I love the V1S, I have three of them and have used them for a couple years now with great satisfaction. HOWEVER: Two have broken, one the flimsy hotshoe (easily replaceable, 4 screws and a $20 part). The other stopped firing entirely, suspected a faulty trigger coil. It is not a user replaceable part. Apparently MANY folks have suffered this issue. I tried replacing the flash tube just to be sure it wasn't that... no good. I'll still buy another one to replace it, but just be aware, these things do have some weaknesses. Probably good to buy a backup to have on hand in case one goes out on you during a shoot.
For some reason the Sony ver. Is having issues with the hotshoe. I am a canon use e but yea unfortunately for Sony the digital shoe is an issue. There is a newer metal shoe but not sure if it fixed or is better. In my experiences the flash tube rarely goes even with heavy use unless abused 1/1 all the time. Best of luck, still considering the cost of replace vs factory repair has gotten me Godox route and I have done my fair share of repairs with Canons in the past.
@@RickyCheung I just switched from Nikon to Canon and have the same issue as Sony users with the Hotshoe. I don't misuse my flashes. Never been dropped or bumped and still the locking mechanism breaks. It sucks when it happens on a wedding day.
Unfortunately this is an issue with all Sony users, I've dropped mine so times and it's almost off camera, but I can see why the hot shoe issue, it's a lil on the heavy side for a flash,
Mainly want to use it for event photography. 2nd shooter at weddings but looking to become a main shooter. I can't decide which I want and I'd probably bounce the flash more. I can't decide!!!
The V1 will be a great option for you and you can get the attachment kit for moth light control. Links in the description for the accessory kit. I’ve been using mine for 3 years now as my workhorse flashes for weddings/events.
Great video! I just got two of these babies today! I have three AD300Pros but was still using my Canon speedlights at my weddings. I'm taking the plunge to have a cohesive system and im ready to WOW my clients! lol. Can't wait to try it all together! Know anyone who wants to buy some used Canon speedlights? lol
Thanks. The eco system has been really great for me. Also a canon shooter, I gave up me canon speedlights 3 years ago and fully went Godox. There are no conditions I can’t create images for my clients and I’m sure you’ll feel the same soon. Enjoy!
The beauty about the godox system is no matter how big or small your light is they all talk, which is amazing so a lot of potential for growth in the future depending on your shooting needs. Thanks for your feedback and good luck on your journey.
a short info regarding the battery life. The rechargeable batteries you used are nimh accus. They running with 1.2v what means there have 0.5v less than the godox accus or normal alkaline batteries at the beginning of there life. So there the powerex never pushes the limits what the flash or device would be capable of. I would recommend EBL lithium rechargeable they have a lof of power, you can charge it with every phone charger and they dont die because of overloading or over emptieng it
Thank you for your video! How many pictures can I take with one charge with a perhaps typical setting of 1/32 or 1/16? Which settings do you use on average? You talked about about three weddings, which last hours. Don’t I need an additional battery then?
I use flash mostly at reception typically 4hrs, some for prep if needed and some fill if needed and for family as a fill/trigger for the ad200s usually. It sure the exact numbers but I’m happy for report I use them 2-3 weddings without recharge, but I usually play safe at 2 weddings without even thinking about them. No spares needed. It’s great. Hope this helps.
I appreciate your content, thanks so much. Can you suggest where I can look for an in-depth tutorial for newbies like me to learn how to use (set up), etc. the V1C? Or perhaps you can do a full tutorial. I've always shot natural light and am attempting to learn off camera flash. I just bought the V1C and the attachment kit. I have to be honest, I am intimidated with all the buttons, and features, but ready to learn the basics.
Hi Lisa, don’t over think off-camera and practice positioning. I too was afraid of off-camera light it gives us options for creativity. I will put this on my list of videos to start with the basics. Practice and never give up. Best of luck to you. Stay tune.
Since these are educational/informational videos, you might want to mention at the beginning that Flashpoint (that you portray) is the Adorama re-branded Godox (that you speak of). People that don't already know this might find your video confusing (along with repeatedly referring to it as the "Canon V1). Also, I would say that the main strength of Godox is not necessarily the innovation, but the innovation for the price. You can get plenty of round-head flash innovation from a brand like Profoto - at 4 times the cost.
I’ve never have overheat issues with my v1 or my ad200. Every flash has a limitation especially portable ones like these. Just know you cant be constantly firing off full power 1/1 flashes and you should be ok. As for weight I don’t notice the difference from canon but you coming from Sony. Best of luck!
