I still love medabots with a passion and I still have my medabots figures, plus some of the old Gameboy advance games I really wish the show was still running here in the states plus I love your blind bag idea.
I revisited this series a while ago and thought to my self it had a good concept and how it could make a interesting game. I think it should get a reboot.
CR, you helped me discover an old part of my childhood. when I was younger, a cousin of mine gave my brother and I a whole bunch of old comics. Issue 1 of Medabots was part of that collection. thank you for helping to jog my memory
I really liked that show as a kid. I was actually thinking about it quite a lot a month ago, even re-watching some of the old episodes. I think the only merch I got of it was some crappy Taco Bell kids meal things that I wouldn't even call toys.
My little brother found one of these in woolworths, years after the series was gone and it was shoved in the back of the shelf. Even employees looked at it and wondered, since it wasn't on their database anymore. Ironically it was Medabee (featured in video) and we only wished we had some others to play with.
Interesting enough, there is a Medabot Tabletop RPG that was released this year based on the system used in Nechronica. The idea is the same as the show/game, targetted body parts that grant the player (or in this case your medabot) different powers and abilities. I don't know too much about the system besides that but I can dig up whatever I can if interested.
Man did I love Metabots growing up, I'm pretty sure I still have a booklet full of the short lived card series. The shows dub was really fun I liked that it felt like it wasn't taking itself to seriously. Great video CR always happy to see your newest work.
Now all you need is a 3-D printer, and a distribution company and you can make your own series. Or just going to partnership with TJ Omega, I hear you have a great distribution system without having to buy a 3-D printer, I think he did a whole 101 series on it.
That is a great idea for a game, a modular "build your own" game. And you could do spin offs with "build your own monster/alien/adventurer" to incorporate different genres into the mix.
I remember these figures. I used to collect them myself, but never bothered with the game aspect because it was just a simple matter of finding the highest level parts and going godmode with them. Oddly enough, my entire collection just up and vanished one day and I still have no idea what happened to them.
Loved that show and had some of the toys. I also remember the show Cubix on 4Kids(?) at the same time. It was kinda crappy but had a just as awesome theme song.
My man! Medabots was rad back in the day. I'm actually glad it didn't get super babby popular back in the day, since part of it's charm is that it's kind of a parody of Pokemon in some way. I used to collect the miniatures as well. Still have my favorites: Rokusho and Warbandit sitting on my shelf. Need to find Blackram so my main team for the GBA games can be complete.
I remember an alternative dollar store toy similar to this but way more in depth where each body part had a correlating 3 sided prism. then you take 6 of those and put them into a hexagon die casing. each part allowed for multiple options including attacking or defending. The only problem is... I can't find this toy anywhere!
You should totally play the Medabots GBA games: Medabots Medabee and Rokusho Versions. It's pretty much the game you described. Most Medapart have special abilities, and you get a boost for having Medaparts of a type corresponding to the Medal your Medabot has. Furthermore, each Medal has its own Medaforce abilities, so unlike Pokemon, you can essentially mix and match parts to suit the situation, or create your own perfect team. You can deploy up to 3 Medabots into battle at a time, and keep a total of 9 Medabot chassis around, once you unlock each chassis, so you can have 9 different builds ready to go. And the games even have a story independent of the anime, despite you playing as Ikki. I highly recommend it. Sadly, you'll probably have to get an emulator and a ROM, but if you like the Pokemon games, it's a pretty good RPG experience.
Hi, I'm one of those GoBots defenders and I'm pretty sure Tonka and Hasbro just had a similar idea (go to Japan, do something with the transforming robots they found), similar to the Swamp Thing/Man-Thing coincidence. Also, I like your Medabots-style game idea.
I owned a couple of these figures. And yes, I always found the concept of swap-able parts compelling. Last year, I think, I saw Half Prince Books was selling a box set with the entire Medabots tv series. The whole thing, and for relatively cheap. But for whatever reason (frugality probably), I passed it by. I kind of regret that decision now.
They apparently still make the video game series in Japan. I remember seeing something about a new 3DS game coming out with in the last year. It had "Girl" or "Gal" or something like that in the title.
Not now. The company that developed the 3DS games went bankrupt and now this year they're re-releasing the first 5 games on the 3DS called Medarot Classics.
I remember seeing one episode of this show. It had to do with a failing zoo that kept dressing up robots to be different attractions. At least I think it was robots
Oi nostalgia overload here; I actually own the first season of Medabots on DVD (before it got weirder) and now I want to play some of the games... Oh cool the Wii U eshop has the gameboy advance ones, BRB gonna see if those games are any good.
