Quick question. I watch a lot your vids. In the later generation I see you don't really use mega or max evolution that much. Is there a specific reason or is that for difficulty?
Silph used Rock Tomb 6 times and only hit once. The chance of him hitting all six rock tombs is 26% chance. Not great but he only really needed two to get a KO on Altaria. The chance of him missing 5 out of 6 rock tombs is 0.026% chance. That's some really sh*t luck.
24:10 JSYK, Jennifer has a Sableye and not a Milotic in Emerald. GameFreak actually nerfed her after apparently realizing Milotic in the rain might be a bit much to handle. (The Milotic returns in ORAS.)
Black Belt Nob is actually present in many games since Gen2 (the first one in which the trainers had names). He is one of Chuck's Gym trainers in GSC, he has a Machoke with Rock Slide, which could only be learned by this mon in Gen1. He is a Hiker in FR/LG and this Black Belt in RSE. Nob happened to be the game's original translator iirc, and his way to be included in the game was as a fighting type trainer, his favorite type. Later the franchise decided to part ways with him but you can see Nob on every game from Gen2 to Gen4.
I love the fact that you do a bit of studying ( or refreshing) before each nuzlocke to give the best possible outcome for each one...and the commentary is great too!!
Very solid run! I didn't even know about that Meditite encounter method so that was a pleasant surprise. It was a good effort with Steven at the end. Skarmory was the most annoying there. It usually is even under Winona too. The Liza Tate sweep was the most hilarious thing because you have fighting types.
Crazy how losing one team member can fuck up the entire run/make battles way harder than they need to be. Losing breloom was a huge blow and could've trivialized a few battles.

33:12 Remindes me of a pokemon showdown match I recently had. My Blastoise got paralyzed by Togekiss, Blastoise missed toxic, got air Slash flinched twice in a row, got fully paralyzed. My Metagross switches in, gets Paralyzed, and gets paraflinched for 2-3 turn... This is fake. This happened yesterday.
Here a little tip: using blocks in the Safari zone you can catch heracross with a 99% catchrate, there are tutorials that explain how to do that. Hope it helps for the upcoming nuzlockes! I think it works with all pokemons in the Safari zone
Hey Silph! I had an idea for a challenge run that I think is really cool, and Id be absolutely thrilled if you tried it out! I call it the MagicLocke (Partially named after me, and partially named after the challenge, you'll see why) The MagicLocke is a typical Nuzlocke, but with a couple added rules. 1. You can't use a pokemon with a base Special Attack stat more than 60 in battle (Or 60 base Special in gens 1 and 2) 2. You can't use any physical move, only special moves that have 70 power or less 3. (Optional) To make things a bit easier, if you're doing this in gens 1-3, you are allowed one physical move on only one pokemon that's either Ground or Fighting. This is because you will literally have no super effective moves against Electric, Normal, or Dark type pokemon. 4. (Optional) For an extra challenge, you can force yourself to use Struggle until you have access to a special move. I think this is a really interesting challenge, especially in gens 1-3, because Normal, Poison, Flying, Bug, Rock, Ghost, and Steel type moves are completely off-limits (And Ground and Fighting, if you choose to ignore the lifeline rule). This makes the very early game especially hard, because very few pokemon have moves that aren't normal or flying type. It would mean a TON if you try this challenge, because I did my best to come up with some good rules to make it interesting. If you want to make it even more challenging, you could do it with hardcore Nuzlocke rules as a base, rather than a regular Nuzlocke.
Silph, have you ever thought about making a nuzlocke but instead of making it a mono type nuzlocke, you only use pokemon that have their total stats bellow a certain number?Like below 500 or so
I was thinking the same thing so I looked it up and it's 100 power against Slaking, but that still does the same damage as a crit from Karate Chop. Low Kick is def the smarter move here to avoid crit luck.
When setting up Guts before Brawly, I tend to just fish up a Tentacool and let it use poison sting. Saves you the trip back. Also, depending on your in game trades rules, I think Slakoth can be a valid encounter in Petalburg Woods since it can be traded for a Makuhita in Rustboro.
Street Fighter nerd here. Wouldn't Ken have been a better name for your starter? Not only does the color match better, but fire and kicking are Ken's thing as well
Thank you for the time and effort you put into these runs silph, I always love watching your videos. :) Edit: Also, hope whoever ends up reading this is well!
Silph could you please do a final segment where you decide which Pokémon was the MVP of the run? I think it would be really cool to hear your opinions and who you thought really carried the team the most, most of all i love your videos! they’ve gotten me to start nuzlocking myself, and truly making play throughs amazing for me again 🙏🏻
Fun fact: black belt Nob is actually a cameo who has made appearances in all gens leading up to Diamond and Pearl (correct me if I’m wrong) he is the person responsible for translating all the Pokémon games to English! And to show appreciation, Game Freak gave him a cameo as a black belt, though he said he wasn’t much of a martial artist and more of a hiker, I think in OR/AS or Platinum (again, correct me if I’m wrong) he was changed to a Hiker, more fitting to his actual interests.
Just a friendly reminder, double kick would have done more than peck, using combusken at least, for the mons that are only 2x weak to flying and neutral to fighting and you get fighting stab. Goes to show that just because it’s super effective doesn’t mean it’ll do the most damage out of your options. Edit: just watched a bit farther into the video and actually paid attention and realized you leveled past double kick and my comment was mostly for brawly but the calcs stay consistent anyways.
If I'm not mistaken you could've taught Ice Punch to Medicham through the Move Rememberer for an easier Drake with Calm Mind setup + Ice Punch. Idk if this is a thing done before but a nuzlock I've been doing is catching the first of each type I come across with evolutions included, so like if playing gen 1 and you get charmander you can't get anymore fire or flying types because charizard is a flying type. The hard version is the types you catch are the only ones you can get for the whole run.