@@RickyCheung I am in camera heaven: Mexico City. You can't name a current piece of equipment I can't get in my hands to test. If the store owner showed you a lens or a flash, and you didn't stick it on your camera and walk down the street trying it, they'd think there was something wrong with you.
FYI the battery has a 120-day warranty only (at least here in New Zealand) and at $89 a replacement is not cheap either. This fact aside the V1 is a good flash I have used it and I like the even spread of light which is far superior to my much loved TT685. FYI only one other minor gripe is the fact that it is rather bit top heavy which becomes rather noticeable when mounted on a mirrorless body.
I’ve been using for 2-3 years now and many others I know also in the wedding/event. However I’m also full manual control 100% of the time. I do remembering reading some ETTL issues, they might have been resolved with firmware.
@@RickyCheung Yeah, thanks for that. I'm about to order it as my first flash ever. I did see threads where some complained that it doesn't work with TTL + HSS mode. Can you confirm?
Again. Don’t use TTL. I have used them off camera in HSS without issues. Use the link to purchase would be awesome, not necessary. Good luck, it’s a great first flash with a lot of future expansion for you in the eco system.
I don't believe Godox as a flash for Lecia cameras directly but I do believe they are coming out with a trigger that will work on Leica cameras that can trigger Godox flashes if that makes sense.
I have three Godox AD300Pro and two Godox V1. Both models overheat pretty easy; they get very slow and have to "rest" a few minuters. Not a huge problem if you don´t shoot intensive, but I do that sometimes. The newer Godox V1Pro are presumably better in that area, but they need to work on the AD300 as well. Other than that happy with my Godox!
4years going strong with the V1s OG and never overheating issues. Some comm. issues but I explain that in a video on how to fix that but what much power and how often are you popping? I’m usually 1/16-1/8 at most on events and I can fire off a lot with no cooling issues on AD200s. Maybe AD300 have different thermal issues. Even than my V1s still workhorse with no issues of overheating. Interesting.
@@RickyCheung I use a ring flash adapter on the V1, which steals alot of light. So I usually have to shoot on 1/2 or full power. The V1Pro can do more before overheating. But it´s not a dealbreaker for me on the V1. The AD300Pro however; I mainly use them outdoors with HSS, that also creates heat. I often have to give them a minute or two to rest. But during that time I usually talk to the model, plan next shoot and so on. I really like the flashes, apart from this issue. If Godox updates the 300 I´m first in line. I also hope they update the interface, like on the AD600ProII.
Ahh yeah. Modifiers are power hungry. I see. If I’m on a softbox for that extend time I’ll usually use the doubler for the ad200 to help spread the love between 2x ad200s. lol. Would love to try a ring light one day. Cheers!
Not really just attaching the round mods are 1000% easier without adding attachment for it. As for light, there is a slight difference in look of light but I’m usually on a mod, so no difference for me. I’d say if your results are great, keep at it no need to change. The v1 are also a little bigger and take more room in the bag.
I bought a v1 around a year ago, and found that it occasionally sputtered andd flickered light spontaneously. After a little while, it stopped firing; i took it in for repair and they replaced the controller board. Now it started sputtering again....
I've had the same "issue", it does it at times, I think it has something to do with the trigger, I could be wrong. It happens when my camera is hanging, weird.,
I've had one for about a month...my camera was in the vertical position pointing down and the crappy plastic flash bracket broke. Fortunately it didn't damage my Sony camera. I guess it's only useful in the horizontal position.
I’m sorry to hear that I’d recommended reaching out to Godox. I use my flashes all night at weddings with no issue. Bumping into guess, chairs in tight quarters no issue with the shoe breaking off.
I personally don’t use magmod but I have seen the magmod mount on just about any flash head even much bigger heads, non speedlights but not on the v1 because it’s round. Sorry I can’t help much more on that one.
Hi, nice video, was surprised you had to combine 2 AD200s for your product shoot! Just wondering what kind of workflow required you to have so much wattage since the shots showed you were working with still objects at close range.
