Fantastic video!! I'm very much a visual person, so seeing everything laid out and explained in depth REALLY helped me understand this light - thank you!
Great tutorial. I am an amateur and not using these devices daily, so it is nice to be able to have a quick refresher if it has been a while since using them.
I have the Neewer Z1, pretty much the same flash as the V1 just different naming and this video SERIOUSLY helped me understand the my speedlight. You sir, are an amazing man.
Thank you. Clear information! I know it's a great flash but Ive had a lot of trouble adjusting to it from my other system, so this is extremely helpful.
In your video “Godox V1 TTL Speedlite - Complete Walkthrough” at timestamp 7:53 when turning on the flash, the menu is showing “TCM - SYNC - FEB” In the video “Godox XPro II (2024) Radio Controller Complete Walkthrough” at timestamp 17:56 when turning on the flash the menu is showing only “TCM” How do I access the “SYNC - FEB” options in the menu? I have tried several times without any success. Thanks in advance.
Your video is so awesome and helped me understand the flash. But in ETTL - A mode, I am not seeing it syncing the focus length and exposure with the lens. What am I doing wrong?
Hi Brett, The label for the receiver mode was changed to "Rx" in a firmware update after we published this video. All of the functions are still the same.
My question is where is the optical slave master setting?? In the v860 ii there use to be a lightning symbol indicating that it's a optical slave master ... If this has radio slave only then y does it have N optical reviver ? .. if it has optical slave control then where is it ?? Y is it not as easy to find just like the v860ii . ??? Major question is y is the master even firing ah flash in the first place ??? The receiver is not using optical slave when it's in radio mode. So y not just send the signal ?? Y is it firing and wasting my battery ?? ..
The optical master mode available on the V860ii is not available on the V1. Godox seems to be abandoning support for that feature, as it is not on the V860iii either. When in the radio master mode, you can change the mode on your master group to off (indicated by the double lines). If your master group is off, it will not flash, and it is still able to send the signal to any enabled groups. Two possible areas of confusion: 1. On the Canon version of the V1, your master does not get its own separate group indicated by M. Your master is always assigned to group A. So if you want to control the master independently, make sure none of your off-camera flashes are assigned to group A. 2. Even with the master set to off, the test button on the flash will give you a low power flash. The master will not flash when you trigger it through the hotshoe. I hope this information helps!
Beats my ProFoto A1! Really impressed with the V1's battery design, modeling light, strong magnetic attachment for modifiers, nice clean and functional design and quality build. Thanks!
Great video, but I cannot for the life of me get my Sony A7iii to work with it as a bracketed set up - I can't seem to get it on ETTR,... any suggestions? google has failed me!
simple question: how do you keep the menu light on? It keeps turning off and when we get to the wireless controls, turning it on activates the D channel
Hi, I am new to flash photography and just bought the V1. I don't have the Flash Exposure Bracketing option on my LCD. I am using the V1 on a Sony A6700. Is FEB not an option for this camera? Thanks in advance!
thank you for the info but I might be missing something, I have the the nikon version, when I switch mine on and in i-ttl mode there is no sync button, this only appears when I go to M (manual mode) how do I get it for I-ttl mode?? thanks
Great concise video. I'm not quite sure of the modelling lamp's purpose. Can it be used as a light source without the flash triggering? Love to see it in action. Newby to flash!
Excellent video - very helpful and comprehensive. I have just purchased a Nikon Z 8, with no mechanical shutter. Do you know if HSS and Z8 is working properly with Godox Speedlite V1 for Nikon?
We haven't independently confirmed it yet, but the Z8 should be fully compatible with the V1's latest firmware. Strobepro has sold hundreds of V1N flashes, and I haven't heard any specific complaints about the Z8. We hope that no news is good news!
Have a somewhat dumb question, but don’t think it was covered in the vid. When using Wireless mode, it seems to not work when the camera is set to Auto. Even when I turn wireless on, when I hit the shutter it goes back to regular ETTL. Is this expected behavior, or am I doing something wrong or have a faulty flash?
Can you use HSS with the V1 off camera? Whenever I go into the "orange" mode if I activate HSS on my trigger it doesn't register in the "orange" mode on the V1.
Hello, I just purchased the Sony version and have it paired with my a7iii. I noticed the auto zoom isn’t working as did yours in the video. Manual zoom is working ok. Any suggestions or answers as to why? Thanks!
