    I think Phil's point of view on gold watches assumes that people only buy watches with flipping and resale in mind. Not true. Many buy watches from the AD to wear and love, not to resale. Those days are gone

    • @andylondon1972
      @andylondon1972 13 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      And if you are buying a luxury watch, you want the luxury purchase experience. Not some due arriving with a ruck sack. Maybe when pre owned gets even cheaper but for now the AD is the way to go if you want to wear the watch (rather than flip it)

      @ericp1139 13 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Yeah, he talks about timepieces like a fish market. Not every views watches as commodities to be flipped. Unless they are other dealers or money washers, a customer will want to premium experience and authenticity assurance when buying a luxury piece.

      I bought my 126715chnr from the AD.
      I enjoyed the wait it was fun.
      Gold Rolex is new car money,
      Would folk rather buy a new car from a guy with no showroom, parked outside his house or go to the dealer.
      I know which I'd do

    A lot of people who buy full gold pieces don’t really care about the cost. However, if you go back before the pandemic, discounting full gold at the A.D. was quite common. I’m sure it is quietly happening as we speak. Those discounts won’t be steep enough to compete with used pieces on the gray market, but it’s happening now.

    What’s happened? At the turn of 2024 Phil’s watches were priced really well but for last few months his stock in most cases are about a grand more than other dealers 🤔
    I’m glad he’s doing well and hope he smashes it but being more expensive with no store front is going to be an issue.
    I personally don’t think you should take the overheads on,but pricing needs too be very competative.

      he is probably listing other dealers watches in the hopes of catching a few buyers from youtube and not holding expensive stock
      he is often nipping into trotters and could even get sale or return on some of the models they are over stocked with but they still need paying

    • @RocketDog73
      @RocketDog73 12 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Someone needs to sell Trotters stock after their Ratners style comment on their last video. They may well have cut off their own legs with that one 😂

      @@RocketDog73 Time wasters! 👀 People with money are not interested in tatty gold chains lol and used Rolex.
      Most of the clientele near the royal exchange are more likely to buy omega or Vacheron as they have no need to flaunt.

    Hi Phil. As I understand it, Rolex has its own gold mine and processes its own gold of all three colors. If my understanding is correct, then, while Rolex might care about the cost of gold, it is not bound by the cost of gold. That is, it doesn't have to raise its prices because it has to purchase gold from a third party. So it is choosing, not required by cost, to increase its prices for its gold pieces.

    "Maybe Rolex will decrease production of gold watches and increase production of the steel watches we all want." That is honestly the funniest thing I have heard today. Rolex listening to its customers? Lol!

    Went to my AD last week to buy a watch for my father he wanted a Bruce Wayne on oyster but wasn’t 100%sure so the AD showed him quite a few others including bi-metal datejust . The AD told us we could buy the datejust on the day no wait and only a short wait for the rose gold yacht master and bluesy can’t believe how times have changed . He did chose the Bruce Wayne and told us around 18 month wait hopefully we won’t wait that long the other watches a have bought have arrived sooner than he originally said fingers crossed

    You could get up to 20% off gold watches around 15 years ago from the AD

  • @colincelso9428

    As soon as the warranty card is activated Rolex knows how long that ad has had that piece before selling that watch. If gold pieces hang around they won’t allocate them to that ad. They’ll allocate them to ads who sell gold pieces quick for example to the middle east or Asia where gold is still popular.

    Well done on your success. Sticking with it and making good now. Friend of mine was offered the rose gold day date, took it and flipped it only making £400. This was just to get on the list for something he wanted.

    • @jamessmith-on3jf

      Problem is when he gets the call he won't have the daydate on his wrist and could get black listed.

    It's more likely Rolex will want us to purchase gold pieces first (which are otherwise not selling) in order to then offer the steel pieces. This would make business sense since the bulk of their profits are in gold pieces.

    I'd rather spend a few extra thousand on the gold DD at an AD to be honest. It's a brand new watch with no doubt as to its provenance, full warranty, guaranteed to not be polished to fuck, and you build the AD relationship. Another grey dealer talking his book SMH.

    • @JayJay-he9bk

      100% worth it to pay extra With an authorized dealer. It’s just piece of mine that you are getting an authentic piece what they warranty. Plus you are building a relationship an AD

    • @gaffs82

      No way. You’re AD relationships works one way. They take your money and keep stringing you along. There are so few watches you can make money on now that the loss you take on an a gold watch wont cover it.

    Back to making Steel to keep the AD's lights on !