Sorry I failed to add, why not cheap continuous lighting with a slow shutter? Anyway, I'm not saying there's anything wrong with having a ton of flash power because why not, and it makes many different photographic situations possible. I was just a little baffled with the still studio shots as an example as to why you felt forced to upgrade because in my mind, I would just use continuous lighting with a long shutter if my flash power weren't enough in this kind of setup. But now that I think more about it, you can certainly achieve different results with flash vs continuous lighting depending on your light placement, getting different mixes of studio and ambient light. And certainly easier to control your less (or ambiently) lit areas when using flash. So all good, sorry for the long winded comment 😅
I just found your channel and noticed your V1 is the one sold by Adorama under their in-house brand name. I have the Godox branded version and I bought the Accessory kit you referred to as well. I highly recommend the accessory kit because for the small amount of extra $, one gets a really well thought-out and configured kit. I also have the Godox V860II and several of the Godox triggers that allow me to utilize non-Godox flashes with my Nikon flashes in a mult-light set-up. Great review and I just subscribed.
Great video. Does your v1 colour cast issues bother you? My ad100 has it and I had to gel it to semi fix it. A few yt and websites mention that the ad100 and the v1 have colour cast issues. Wanted to hear your opinion on this topic
I don’t have noticeable color cast issues that bother me. I’m also not as selective when it comes to color when it comes to weddings, as long as my dress is pretty accurate. I could see it being an issues with product or e-commerce. For that I use my AD600Pro with color function.
@@philamar hmm.. if they are recent purchases maybe they did away with the case. Sorry to see if go. Maybe it’s up for grabs at your local camera shop.
There is a new version of v860 out now. It has wider coverage (14mm vs 28mm) without any attachments that fly off and it comes with the same battery and amount of shots. Plus it has other functions.
Yea the v860III looks interesting but nothing the v1 doesn’t have to be honest. At least for me bounced, offset light has not need to for wider coverage, I never shoot direct flash and the light pattern on round head is noticeable for detailed work. I do miss the built in bounce cards though for (in-a-pinch situations).
@@RickyCheung If I shoot up close which is all the time I use 14mm pull out cover and that gives me softer light plus less dark corners so I don't have to correct for that later like I do with V1.
Yeah, personally I don't get the hype about the V1. It's main selling point is the round head and it's nice light fall off, but that only shows when you shoot someone against a wall. For which you use a bigger light with a modifier anyway... I'm not a fan of magnetic clip on modifiers. A speedlight is a small pinpoint light, there is little room to play with add ons. Also, I never shoot my flash straight out in front, when on my camera. I always bounce. Which doesn't require any "smooth light fall off", but does require a greater zoom range. Which the V860III offers.
@@caleidoo How do you bounce if the ceiling is tall? All rectangular heads have 14mm spreader build in but V1 doesn't so you have to use some kind of magnetic modifier. I don't like them either but have no choice.
Can you tell me why it is so cheap? I got one yesterday and the component packaging looked worse than action figure packaging. None of the components were wrapped like my other flash heads when they came. I feel uncomfortable keeping it.
Cost saving has to come from somewhere. It’s economics 101, packaging, manuals, etc. as a flash unit, it works and function. Sure not the smoothest rotation on head, buttons aren’t sealed from elements, cost has to come from somewhere.
@@RickyCheung cost saving yes. But, better to buy nice or buy it again. I’ve been down the cheap route and it’s never sustainable. Glad yours has lasted though
To each their own, take your pick and what works for you. I’ve been using them professionally for 3 years heavy uses as event/wedding photographer. No issues so, for me it’s a tool as it should be.
Cheap and inexpensive are two different descriptors. Canon flashes are for sure overpriced - and until companies like Godox bring to market the same level of quality at a fair price, they will continue. Years ago I saw that with contact lenses - hundreds, when the cost to bring them to market, was only a few dollars. Now with hearing aids, we see the same rip-offs. I needed VA to help as Kaisers' cheapest models were over $2000/ear. Suggest you continue to view videos as I am doing. Lush wrappings can be a real fooler. I'm moving from an 80D with a Canon 580EX to my new R5.
@@bobbuchanan6912 I think watching videos gets us to the wrong conclusions most of the time (and to the right ones on occasion) as with a lot of work online, content producers need to find new things to talk about to be ‘different’. There are lots of products out there with a propensity to oversell what they’re offering. The v1 wobbles on my camera. I’d rather not risk damaging my hot shoe and/or the flash. It may be a tool, but money shouldn’t be thrown around. All cameras do the same thing effectively, but some products are different. Like flash. I did try the Profoto a10, and that’s a good flash. The colour temp is good, it’s softer and less harsh and is robustly built. I’ve had so much gear over the years as a photojournalist and can now tell when I’m not comfortable sticking with something. That happened with the v1. I’ve bought cheap flashes before and it’s never worked out. Rick is right, it is a tool. But, do I want to be stuck in the middle of no where with a broken flash and terrible Godox service? Your Canon 580 may be over priced, but with that you’ll get service, a reconcilable warranty, easily replaceable parts, access to stellar professional CPS membership if you have 2 bodies or more and 3 Canon lenses. Godox, have a notoriously awful service.
