Your "frozen lake" is actually a fjord. One of many on the southwest coast of the South Island. It is the Tasman Sea that fills the fjord. Once in a blue moon, snow may fall in Milford Sound, however, it never settles enough to provide the winter scene in these graphics. The road into Milford Sound is often closed by snow in winter & during winter & spring there is also the risk of avalanches. As you said, it is definitely a beautiful & spectacular part of New Zealand to fly. Incidentally, the course at the top of the hill is for downhill luge riding & not go-karts. Luge is way more fun!
You will find if throttle is all the way back; engine will lop at lowest rpm....engine will rattle like marbles in a can as engine comes to correct temp,rattle gone n engine engine runs about 800 rpm,when ready about 900 rpm,check engine oil,temp n find it right where it's supposed to be for takeoff.never rush warmup.youll get to TBO easily 4000 hrs in type; only 1 cracked cylinder,#1 on left engine usual suspect.whar happens when others fly your bird....
I think the Checklist is either missing some stuff or its hidden behind having to click on the item and read the extra comment text. Like it doesn't tell you turn the generators on, and having the mixtures in cutoff it doesn't start. Other than that, its a fun little workhorse. Handles well, like you'd expect. Trims nicely and bounces satisfyingly with turbulence. Butt ugly though, lol. I landed on those two little grass strips north of Milford Sound that came with the update... the first was kind of into the trees because I was going to fast but the second went much better with the whole STOL approach. Cool little airstrip too, not much space. I see you were maybe having the performance issues I was having at Milford Sound (and the other new airstrips) with the Caribou... not sure if it was the plane or the airports.
This also happens with the weather in the part of Switzerland I live in. In MSFS, there's snow and the lake is frozen, whereas in real life we don't have any snow at the moment. As far as I know, the lake has never iced up that much either. The water definitely freezes too frequently in the sim though. Other Swiss lake are shown as frozen, however they really aren't.
I think I figured out how snow coverage works in MSFS: If there is any area around with snow (e.g. very high mountain tops), then suddenly all elevations are covered in snow, even on sea level and salt water inlets. I like flying float planes and have no choice other than use a weather preset, not live weather in such cases.

I can only imagine how good that looks in VR, looking back through the cargo bay and seeing the cargo door open and close.

It can be 70 degrees in real life and some areas covered in snow ⛄️

Yeah live weather hates this area. You won't see anywhere in NZ having saltwater frozen over. Especially since we're still in summer haha

For a world update, the elevation mesh is disappointing, and the ground textures are still rubbish.
It’s a ugly bugger but it can STOL like a boss.
