Just starting to enjoy your videos (just gave up full size gliding and thinking I might get back in RC flying) as I'm looking for a suitable STOL model. I was trying to see if you had reviewed the Multiplex Fun Cub XL but can't find a review. Meanwhile I saw this. I did my Silver Distance gliding badge in a K8 and used to know them well, having done many memorable flights in them. Great plane as long as you don't want to fly into a stiff wind and get somewhere!
@@BrianPhillipsRC oh I know that one ha ha. I bought a beautiful vintage Graupner big glider kit to build in my retirement a few years back. It's still in the loft! I used to design, build, and write for the model magazines. Now I just want a foamie to get out and fly with. Loved your Arrows Husky build but those connectors look a pain on the field. Just come across the FMS PA-18 Super Cub that looks great value, great undercarriage and, most importantly, plug in electrical connectors for the wings. Will you be reviewing that one? (or maybe you have and I've missed it - old age 🙄😆)
I can't hardly find anyone who has added motor and folding prop, so I guess I'll just have to take it on myself! Now that it's been discontinued, why would I NOT finally answer the unanswered questions of 2005 - LOL!
For a motor you should have it on a pole that has a small piece of rubber or something holding it flush hit when you give throttle it comes up and when you don’t it goes down and keeps the plane nice and slick
I was thinking that might be simpler too, since I could use a non-folding prop....but then how do you get CG to work out, since it'll almost certainly mount behind the CG??? I think this is a real possibility thought...got me thinking.
@@BrianPhillipsRC you can either get the high start that is recommended for it go to a rc field and have someone tow you up. I still have one and just moved back to my hometown in OK.
I was thinking about either just plain packing tape for the floppy wings, or doing a "fiberglass" strip method that might work okay too. As for no speed, I hope that once I get the wings stiff, I can get the speed figured out. I trust your judgment, as I know you know what you're talking about, but you might have a slightly skewed opinion of this $120 glider, since you have many very nice ships! Thanks for sharing! I still need to work out my self launching method.
What I mean is that it will be great for thermals on a almost no wind day, but don't expect a fast glide upwind and good gain in altitude again after a dive :) or good performance on a slope. (Compared to a non Scala, non foam glider :) )But looking good in the air. We use the glider for towing practice, after Funcub size planes.
I was afraid you'd suggest these things... Thanks for the info! Hope to get some good footage on her. Do you suppose if I made her heavy enough, It would slope better?
That would be cool, since then I could keep the scale lines. Only issue with EDF's is that they are so dang loud, and power suckers. I have the Arcus M 2222mm, which has and RMS (retractable motor system), but honestly the FMS Moa 1.5m ( www.horizonhobby.com/moa-pnp--1500mm-p-fmm071p ) has a similar shape and color and MIGHT be a good fit. I bet the 9X5 folding prop could produce sufficient power, since I'm really only trying to "bring the glider to altitude". I hope someone comes forward with the silver bullet on this video, so I can just copy the hard work - LOL
G’day Brian Could you mount a motor on a stalk on top of the wing join? Would the Timber tow it? I love my two Conscendo gliders with safe Great video both of you
Timber would tow it, but would need a pilot, then there's the issue of having both this and that plane bound to the same transmitter :(... Have you seen my Consendo playlist??? If not, you should check it out :) Here's the link... th-cam.com/play/PLXTH0DstRDc6H0WBgTA7y9yrOMPRk-TOu.html
90mm ?!?!? No way, that's super expensive and like TONS of thrust... I was actually thinking about a 50mm EDF that I have from my A320 (which is dead-ish), since I'd have EDF, Nacelle, and ESC. Maybe this would make a nice "power pod", then I could just make a stick that's removable if I don't like it, or come up with a nicer nose mounted folding prop... ...but 90mm - FYI, since you got me thinking... YEP 100A (2~6S) SBEC Brushless Speed Controller $44.34 Dr. Mad Thrust 90mm 11-Blade Alloy EDF 1700kv Motor - 2300watt (6S) Standard Rotating $93.99 Turnigy 3000mAh 6S 30C Lipo Pack w/XT-60 $29.45 Price BEFORE shipping....$138.33 (priced as a platinum hobbyking order) + ~$15 for the shipping totals...Global + US WHSE Which yields in rough figures... Max Voltage: 22.2V (6S) Max Amps: 92A Max Thrust: 3.0kg + 785g KA-8 + 350g EDF + 125g ESC + 507g Lipo ---------------------- 1767g Which gives us about a 1.7 Power to Weight Ratio AKA It'd be a very expensive, weird looking rocket ship with bendy wings...LOL :)
The Timber 1.5m would tow it great, but then I'd have both planes bound to my individual DX18. Even if I could somehow convince my wife into piloting the Timber (which she couldn't, at this point in time), I'd have to get another transmitter :( Esteban has a Sport Cub S 1.2m, which could probably tow her up....but then we'd have two crashed planes:( ...how far are you again??? LOL
Very Nice airplane I love your videos so much😍😍
Thanks Christen!
I;m looking forward to seeing this one fly. :-)
Me too!!! It's gonna be a beauty!!!

Welcome Mike! This plane is still sitting in it's box...I can't believe it. I NEVER finished it!!!

Brian Phillips 😁😁
I wish horizon still sold this glider cause imo it’s one of the best scale foam gliders I’ve flown.
I have it NIB still - I never built it!

Wow she’s a beauty
We have one in the my RC club, It has a low sink rate but no speed at all and the wings are way too flappy,.
I was thinking about either just plain packing tape for the floppy wings, or doing a "fiberglass" strip method that might work okay too.

I think the wing is too soft for more weight, just keep is stock and light and fly it in calm conditions: ;) th-cam.com/video/z63BU83FwQg/w-d-xo.html
I've seen this before. Those guys are crazy! Can't believe the KA-8 survived!
P.S. I have a real hard time keeping planes stock ;)
Cool plane brother. The flitetest guys piggy backed it on an apprentice. I'm sure you probably saw that video too though.
lol I made my comment before I heard you talk about the flite test guys.sorry
How cool would it be to put a folding out EDF motor on there somehow. I couldn't ever figure it out but I'm sure you could

How many planes you got now brian lol. You and the Mrs going to have to build larger house to store them.
Billy Barrett Getting tight with planes - a good problem
You could stick a nice edf on the top
Riley Howe-mills That's true, and I have one
Brian Phillips I think you should maybe a good quality dr mad thrust or something 90mm maybe ?