Hi Ricky, I too am a newbie and would like to know, do you use the flash at night, on cloudy days, indoors, or when the settings are not enough to achieve the shot you want? For example, do you have to use a flash at night or can you just open the aperture/shutter speed to a lower number? Thank you Great video!
Not the Creator, but maybe I can help! You can and use flash in any of the situations you described. If you are shooting with an on camera flash, then you will probably have the best luck doing this indoors pointing at a ceiling or wall. If there is no wall or ceiling close by, then you can attach a velcro bounce modifier - there is a brand called Rogue that makes them, for example - so you are not shooting *directly* at the subject unless you want the hard light, Polaroid look (and probably some red eyes). In other situations, particularly at night or on cloudy days when you can't get the exposure you want, you can use flash off-camera to light your subjects nicely. This will require you to have some sort of trigger on your camera to communicate with the flash. For this particular flash, something like the Godox xPro series ought to work. You will also need a light stand and probably a soft box of some sort to diffuse the light so it's a nice softer light. It's a matter of personal taste, but I think most people would agree that having the light come from another angle than directly pointed at the subject from the camera is more pleasing. That is why we tend to bounce the flash off of ceilings and walls - it's not direct light, it's indirect and being scattered all over the ceiling and back down to the subject. If you are shooting landscapes or objects that are massive / far away and it's too dark to shoot handheld, then your best bet will be a tripod because these subjects will, in almost all instances, not benefit from using a flash. Put your camera on the tripod, find your exposure, set a timer for the shutter so you don't have camera shake at very long exposures, and then let your camera keep the shutter open as long as it needs. The tradeoff that you can make to be able to shoot handheld is by raising your ISO and lowering your f-number (Aperture) in order to keep a fast enough shutter speed. The biggest problem with this is that your image has a smaller depth of field by opening the Aperture (which is not always desirable), and raising your ISO starts to introduce more and more grain. Even on the nicest cameras, the grain starts to become noticeable after 3200-6400 ISO. On some cameras, especially DSLRs, the grain can start becoming noticeable at as little as 800 ISO. You may be able to adjust both in order to get the shot. 1/100 SS is a comfortable handheld shutter speed for me personally, so you could start there and then start opening Aperture and raising ISO incrementally until you get the shot you are looking for. The easiest way for a beginner to do this is to set your camera to Shutter Priority (S on most camera dials, Canon might be different, I don't use that brand), set your Shutter Speed to 1/100, and then set your ISO to Auto. In the settings on many cameras, you can change the range of your Auto ISO. It's hard to say what's best since I don't know your camera, but 2000 is probably safe for a passable photo. The camera will automatically adjust your Aperture and ISO settings so they will expose properly for the Shutter Speed you set. I know this was wordy, but hopefully it helps at least a little. Happy shooting!
Flashpoint is the same rebrand under Adorama as Godox. Depending on where you live for warranty purposes you might go with one over the other. But yes same flash and they will talk to each other.
Not sure I’m understanding, you just mount it to the hotshoe and if you are referring connection you can do that directly. You’ll need a trigger and the v1 flashes.
So with the V1, if that’s on top of my camera, can I shoot with that and the ad600 at the same time? Like will the v1 trigger the ad600? I just ordered a beauty dish for my Neewer 4 but I’m thinking gif upgrading that to the godox has one but I also need an on camera flash for tighter/faster situations but would love to use both if possible
yes the V1 will trigger your ad600 or any godox light which is the beauty of getting into a system like this. You can grow your lighting kit one light at a time
I would problem recommend going a strobe kit. You won’t have enough power with a portable flash like the v1 and it will probaby overheat if used in this situation, depending on how busy this booth would be.
Convinced, bought V1s, and fit tested it and broke right at the hot shoe mount. Didn't even get to use it for work. This is a known issue of Godox V1s and replacements will still do the same thing.
Nic, so sorry to hear that. So I'm a canon shooter and I did notice some folks with the Sony having some hotshoe issues. I hope to get Godox's attention so they can hear me out to help out the community as must as I can to make better products for us end-users. I would contact Godox ASAP in your shoes but I can assure you the unit itself is a workhorse flash. I'm actually curious, find me on twitter with a photo maybe I can try to reach out to them, again I have no affiliation with Godox.