At my school if we rolled it onto it's side, we called that a "Metaforce" and you would win right then. lol And we would battle for parts. Betting on parts with each other
I used to have all the medabots toys when I was child in my country Portugal when I moved away at 10 I wonder what happened to those toys maybe someone has collected them.
Your Medabots are 'slimy' because you most likely kept them in a plastic sandwich bag (like a Ziploc one). Keeping toys in those things long-term can and will break the plastic down! I belive there are some online stores (and some collector shops) that sell small bags that DON'T break down the plastic on those toys!
I myself used to own a handful of those figurines when I was a kid. But I lost them, and tore up several of the pieces anyway. (I thought some of the protrusions ere supposed to come off, like the arms legs and head.
I think I vaguely remember this series I think, but great review CR will you ever do voids? Like maybe a retrospective? I was huge in them when I was in middle school
I always like Medabots ALOT. I will admit I was more into Pokemon, but for some reason Medabots always felt more real to me. I mean it was basically a show about nerdy fan boys buying swag. Unlike Pokemon it wasn't alive. In Pokemon their are ethical questions and you have to find them etc. With Medabots they are at the end of the day a toy. Imagine if like those bobble head things some people go crazy for could fight, that's what a medabot WAS. So the whole Medabots thing always seemed fun to pretend because well they were practically real. A personal robot toy, give it a couple decades and they probably will exist to some degree....
FamiliarFacesChannel I must've watched that movie over a dozen times in my youth. That and *batteries not included really drove my interest in things like robotics and A.I.
There was decent a pokemon style rpg on the GBA, even came in 2 two different versions a Rokusho and a Medabee version. Theres also a Medabots game for japan only for the 3ds, remember hearing that it had stripe battles and whenever you beat someone in a fight all their clothes get ripped off.
There's a lot of games that are Japan exclusive actually, from the original title on the Gameboy to Medarot 9 on the 3DS. The game you are describing is called Medarot Girls Mission, there are no "strip battles" but what you describe can be achieved trough a special finisher attack (Hyper Finisher). th-cam.com/video/J_gDQO49rPM/w-d-xo.html
You know, it's funny, thinking on the anime... the villains kinda had the right idea... Use these robots that, y'know, have flamethrowers and metal-cutting claws... To take over the world. The problem, however, is that EVERYONE has a Medabot. I also remember, most prominently aside from Medabee and Rokusho, the kid with the dog Medabot -but not their names- and apparently some proverb or folk-tale dictated that he chose the wrong Medal for his robot, because the "Monkey Medal" was only good for wrestling-types... ... It's sad that I still remember that.
I actually found the anime and thought it was good. although for some reason season 1 had excellent side characters but really stupid villians while season 2 had badass villians but little to no side characters.
Okay but like... can someone ACTUALLY make a game like that please? That sound really, really fun and would totally get me back into collectible tabletop games.
Hmm, a knock-off of the Medabots figurine game created by one of the most talented artists I know? Get Master the Creator involved and you can consider me sold!
Well it's been 8 years, where is the kick starter? 😂 If there is anyone still interested in this idea, frostgrave structure is the way to go for skirmish (many vs many); and pocket fantasy would be the way to go 1x1 or 1xMany. Just saying... though some flavoring would go nicely.
It need a update of rules for a meta game. If it only focus in the number most hight, the game become unfair and strategiesless. The original hasbro game is simple and fun but... for little time. After these become some repetitive (for somebody maybe bored). Im thinking for updated rules 😹
I still love medabots with a passion and I still have my medabots figures, plus some of the old Gameboy advance games I really wish the show was still running here in the states plus I love your blind bag idea.
also I'd so support a kick starter of your game
I'm a simple man. I see a CR video in my sub feed, I instantly watch it
I know the feeling, I wonder if he played any JRPGs on the PS1. Would love to hear his retrospective on some.
I revisited this series a while ago and thought to my self it had a good concept and how it could make a interesting game. I think it should get a reboot.
CR, you helped me discover an old part of my childhood. when I was younger, a cousin of mine gave my brother and I a whole bunch of old comics. Issue 1 of Medabots was part of that collection. thank you for helping to jog my memory
omg i had some of those figures as a kid! never played the game with the dice, but instead just played with the figures! so many good memories!
My brother and I have a ton of these figures! I remember really loving the show too.
Super cool series, I'm glad TH-cam does not delete these older videos
I really liked that show as a kid. I was actually thinking about it quite a lot a month ago, even re-watching some of the old episodes. I think the only merch I got of it was some crappy Taco Bell kids meal things that I wouldn't even call toys.