I think I’m completely out of my element here, because I just set up my Godox V1 and Magmod on my Nikon D750, and cannot for the life of me figure out how to get my camera to focus. I am shooting my first wedding this weekend, so I’m freaking out. Any help would be greatly appreciated 😬
Thank you this was a great video!! I wonder if you could answer I have the canon r3 and with the new hot shoe, will this be ok using this flash not worried about the waterproof. Canon does have a adapter some say you need it and some saw you don't!!!!! Hope you can answer Thank you this is the best video on TH-cam for this flash.
Hi Debbie, We don't have much hands on experience with Canon's new accessory shoe, but I know there can be some pin alignment issues that will cause your camera to give you an error code. Carefully aligning the pins is less of an issue with a flash trigger like the XPro or X2T. A V1 flash could be more prone to sliding. For that reason, you might want to invest in the adapter even though it adds a bit of height to the setup.
Thank you a lot for getting back to me I just got the little adapter it is very small so that is good going to be trying OCF today I hope it goes good again thank you
Hi Great tutorial, At the same time I have a problem that the flash fails to work together with the camera And unfortunately it is not clear to me what the problem is
Hi Melanie, As long as you have the 2.4GHz version of the XT16 then it will work. You'll just need to look in the manual for the DIP switch diagram in order to set a channel. To put it on channel 1, set all switches to the down position. Once you've set your channel, move the selector to the group you assigned your V1 to, and you'll be able to control it in manual mode.
Hello and thank you for this video :) I've got a quick question, is it possible to automatic turn on the modeling lamp whenf focusing to have a focus on a dark place ? and then it turn off ?
How durable is the circuitry ? Every other Chinese made speedlite I've had crapped out after about a year or two. you'd notice after a while that you'd only be getting 1/2 or 1/4 power .
Well, we sell the stuff, so you might take this as somewhat biased! But we try our best to be candid. We've carried an assortment of other flash brands throughout our history, and Godox is the brand that has made things easiest on our service department. Not saying nothing ever goes wrong, but we're very happy with Godox's flash lineup overall. Happy enough to back it up with our 2-year in-house warranty. Even beyond that 2-year period, we can almost always replace components quickly and affordably. Flashes that seem to lose horsepower can sometimes benefit from a new flash tube-or-if any fogging is visible, a new front lens. Fogging hasn't been an issue we've noticed with Godox flashes. They seem to have good heat management and well assigned limits. I hope this helps! If you have any other questions, feel free to reach out any time.
Any fast-charging cable should work with the supplied charger. Note that it is not possible to charge the battery through the V1 itself. The USB-C slot on the flash body is for firmware updates only.
Thanks for the thorough video! I purchased the Flashpoint equivalent of this, hoping the V1 would talk to my Flashpoint R2 TTL speedlight, but so far I have not been successful. Is that not possible or is that user error? I have checked to make sure both units are on the same channel and I believe I had them in the proper master/slave relationship.
Hi Elisa, Depending on when you bought that R2 speedlite, it could potentially need a firmware update. V1 and V860ii flashes are definitely compatible.
There are some minor differences between V1 models depending on the supported camera brand. We weren't confident that we had discovered all such minor differences, so we decided to pick just one model for our tutorial. The main difference you'll encounter on the Nikon model is that the "sync" functions can only be managed through the camera and not the flash. Make sure to enable your fastest Auto-FP setting (Menu E: Flash and Bracketing) if you want to use HSS. If you have any questions about the Nikon model, feel free to drop them here!

Thank you for the tutorial! I wish manufacturers could start making quality videos like this instead of us reading confusing manuals.
Amen! The manuals are written by ENGINEERS for ENGINEERS and not for the average consumer who purchased the product.
100% agree.
Holy cow. This video was EXACTLY what I was looking for. Really, really well done. Thank you very much.
Best Godox V1 tutorial hands down!!!
Most comprehensive explanation of V1 i’ve seen on TH-cam ! Excellent!

At 16:38 there is small arrow over the flash icon on the left. What is it mean?
Hi Jan,
This arrow will show up in Multi or TTL to indicate that the flash head is pointing upwards. Silly, we know.
on my menu v 1.6 using canon, I have (..beep, light, lcd, feb acl) TX instead of master
Master mode is the same as TX mode. You shouldn't be in this mode on the flash unless you're using it to control another flash.

Strange, mine doesn't have FEB (Panasonic) 🤔 There seems to be differences between models.
Yes, there are small differences in available features. Unfortunately, FEB is not supported on the Olympus/Panasonic model.