@@RickyCheung sorry if i sounded mean. I just commented for Sony users to be aware. Sadly, i'm unsure wether it's true but apparently sony sends the pre-made hot shoe mounts to "3rd parties" hence 3rd parties don't really design the hot shoe so can't blame them i guess? Regardless, amazing video hopefully it reaches more people!
As photographer we invest in great cameras and killer glass then we buy cheap flashes. I had a flashpoint flash lock up on me for a championship photo Sold that crap and bought two profoto lights and I have never looked back
I own (2) AD400 Pro's, (1) AD100 Pro, (2) TT685's, (1) TT600 and last, but not least, (1) AD200 Pro. I would like to start doing events, so my question is this: with the AD200 Pro, I also own the H200R Round Flash Head and the Godox EC200 Extension cable. Is that a good idea to take on events or is it a bit too wonky-lol? My reasoning is that by never having done events, I don't know how much power I would need in certain situations, like low light. Also, by having the extension cable it would lighten the load of carrying the camera and give me the flexibility of a flash head to bounce flash. Would you recommend a V1 over the AD200 kit? I would like a V1, but just wondering if it's necessary in my case. Thanks in advance and for posting your videos!
Darryl, if you are shooting though mods (umbrellas, etc) I'd recommend the AD200s, I don't see myself needing beyond that like the AD400s. As for the mounting and ext. I don't use an ext for them. I just use the Godox Bowens mount brackets S2 I think they call them. I like them because they can also mount the V1s it needed, they have like a little pad that pops out. Hope this helps.
@@RickyCheung Thank you for the quick reply. The last part of my question was whether you would recommend my AD200 Pro accessory kit to start doing events or should I purchase the V1. Thanks again!
@@darrylcaldwell2617 I would say start off with what you have. You can use the round head H200R which is nice. I have another vid on the Rogue Accessories would I think are incredible when pair with the round heads on the Godox. Much better and stronger compared to Godox's own accessory kit.
Not too sure. The magmod was originally used for rectangular flash heads. With that said I have seen some folks use it with the v1 and the ad200 from Godox.
Unless its the sony version and in that case it will only break. The hot shoe is not strong enough to carry its own weight and it will just snap off. I have to have the backup spare part on me at all times if im going to use it on camera. Its just ridiculous that they would design it so terribly for sony.
@@marcgosselin4780 sorry today you might have gotten older stock. Definitely pick one up from Adorama or BH Phot. They would have a more current one in inventory. Sorry to hear that
I'm already invested into Nikon CLS so can I integrate Godox to share anything or create a new i-TTL wireless system? I wanna share between multi size portable macro & sports events press work.
like most you’ll be locked into their own wireless system. But it would work with line of sight flash sync but that’s unreliable at best. Wescott JF has a universal system but I’m not sure how it works, I never played with.
Great vid man. I’m looking to get my first flash. I’m a street photographer using the R5. What would you suggest as a good compact flash for street on the R5? Thanks.
Thanks. As a street photographer I would probably shoot natural light mostly but if I needed to, you’ll probably be using it as a bit of fill depending on your style/subject so you can actually go with a much smaller portable flash/speedlite to keep your kit as light as possible. A Godox 300 series or a canon 400 series would be go enough I would imagine.
Street do not need Flash. You just need fast lens..something with f1.8 or less like f1.4, f1.2... Using flash in street photo will make people frustrated. So avoid it. Unless you are shooting specific subject(Client) , please do not point your flash on anyone in the street...
@@lefantome2568 Sorry but I have to disagree. Flash can produce some really interesting shots. There are no rules my friend, you have to experiment and find your style. Good luck to you.
Just imagine you passing the street, minding your OB and some dude show up in front of your and you get light on your face? How will you react about it? I am not arguing that flash is not good. I said if you know the subject and he/she is already expecting to receive flash on his/her face, it is totally fine. But as street photography using Human as subject, it is not polite to be flashing people that we dont know...again, this is my own opinions. Not a statement asking you what you have to do. Sorry to hear that John. I never ran into that issue, I hope you were able to trouble shoot. Maybe in camera settings with flash on. Not really sure. It is a N version of the V1 they are different for Sony, Canon, Nikon
Not to sound offensive but you might have hearing damage. Sounds like you have trouble hearing lower registers. His voice is pitched way lower than the intro music. I don't find the volume/amplitude changed that much so maybe your hearing sensitivity dropped in the lower registers, which is an early sign of hearing damage. Please get it checked it out.
