I just saw them this Summer of 2019 on the US and Canada Tour...( Best Concert of my life) All the reviews agree they are the best live act in the world and Jeff Lynne is a Music Genius. They are in the Rock Hall of Fame. Lynne is on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame and Birmingham Walk OF Fame. Jeff Lynne’s ELO won the Best Classic Rock Band plus Lynne won the best Song Writer award ( ASCAP ) 2019 for his fantastic contribution over the years. The Legends in the Music Industry call Jeff Lynne the best overall Musician ever and a Producer Extraordinaire. Long live Jeff Lynne’s ELO! Please Tour in 2020!
I thoroughly agree with you Music Lover. I came over from Australia and saw them at Tacoma - the best concert I've ever seen, and I've seen a few (80 years old!). Oh, I also came to see my son and his beautiful wife who live in Seattle!!
this comments page is so uplifting ,not a cross ward or bash,no pissing contests. we can most likely attribute this the the brilliance of jeff and the band but i digress. this is something special to see so many in agreement HATS OFF YOU TUBERS, and of coarse LONG LIVE THE ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA
Jeff Lynne, how talented is he. To write rock songs and include an orchestra to sound that GREAT. This man is a genius. Induct him into the ROCK and ROLL HALL Of FAME.
Vielleicht müßte man Lynne mal direkt anschreiben.
I simply can't believe it took me turning 70 to listen to ELO!!!! I was 69 when I first heard Jeff Lynn singing with GH, RO, BD, TP, with, hands down, the BEST SUPER GROUP to ever sing and play. I had led a VERY SHELTERED LIFE. So thankful to YT and the folks who posted TW and ELO for my listening pleasure.
I don't know if ELO was underated but Lynne brought a style of music that not many heard before. Top forty radio stations weren't ready for this change until people that did hear it (they bought the album's or heard it from a friend) and started calling stations to play ELO. I was in Hollywood at a station as a Radio/TV student and witnessed this.

No one could ever duplicate their sound. Not even close. So original! Now if a band wants an orchestra sound they have to hire an orchestra outside of their band and then play along but that's not even done anymore. These guys Are One in a Million.
Rockaria is one of the best tracks from ELO's 1976 album A New World Record. I like how they use the opera singer in the song and how it turns into a rave up Chuck Berry/Rolling Stones style.
Magníficos Músicos, orquesta ion perfecta... Muy buena música, perfecta. Son músicos de conservatorio y preparados. Ya no se hace música así desgraciadamente. Perfectos Músicos ❤
Who besides me still listens to ELO here in 2023, and considers Jeff Lynne not merely a musical genius but a musical god??
100%!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think the same thing in 2024.
absofuckinglutely!!!!
He's a God!!!
Still here in 2024 🤟

this tune and Mr.Blue Sky IMHO are a cut above their extremely high rest!
Still here '22
Rock on gentlemen, rock on! This is Rochele, rmassa8, and I still am! Cheers!😄
I agree
The Music is masterpiece I found it from masquerade repack and from now on I'm an ELO Fan
2024 and this 64 year for old man still "diggin the grooves" of E.L.O...brings back my high school days .
Ditto! My all-time favorite group.
Always come back to this great band.
Me too 😂 64 and still going strong with ELO 😎
Yup! It has influences of Elvis Presley and as Marina Pryor.
I'm 65 and good music is still good music in 2024. Even though most all of it came from the days when we were in high school and a very few good years afterwards. Jeff Lynne can still rock. ❤️
Mr Blue Sky was *the* classic for most people, but this is my personal favourite.
The most underrated band in the history of music.

All over the world trumps all 😊
Telephone Line is the best
Underrated band with so many great classic songs that will never grow old.
2024, been listening to this band since childhood , I am 54 and they still give me goosebumps!!! This band is genius!!! Jeff and the boys take a bow!!
Most of the comments are years old. Well this one isn’t. What a song. What a performance. When musicians actually played their instruments. Just a classic tear in the eye song which makes you know that life was better then.
True!
Well said!!!
It’s starting to get old but you’ve earned a thumbs up from the old codger
Your comment is years old now
My comment in June 2024. Wish thet'd start all over again. I wouldn't miss a thing that way.
I wasn't born until 1989 but when I heard this group for the first time I was blown away . This record is awesome .
ELO IS THE BEST ROCK & ROLL ORCHESTRA IN THE WORLD! Jeff Lynne is a genius!
DAAR AAaA😮is ZAAD AAzz
Gun band !!
T Rex are great as well
My all time favourite ELO track, the great ROCKARIA
Far out - how did the ELO boys feel after recording this for the first time - did they know that they just delivered a timeless masterpiece.
Jeff Lynne should be crowned as the king of music, or at least orchestra. He’s just so talented. And ELO is insanely underrated, it’s so annoying. All that is praised by them is mr blue sky which is honestly not even close to as good as a lot of their other songs. But it still is really good.
A helluva lot more is praised by them than Mr. Blue Sky.
He joined a band called the move, and stole their formula
I can't get over Hugh's performance. Man you had to leave us WAY TO SOON. Rest in paradise Hugh. You are so very much missed!!
@@roscoepeterson1290 learnt all he knows from the great man Roy Wood .

Well, they're in now, along with Yes. Both were long overdue to be inducted.

