    Back in the 1950's, my Mum was East Midland Champion, using a recurve bow that my Dad made
    for her, with a sight that was a strip of carpet foam glued to the back of the bow with a dress making pin!
    How much things have changed!😊😊😊

    I have a decut sight pin, a real cheap copy of a lens based sight, and the improvements in my shot are phenomenal. My entire sight cost less than some of those pins, so while I'm sure it won't last as long and the quality and clarity of the lens would probably not compare to a more expensive one, it's honestly the best upgrade I've done to my bow. I actually like the longer fibre, because once it's set, it gets me perfectly aligned because I know I only want to see one dot, not a line.
    If you're unsure about getting a new pin, for the sake of under £15 I'd personally highly recommend it.

    I have used Beiter pin with all different inserts, Shibuya normal pin and fiber pin. Now I have shot with Shrewd recurve scope with only about 1,5mm black dot on the glass. I have found that the dot in the glass is most relaxed pin for me to shoot, and it works in all lighting conditions on normal WA targets. On field targets it doesn’t work at all.

    Bravo 👍 I use Mantis x8, for reflection, and I noticed that what Jake tells here 6:49 . When I move left or right of my target, it also move up or down. So the impact points were more high left. Of course I still focus on pressure in the crip and my release.

    I found with the drilled lens type that have a stick of fiber, that the fiber was breaking while in my sight case. So I stopped using that combination. I used the Beiter for a little bit because of the square insert. All in all, wasn't a fan of fiber (gave it a go again when the Axcel rheostat version came out) because of how large/bright the "dot" was. I did try smaller fiber and just found it distracting. Since we aren't allowed bubble levels, the squareness of the aperture would alert me to any occasional canting of the bow. One of my favorite apertures was the Ambo Iris, until the rod snapped on me and neither the company I bought it from (Lancaster) nor the manufacturer would help me out with getting a new rod. The ability to easily adjust the size of the hole/circle from indoors to out and at a variety of distances without having to do more than rotate a little dial was great. But the failure of such a thin rod with the weight of the iris part keeps me from ever recommending it. That said, each time something new comes out, I end up giving it a try and ultimately go back to the Gas Pro aperture that I've been using with a small circle on the lens and a reducer ring. It works for me since I really don't like the post that holds a dot. I may give the horizontal post a try for giggles since in theory it could be used much like the Beiter square insert for any canting issues.

    As an compound archer, I use fiber optic in my scope sight. But sometimes(just indoor) it dosent lighting well, so I can see just a little black dot. It makes me stressful. Thats why nowadays Im shooting without fiber opticks indoor. I think it can be a big problem if the area is a quite dark or has a poor light.

    • @justinvzu01
      @justinvzu01 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      For us compounders that's quite standard. The Axcel AV series scopes come with really efficient fiber optics, that work perfectly indoors. I'm waiting for AVX scopes to finally ship, to get a purple one to match my bow.

    I was debating buying a AAE Gold sight pin to swap with the default sight pin on my W&W W600 sight which is vertical pin with a red dot on it. My previous and much cheaper Cartel sight had a plastic fibre rod which I liked unless it was out of alignment. I've noticed that like you spoke about, I tend to aim a bit low so maybe a horizontal pin like the AAE Gold might help with that. Nothing to loose with trying it out.

    • @lordcarnorjax8599
      @lordcarnorjax8599 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I bought the AAE Gold and I'm loving it nearly a year later. I played with the different coloured optics, initially using red but switched to green and have stuck with it. Works well and aiming off I don't tend to have a height problem either.

    I am trying to get back into compound indoor 300 shooting. I have had cataract surgery about 4 1/2 years ago. Not sure how I can see, I settled in on a recurve sight that has a
    Click adjustable aperture. This way I can adjust it to fit my 5 spot targets and only have to look through it and not have to worry about if I can see a pin or not. Later I have a scope that is basically the same. It haas a
    Clear lens of 3X, and a
    Blue lens that is a -4X, and the blue lens has a
    Hole in it. The blue blurs out the blue rings so all I will see is white and stare at that X ring. I just hope the recurve sight holds up with my low poundage compound. It should be fine. I have a fixture with my old Sure Loc sights that use a long tube plus a threaded screw through that tube.

    Currently I'm using an axcel RXF Sjef and I like it. It is not so bulky as the RX and still has rheostat. (However I didn't use the rheostat yet because I don't have place to shoot outdoors.)

    I just switched to the 8mm Beiter, clear rim (the shop didn't have black and so I discovered the advantage of a clear one by accident). Using a yellow crosshair type insert right now (got all possible colors with me every time and might try some different options). Had the Titan Scope before that and it was an absolute nightmare outside once the sun was low enough to hit the lens enough... Sometimes I couldn't see anything anymore. Also the rim was quite distracting to me as I couldn't get it to line up enough with rings on the target while at the same time kind of blocking out parts of what I aimed at. Bought it cause I thought it's cool and hightech and whatever, but ended up realizing that simple is sometimes best unless you shoot Compound.

    Only been shooting 5 years or so and when I started, everyone had an opinion on what sight was best. I tried the Decut one, large ring, plastic lens with fibre optic and found that at 90m, the ring was larger than the whole boss and the fibre optic was useless, it was ok indoors but got rid of that as I needed a sight ring that worked both indoors and outdoors. Went to a standard ring with pin and found that indoors, the pin totally covered the gold and then some, and I found that distracting, so I cut the pin out, was a plastic one, so easy enough. The ring is a thin one and I can subconciously align the sight ring with the target face rings, however, aiming off in the wind at 90m is challenging, I do ok (1149 Fita) but I want to do better. Some have suggested a square pin, square outer, circle inner, some align the whole sight pin that with the target boss, I tried but if the boss it not perfectly upright, you're canting the bow, so I gave up on that one. I have, today, switched to the sight pin that came with my Shibuya 2 and practicing with that to get used to a pin by cutting out the gold on a fita 18 face, it takes time to find what works for you I guess but worth taking the time in the end. Great vid Jake.

    I'm with you on the horizontal pin for the same reason. It's strange as I've been an FPS gamer since the Quake days and always used a red dot. Shooting rifles, an upright pin no problem. Archery, and for some reason, I aim low with a vertical pin.
    The only thing I've come up with that seems to make sense to me is that on the Axcel sight where I experienced the problem, the sight pin is quite thick and subconsciously perhaps I was keeping it low in order to not block out my view of the 10 ring. That's just a guess, but nothing else makes sense to me when shooting iron sights on a rifle doesn't make me aim low.

    Worse with the titan scope's lens is that I noticed the glass is concave or convex depending on which side you use and they are not perfect. They have a haze/mirage effect.
    Another problem is the scope body or the inner grove where the lens is placed is not perfectly machined and tilts a little to the right. Looking at the scope/lense it skews the target picture to the right. Soo my sight windage needs to be screwed in the farther in the farther distance I shoot to compensate for it. Never going back to using lens scopes again.

    • @JakeKaminskiArchery

      Have you seen and "leveled" your sight like the way I describe in this video? th-cam.com/video/Ieg8calRUk8/w-d-xo.html I think the lens in the Titan is less than ideal for sure, but this if you haven't leveled your sight like this, you can still have that issue with any sight.