@@zomberton616 I just listened to it again and it sounds fine. The intro did sound just a tad bit louder than the voice though. I believe when I was watching this I was only using one speaker. Things can sound different or off in mono. Sounds fine now.
For weddings and events I have never had an overheating issues and I believes those that do or overworking the v1 at 1/1 power constantly. If you need that much power quickly and consistently get an ad200.
Godox is a no compre to Profoto - it is of course no secret that Profoto are suing them for pending patent infringements - having seen the GOdox system up close I can count 5 systems which are better - however hands down Godox offer the best value for money
Definitely consider. They are getting way better on build compared to when they first started. Just like all the others they might eventually have a lower/high tier set of equipment.
v1 is a great FLASH. but at least on sony, the hotshoe is the most fragile piece of shit ever. Knock a camera past a door, "CraCK" broken mount. Sit on a sofa and get up and flash rugs on handrest "CrACk" broken hotshoe mount. i broken 4 in 1 year, having had many other flashes before for 10 years and not having broken a single one before ( including other godox's )
Best? Compared to? I get the clickbait titles but it’s false. Maybe the best budget flash would be a good title. For someone who shoots Sony (a1, a7rii, a7) for digital and Leica (for 35mm)and Rollieflex for medium format. I have purchased Godox and actually have the V1s as well as 3 other models. They’re nice inexpensive and fairly reliable lights. However, the Sony HVL F60RM2 is the best speedlight I’ve used. I like Profoto gear but even they can’t out perform Sony’s latest lights. When you add the fact that you can control everything about the light from your Camera’s menu is now a game changer. I get the price factor will drive some away but the performance is without a doubt the best I have ever used.
This information is useful, but I spent so much time listening to you either ramble or fill the air with filler comments. I’m not saying this is insult you, I’m saying this in hopes that it will help. I think if you condense your videos into a more streamlined experience, people would be more likely to click - and stay for the video. Your lighting and audio look incredible, by the way.
Man, at a time where most TH-camrs take around 20 to 25 minutes to tell you something that would rarely need more than 5 minutes just to « please the algorithm », complaining about the duration of an 8 minutes video seems harsh… Maybe you copy and paste your comment under almost every video you watch! 😅
Are we not passed the point yet still?? I don’t think TH-camrs need to reiterate the whole concept of hitting like, hitting alarms, and smashing the subscribe button as original as that is… leaving comments even. Just shoot your vid and be done . We know how to do this . TH-cam is like 15 years mainstream now.

I'm in! I've been looking at this system and now I'm sure I want to grab some of these. Probably start with the V1 and the ad200.
My workhorse 2x V1 and 2x ad200.
Enjoy!
using a V1 along with an AD200. kind of new to flash photography, looking forward to using these for some upcoming projects.
Thank you for explaining the growth potential as well. It gets overwhelming thinking if I buy this, then when I grow, then what?
The beauty about the godox system is no matter how big or small your light is they all talk, which is amazing so a lot of potential for growth in the future depending on your shooting needs. Thanks for your feedback and good luck on your journey.
a short info regarding the battery life. The rechargeable batteries you used are nimh accus. They running with 1.2v what means there have 0.5v less than the godox accus or normal alkaline batteries at the beginning of there life. So there the powerex never pushes the limits what the flash or device would be capable of. I would recommend EBL lithium rechargeable they have a lof of power, you can charge it with every phone charger and they dont die because of overloading or over emptieng it
Love your laid-back style of review. New subscriber...Keep up the good work.
Thanks Chris that means a lot.

Good point.
Just bought one. It's remarkably heavy. I'm hoping I don't have the overheating problem I had with my Sony HVL F43M flash.

Thanks for sharing, love the editing and intro, great points I totally agree, V1 is a beast.
Thank you!!! Hope you are enjoying the V1, such a great flash and you can grow from it easily.
Can you confirm that the V1-C is compatible with a Canon EOS R6?
Ricky, great review..... do you know if the V1 is compatible for use with a Leica SL2?
I don't believe Godox as a flash for Lecia cameras directly but I do believe they are coming out with a trigger that will work on Leica cameras that can trigger Godox flashes if that makes sense.
Yes it does. Thank you Ricky.
And I was thinking that perhaps it would but only in manual mode and not TTL.
Hmm. I looked into it, they do have TTL support. Search for “Godox XProL II TTL” it’s a new trigger by Godox.
Cheers!
