      @syedaleemuddin6804 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes true. This is because Seinfeld was more a sitcom and as well as the scenes and stuff was rather predictable. But however Curb is very original, for example 5 seconds hug to a black lady, Nazi whistle and Sean Penn opening a store. These things are totally unpredictable

      They're totally different shows. Despite being about minutiae of life... Seinfeld really was about the group and their 4 personalities and how those 4 react in specific situations with a sitcom audience watching - ao the actors are hemmed in by the audience and the script to a sitcom style.
      Curb feels more natural and real due to its improv nature and lack of audience, but also despite its cast, it centrally focuses on Larry and how misunderstood his intentions/actions are in this more real world where most ppl (including celebrities) play themselves. There is no feeling of them being "watched" by an audience since there's no audible laughter at jokes or canned laugh track either... so some may find this style more relatable and less performance. Especially now there are far more cinematic style TV shows due to streaming... but in 2000, Curb was very ahead of its time and ppl took a minute to catch on to the mockumentary improv style.
      I love both as they're totally different but both were brilliant for their time, especially Seinfelds smaller less elaborate episodes like dinner party/parking garage where the entire thing happens in one location so the focus is dialogue/character interaction and the delivery of VERY well written dialogue that got to shine.

    I always thought Jeff's 'silences' in scenes was spot-on. I think Larry often put his manager into an awkward position, so Jeff often had to keep his counsel. I think it worked that Jeff let Larry do his thing. As an agent, Jeff understood his client, he understood Larry's eccentricities. Jeff (actor and character) was wonderful in that way. Bad sitcoms would have got Jeff to intervene more and say a lot more. It just wasn't needed.

  • @stevebrewer6632
    @stevebrewer6632 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    I am a loyal listener, I think both of you are indispensable. Jeff, your insights are invaluable: I’ve learned facts about stand-up, producing shows, Chicago(love that city!) and even LA manners and morals that are terrific.
    BUT, please empower a producer or director to stop your interruptions (if that’s what a producer or director does.)
    Please do not pout or dismiss this criticism. I want this show to continue; I look forward to you both each Thursday. However, the continuity is broken by the interruptions. A millennial I know eager to listen said this after two episodes and stopped listening. I continue, with increasing annoyance though the habit seemed to improve until the last couple of shows, when it worsened.
    My suggestion? Get a notepad, let Susie or the guest finish their thought, and use your notes to bring up your points. Improv on a highly edited show may be great;conversational shows require awareness of the audience, if they’re not edited, a wholly different art.

    I just can’t listen to this podcast anymore. 1) It shouldn’t be longer than an episode of Curb. 2) We don’t need an excruciatingly tedious recap of the entire episode. Assume people have fairly recently seen the show. We can ALL stream it whenever we want. 3) Jeff is frequently interrupting Susie with details that are often wrong or simply irrelevant. Stop mansplaining everything Jeff. You’re behaving like a boor. 4) If you can’t self edit when recording, then have your producers edit afterwards. Most everything here adds nothing to the viewing experience. The only episode of this podcast that was worth watching was the one where Larry was your guest. The rest were completely unmemorable.

      Agreed. Same. In previous episodes he has explicitly acknowledged that he can be an arsehole, and he has then gone on to confirm that. My assessment of him is that he is mostly good-natured, but that he has an innate minor arsehole component that will always see the light of day if he's given enough time to speak - though really I think he could do more to attempt to curb his innate arsehole. In real life, I try to avoid this kind of person, because they can be too much to deal with. In the case of this podcast, I overlook his arseholitude because the positives (chiefly Susie's wisdom and loveliness) outweigh the negatives. I do wish he would work on his self-awareness, though.

    What bothers me the most about Jeff and his insufferable "by the way" tic is his refusal to just own it. He can't just say "hey, it's been brought to my attention, I wasn't aware that I was doing it so much, now that I've seen and heard it for myself, I will try to knock it off. I know it's annoying." Oh no. He has to take a typical Hollywood celebrity approach to addressing it. It's not his fault, it's not something he can control. He has to be a victim. It's not him, it's his self-diagnosed ADHD and OCD issues. He can't help it. So typical and so tiresome.

      @@jankelly2003 It's mostly not edited? You know nothing about the show. They already confirmed in the podcast that quite a lot hits the cutting room floor. Don't you remember how they said their back and forth at the end of scenes is often cut because it doesn't add to the story? Improv would imply more editing, not less, as the actors are free to invent and freewheel. Besides, the point remains that Jeff interrupting or otherwise not doing the scene right would not make it to the screen, so the broadcast episodes are no guide anyway to what he is like.