Jeff Lynne is in a class his own...always has been
I Was Lucky Enough To Catch Them With What Appeared To Be Nearly A Full Orchestra Behind Them...All Miked Up!... They Were Louder Than Motörhead... A Great Show 😀👍
I saw ELO on their very first tour in Newcastle, England in the very early seventies, and they blew my socks off then and still do
I’m sure that was an amazing concert!
Jeff Lynne could still make old Beethoven himself stand up and rock all night in 2024.
My best memory of ELO is seeing them in concert in Adelaide, 1979. Just an incredible experience! Rockaria moves me in so many different ways, including my soul I’m sure.
I saw them in 81 while tripping!
I was at the Horden Pavillion Sydney Showgrounds for their 1975 Sept 1 "Face the Music" Tour.
And I love the opera singer.
Makes me emotional !
It's Mary Thomas. She was a well known opera singer. She's deceased now.
The ending of this song from 2:37 must be one of the most fantastic bits of music ever written. Raises the hairs on the back of my neck everytime
Jeff Lynn is your favorite classic rockers favorite rocker... the absolute genius that never gets the credit he deserves
I blast the hell out of this song when I'm on the open road . LOVE IT SO MUCH!!

I can see Hugh rockin and rollin that cello in Heavens orchestra. RIP HUGH.
my favorite elo song.....most underated band
Three minutes you could listen to 20 times in a row and make a nice hour for yourself.
That Jeff Lynne leaves the opera singers early entrance in this song shows an integrity to his music that makes him ingenious and authentic. Rock On.
Still listening in 2023 Jeff lynne is a musical genius and Ilisten to him/them every day I've liked them since I was 15 Iam now 60.
i love elo one of THE best bands of the 70'/ early 80' !!

High School in the 1980s. Growing up in Macon, GA. Everyone was all about other famous bands, I was into ELO and my Mom Liked them too!!!

I am 68 and ELO have been there through most of my adult life. If I were to write an autobiography - every one of their songs would be it!
One of my all time favourite songs. No other band has one like it. I saw them play in 1978, a real blast.
Awesome song! Although in this live performance, the opera singer doesn't repeat the false start from the album. I miss that! I thought it was a touch of brilliance of Jeff Lynne to leave it in on the album.

A few years before, the idea of cellos and violins playing together with guitars, bass and drums would have seemed like madness, but ELO make it look and sound like they always belonged together.
RIP Hugh McDowell
Oasis picked up on it in 1994..Noel Gallagher never gives the cred's that he should.
He has imitated Lynne's guitar style often enough.
They did always belong together. Mel, Hugh and Mik. Magical. What else can I say. Rest in Paradise 🙏 Hugh. I miss you so much.
@@tonyaelliott4070 Absolutely. Those three were magical. And were treated very badly in 79 when Jeff fired them. They found out the news by post.

Jeff Lynne, how talented is he. To write rock songs and include an orchestra to sound that GREAT. This man is a genius. Induct him into the ROCK and ROLL HALL Of FAME.
He is in with ELO but he also deserves to be as a solo artist as well like all the Beatles were.
Impresionante!!! Está banda es genial !!!! Poco valorada, Jeff sos un genio..
Concuerdo!!!
Jeff and the band as a whole have been under rated and understated unfairly.
Mary Thomas Soprano, brilliant!
That's what really moves me in this track

I'm not sure Lynne shouldn't be listed FIRST!
Summer, 1977, the Spotatorium, Hollywood, Florida. If you weren't there, you WERE square!
One of the most underrated groups of the 1970s, IMHO.
Going to see the ELO experience in April 2023. Can’t wait! I’ve always loved this music.
I wish i could go!
Best ELO track, hands down. The amount of energy in this song is amazing!
My first concert 1978 and still freaking great!
ELO is one of, if not THE, most underrated 1970s bands.
What exactly does that mean? Underrated? By whom?
Love ELO!

Vielleicht müßte man Lynne mal direkt anschreiben.
Jeff Lynn you are one of the best always.
Only ELO can play a bass or a violin on stage like it's an electric guitar
AGREE
Jeff Lynne (ELO) is a fantastic musician, singer, composer and producer. ❤❤❤Pure Rock and Roll!
Legendary music from Jeff Lynne & ELO, 50 years of greatness
Jeff sang this great song very well last year at the VetsAid Concert 👌🎶🎵🎶
Love this epic song! Long live Jeff Lynne and ELO.
Fantastic.......

STILL HAVE THE ALBUM OVER 40 YEARS AGO!
"BRAVO!!".
My favourite ELO song!
Yeah
mine to😁
Me two this song goes off its one of my favourites ,Jeff Lynn is amazing !
ELO, Queen, David Bowie, Bryan Ferry and the Bee Gees. Music was fab back then
I don't know if ELO was underated but Lynne brought a style of music that not many heard before. Top forty radio stations weren't ready for this change until people that did hear it (they bought the album's or heard it from a friend) and started calling stations to play ELO. I was in Hollywood at a station as a Radio/TV student and witnessed this.
R.I.P Hugh McDowell, brilliant on the cello
Blows my mind heart & soul even more these crazy days.... God 🙏 bless ELO... Inspirational
Cello player makes this video even more impressive. The best ELO line up ever.
Absolutely as cool as it gets
Heading to Dallas to hear him perform. Can’t wait!
ELO, The original, best and perfect mix of rock and classical music. True pioneers, have loved them from the 70's to today. No one like them......

Contains the best lyric of a pop song "She loves the way Puccini lays down a tune." So Rock n Roll.
A GOAT for sure!!! This band is the epitome of pure brilliance. Still enjoying in 2021. Nothing like this on the radio today!!!
jeff lynne wrote so many amazing songs.... and this one is probably my favorite...!!!
He said he wanted his music to go out and touch people and it certainly did. Jeff lynne is a genious
ELO were fantastic. Jeff Lynne....Legend. Totally unique, i love bands that can do that and still be listenable in 2014!
Still listenable in 2020, and beyond 😏