@@RickyCheung I usally use the Elinchrom Eco ringflash, but for travel a Puluz ringflash for speedlights works well.
How does this work with Sony A9 and A1? Do I need adapter for it to work on Sony?
I’ve used them on a Sony A73 with no issues but I’m not sure about the A9/A1. If it’s the same shoe, I don’t see why not.
Great video! Was just wondering whats the blie case you use for the AD600 pro
It came with it. I have the flashpoint/Adorama one.

Thanks for the video. I have 2 v860iis. Are there any advantages to the V1 over these flashes? I’m getting great results with the v860iis.
Sorry to hear. I never had issues, 2 years, a lot of wedding and events. Maybe a bad batch.
I've had the same "issue", it does it at times, I think it has something to do with the trigger, I could be wrong. It happens when my camera is hanging, weird.,
Great audio, what mic are you using? where is it mounted?
MKE600, links in description on my setup
I've had one for about a month...my camera was in the vertical position pointing down and the crappy plastic flash bracket broke. Fortunately it didn't damage my Sony camera. I guess it's only useful in the horizontal position.
I’m sorry to hear that I’d recommended reaching out to Godox. I use my flashes all night at weddings with no issue. Bumping into guess, chairs in tight quarters no issue with the shoe breaking off.
I’m looking at this flash for my SonyA7RIII! I have a magmod so I wanna makes sure it’s compatible. Thanks for the great video 🥰
I personally don’t use magmod but I have seen the magmod mount on just about any flash head even much bigger heads, non speedlights but not on the v1 because it’s round. Sorry I can’t help much more on that one.

Hi great video. Now do I need to buy a xpro trigger with the V1 to trigger the ad200 pro or is the V1 an adequate trigger? Thanks so much
The v1 as a flash will also trigger the ad200 so I you don’t “NEED” a trigger but it’s nice for its size if I’m studio shooting a lot. They al talk.

Hi, nice video, was surprised you had to combine 2 AD200s for your product shoot! Just wondering what kind of workflow required you to have so much wattage since the shots showed you were working with still objects at close range.
F13. That was the reason.
@@gilaxia but what was preventing you from using a slow shutter since you were working with still objects?
Shutter speed is irrelevant when using only flash lights. Doesn’t affect the exposure.
Thanks
For that I use my AD600Pro with color function.

agree
Always keep the kit with bounce card attachment handy for those situations.
Awesome, thanks man! Really helpful
Thanks. I’m glad it’s helpful.
I appreciate all the information and help. Thanks@@_michaelglass
the flash you show says flashpoint on its front. Is it the same one as the ones that dont have that name in the flash?

Do you have a tutorial video showing how to connect the Godox v1 light to canon?
I have a Canon R6
Not sure I’m understanding, you just mount it to the hotshoe and if you are referring connection you can do that directly. You’ll need a trigger and the v1 flashes.
for the wight and size its not very powerful though
So with the V1, if that’s on top of my camera, can I shoot with that and the ad600 at the same time? Like will the v1 trigger the ad600? Godox V1
Hi i was wondering can these be powered by usb instead of the battery l was thinkibg about using them in a Photobooth application
The V1 is a speedlite/flash it won’t help you in video. Maybe the built in led but barely.

@@RickyCheung ok
I just found one at an amazon resaller for 7$ !!!!!!! I'm shook my main flash is a neewer vision 5 for Nikon I have this V1 for Fujifilm and I shoot using a Sony I wirelessly trigger them all I never thought I'd be able to afford godox I'm still mind blown
Yea it’s pretty awesome they can talk to each other. Sweet!
The accessories on the V1 c, which are magnetically attached, fall countless times and this drives me to despair...
I use these now th-cam.com/video/96A9u4ZKKN4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=To4HygrrcYMKcs_z
I just set up my Godox V1 and Magmod on my Nikon D750 and my camera will NOT focus. I have my first wedding this weekend, so I’m freaking out. Please help 😩
Sorry to hear that John. I never ran into that issue, I hope you were able to trouble shoot. Maybe in camera settings with flash on. Not really sure. It is a N version of the V1 they are different for Sony, Canon, Nikon
I want one for my lumix s5 mark ii, which one do I buy ?
You would be looking for the “O” model amzn.to/47mo9GX for both Olympus and Panasonic
Just updated the description for Olympus/Panasonic
The intro and sound effects are way too loud and your voice isn't loud enough.
I didn't have any problems with his voice.
