The Panther tanks of the II./SS-Panzer Regiment 5 were defending the area of Maciejow when the 11th Tank corps attacked with 2 brigades. At the end of the battle, the Panthers of the SS Wiking division claimed to have knocked out 103 Soviet tanks for the loss of 0 Panthers in return. Find out more about the battle in this video!

      @@jasonmussett2129 for instance, his video on Jagdtigers in the Ardennes in wrong; no Jagdtigers made it to the Ardennes due to fuel and road situation. The combat he described involved either Jagdpanthers of PzJager IVs. The unit histories that actually describe these units and prove it wrong are expensive and rare... no research was done, it is a common myth which Felton propagates. Making historical videos in time-consuming and expensive, both in time and money.

    A VERY good documentary I must say. I knew that the 5th SS Wiking Panzer Division were one of the very best fighting units on either side during WW-II and this documentary proved that even during the long retreat from the Eastern Front, Wiking fought superbly. My compliments.

    Lend lease Shermans were a common sight around Kovel.............in newsreel footage they were in the streets of the town, destroyed. The Americans supplied 4000 specially modified, diesel powered Shermans to the soviets, and soviet commanders had favorable experiences with them. The US also supplied 100,000 6x6 Army trucks (with trailers and fully loaded with war materials) which basically mobilized a large part of the Red Army. US lend lease was vast, and enormous in scope of technology,materials,vehicles and even entire specialty factories.

    My great uncle was a gunner on a panther during this fight. He was seriously wounded and sent back to Germany. The rest of his crew died, except for the loader who somehow pulled him from the tank. I think infantry actually helped. At that time, he had 13 kills as a gunner.

    Let us pray that we never have to go through something like WW2.
    My dad was on the eastern front and the few things he told me about that time were bad enough. But he never talked about the really terrible things. Those things haunted him in his dreams and I'll never forget how he screamed at night once his memories came back. Thirty years haven't been enough to process the experience and ultimately he became an alcoholic when he tried to wipe out the memories in this way. When finally I fully realized what he must have been through, he unfortunately wasn't there anymore.

      What makes me sad and angry is the fact that our parents and grandparents had to suffer so much before we could get to know something like peace and freedom. But now the memory of how terrible the past was fades away and it seems as if all the experiences of the previous generations have been for nothing.
      Today's generations grow up in permanent peace and therefore take it as granted. They don't see the danger of populists and nationalists splitting societies, such as in the US, or what it means when those lunatics destroy the EU and bring us against each other again. Present generations can't imagine what war really means. I'm afraid it's true what's being said: That you only truly understand it when you experience it yourself.

    op Bagration was an astounding success but the ruse further south was NOT a total "fake out" of the germans since a very strong offensive was launched a mere 2 weeks, after "Bagration" was launched in the southern area where the germans EXPECTED the original assault. It is NOT that difficult to fool the enemy when your resources are SO extensive as to be able to launch offensives in BOTH places WITHIN a mere 2 weeks.

      It's actually owned by the Kislyi family. Victor Kislyi is the largest shareholder (64%) and the rest of the family owns a sizeable stake. They bankrolled the initial startup, even finding funding from unusual sources to get it going.
      The company originated in Belorussia and now has the HQ in Cyprus. Victor is a games programmer and came up with a variety of online games. World of Tanks was created based on the existing programs and started in 2010. They started with Soviet, German and American tanks and added more nationalities years later.

      I think the key was the communications. Flags dont do well compared to radios.
      Also ambushing and waiting for infantry to take the impact and report the armor position, while you roll out from the rear and know where to go and what to expect.
      That had to be done because of the low armor numbers compared to Soviet numbers.. on the other hand Soviets had an entire front to move and engage an enemy expecting them.
      They moved a line, while germans hit spots..
      Just like Whitman did hell to the western allies in France..

    • @mrvk39
      @mrvk39 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      German strategy was faulty - they were building very expensive, complex tanks with bad reliability in small numbers. Production was increasing in 1944, not declining despite popular belief. It's not that production was attacked and that was the problem. The problem is that Germany was investing in tanks that were too expensive vs. allies that built cheaper, more reliable tanks in far greater numbers.

    • @WarReport.
      @WarReport. 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mrvk39 yes I know. You have America rolling 50 000 Shermans. One German General believed the solution was to focus on artillery and anti tank guns as you can produce 21 anti tank guns for one tiger's steel. Manstein believed Stugs were the way to go as you get 3 Stugs for evry tiger

    • @warplane13
      @warplane13 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      One reason why the germans build such expensive and complex tank instead of mass PZ IV is thst they simply lacked the manpower to crew so many tanks.

      @mrvk39 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @mrvk39
      @mrvk39 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@WarReport. yes, exactly! An updated Stug was more than capable as a tank hunter. Tigers by 1944 were reduced to just ambush killers due to allied air superiority and Soviet offensives. Tigers might've been useful in large tank formations for Pincer movements alla 1941.. but by 1943-1944 Germany was fighting a defensive war and Tigers and especially King Tigers were just a waste. But, Hitler's megalomania insisted upon them.

    Stalin purged all of his best leaders from the military early on in the war, leaving him with bad officers and the worst weapons of the war.It took many times the number of Soviets to take out smaller German positions with horrendous losses.Hand cranked Turrets and poor reliability, made even the hated Sherman a vastly better tank than the T34...........It took the Tank killing "Ill 2 Sturmovichs" to reverse the trend.The Germans truly feared that plane as it was hard to shoot down and could easily take out a Tiger tank with it's twin cannons and bombs.Their Rear gunners shot down many German fighters praying it was the single seat version of the Sturmovich.Near the end of the war the German pilots were told to just run from them.

      @@TheAceDestroyer I am helping with the research into the wiring and instrument panels, something, that as far as we know, there are none left. I only have a diagram in a Nashorn Handbook which is sketchy at best.
      The damage was so extensive the fire investigator could not find a cause but luckily it was built like a tank so the main bits survived but everything else that could burn did. The majority of the tyres have to be replaced but The Weald Foundation donated what they had in wheels so that helped tremendously. Robby found a place in Poland that is going to make the tyres for it and the rest is pure hard work.
      I have contacted any engineering company in Berlin during WWII as I read that Alkett resourced their materials locally so as to help with production speed. That would mean they got their batteries, wiring and instruments from around Berlin.
      You can see the work they have done so far getting it back they have also named it Phoenix

It is interesting, but he is prone to frequent diversions to sing the praises of the glorious battle to save the world from one madman while dancing around the subject of serving another. Aside from this, it is pretty interesting, and he does give the Soviet fighting man credit for tenacity and their superiority in dealing with the swampland so much of the fighting took place in in that whole area.