Although 27 people did like my comment so it wasn't just me. The intro is a little louder than the voice. But doesn't sound as bad as I remember.
Brutal😂
Why is it called flashpoint if it's godox?
Flashpoint is Adorama’s rebranded Godox flash. Same units, same flash. I’m in the US east coast and Adorama is right near me.
@@RickyCheung ah right thanks! I was wondering just now lol.
No problem. As long as you get the trigger/flash for your system C-Canon, N-Nikon, and S-Sony, you’ll be good. They all talk.
How does this one compare with the Godox V860iii?
About the same except for the ability to mount mods. Grids, barn doors, and different style diffusers. It is also a little bigger in the camera bag.
Light pattern is a little bit noticeable but barely because of the round head but that’s all I see.
We miss you here....
Do they over heat?
For weddings and events I have never had an overheating issues and I believes those that do or overworking the v1 at 1/1 power constantly. If you need that much power quickly and consistently get an ad200.
Godox is a no compre to Profoto - it is of course no secret that Profoto are suing them for pending patent infringements - having seen the GOdox system up close I can count 5 systems which are better - however hands down Godox offer the best value for money
Profoto is the best in the industry but they also have their issues as well. But light for the money, Godox is ahead, even if they break. Lol.
@@RickyCheung I stand corrected - I have just seen their range of Parabolic - gosh so cheap and they look fairly robust - I may switch - seriously
Definitely consider. They are getting way better on build compared to when they first started. Just like all the others they might eventually have a lower/high tier set of equipment.
Am I missing something? He keeps saying “CANON”!
Does it work with evf?
No flashes I know of work with the EVF as far as simulation exposure if that's what you mean.
Is this too much flash for a Sony a6400?
Depends on what you are shooting?
@@RickyCheung real estate at times and just for fun to have a descent flash
If that’s the case you can certainly go for it. Bouncing the flash up will give you good source of fill or if you do flambient it’ll work. Good luck.
Fix the audio, too low
I like your video, but Westcott lights are better, but more expensive.
th-cam.com/video/0a39VNH0dlo/w-d-xo.html - For anyone who has the V1 stuck on camera, this is how I removed my V1
Interesting Donald. I have never had my flash stuck on my camera. Great vid.
Why That noisy intro?
Otherwise great review.
Audio on the intro peaked. Sorry for that experience.
Super nice video but fell or the chair and walked to the otolaryngologist after that explosion
Sound effects too loud voice too quiet
wel i have a V1 but never use it
, as i also have a 2x godox v860-III that are better on every aspect than the V1.
v1 is a great FLASH. but at least on sony, the hotshoe is the most fragile piece of shit ever.
I’m sorry to hear that. Yea, I heard a few cases with the Sony digital hotshot connection :(
The hot shoe keeps breaking on me! Does anyone else have this problem? Love this flash so much but it breaks every time when I’m at a wedding! 😭
Is the hotshoe on the camera breaking or the flash hotshoe?
The flash hot shoe. One of my flashes is perfectly fine but the other one has broken 4 times already 🥲
Are you using Sony? Because a lot of Sony users are reporting this but most if not all my fellow wedding photogs are Canon shooters.
It does not work properly with sony a7siii camera
Ayman, please do share. I’m a canon user so it would be great for Sony users to know what’s missing in features with the V1.
@@RickyCheung In auto mode it does not pre fire the flash
Have you tired all firmwares up to date? Sounds like a firmware fix, I have no affiliation with Godox but I hope they would fix that for Sony.
@@RickyCheung yes it has up to date firmware. I talked to Godox but no support
1:06: "CANON V1"... 😆
That transition audio is way too high compared to your voiceover. Literally painful 👂🏼
I really appreciate the feedback. Trying to get better by the day.
V860ii is
The same no difference except the round head
color is not accurate enough, otherwise good
I’m not sure if any speedlite has 100% color accuracy unless a larger strobe.
Nah I agree not much substance or teaching of the product besides "it just makes sense"
Yikes why the negativity. You’re not gonna be the one to change the habit bro keep stepping
You talk to low my guy
Sounds like a piece junk for Sony owners.
It seems that way unfortunately for Sony Godox versions.
Wireless Triggering was introduced by Metz please correct yourself.
MOUNT BROKE ON DAY 2!!! Like SO MANY OTHERS HAVE. Sony version. As this is NOT a new or unknown issue, WTF Godox??? POS mount!!! How can they sell this utterly infamous garbage??? Where's the corporate pride or professionalism??? I'll be returning this severe disappointment.