aw~ memories flowing back. i loved this series.

All I can think about is Matt from the Zaibatsu screaming, "MEDABOTS!"
Wow, just seeing these things and the anime clips gave me instant nostalgia.
Welp, time to go binge watch Metabots!
Man did I love Metabots growing up, I'm pretty sure I still have a booklet full of the short lived card series. The shows dub was really fun I liked that it felt like it wasn't taking itself to seriously. Great video CR always happy to see your newest work.

I love Meda bots, and this game is not so bad(especially your version). The figures are really cool, i would love to get some.
Great to the see this show is not dead
I LOVED THESE! seriously, my favorite one was the caterpillar -like Mega Emperor.
AWWW Member Medabots? The concept was so cool.
I miss this show, hope you will be making more of them soon.
Loved that show and had some of the toys. I also remember the show Cubix on 4Kids(?) at the same time. It was kinda crappy but had a just as awesome theme song.
I fucking loved these! I didn't actually do the game with them I just loved collecting them and swapping the parts!
I miss this series, it's so unique.
My man! Medabots was rad back in the day. I'm actually glad it didn't get super babby popular back in the day, since part of it's charm is that it's kind of a parody of Pokemon in some way.

Oh god, Im getting childhood flashback s( seriously medabots have been in the back of my brain for years.)
This brings me back
I owned a couple of these figures.
These were a single U.S. dollar at dollar tree I had nin-ninja, sumilidon, arc beetle, metabee, and belzelga, and a grey rokusho.
They apparently still make the video game series in Japan. I remember seeing something about a new 3DS game coming out with in the last year. It had "Girl" or "Gal" or something like that in the title.
They're a weird spinoff of the recent mainline 3DS games with schoolgirls. I mean, I guess it worked with Kiss Players...
That was Girls Mission, which came out in March.
Not now. The company that developed the 3DS games went bankrupt and now this year they're re-releasing the first 5 games on the 3DS called Medarot Classics.
Finally someone talks about metabots
I still have some of these figures in my garage, but I never watched the anime.
I will rectify that during December.
that's/....an OUTSTANDING idea...
I received the arena, as a chrismas present it came with 2 fiquers but never got any extras
I think I may actually have some of those in a box somewhere.
I remember seeing one episode of this show. It had to do with a failing zoo that kept dressing up robots to be different attractions. At least I think it was robots
Best of luck on your new original game!
oh my god I used to have all of these, I didn't know it was a game.
Oi nostalgia overload here; I actually own the first season of Medabots on DVD (before it got weirder) and now I want to play some of the games... Oh cool the Wii U eshop has the gameboy advance ones, BRB gonna see if those games are any good.
Medabots was the shit back in the day.
I had Multicolor, the chameleon Metabot. I think I will have him in my stuff at home.
Nice video :) I still got the Metabee toy.
I liked the figures because they reminded me of Beastformers.
At my school if we rolled it onto it's side, we called that a "Metaforce" and you would win right then. lol
And we would battle for parts. Betting on parts with each other
That's a pretty cool house rule.
medabots got me into model kits
I'd love to play that game.
I used to have all the medabots toys when I was child in my country Portugal when I moved away at 10 I wonder what happened to those toys maybe someone has collected them.

literally still buying medabots brand new on ebay. I love medabots lol
please tell me you are still gonna try doing this kitstart, I'd so support it
I ACTUALLY USE TO HAVE THE ARENA GROWING UP!
This was a quick episode.
this is like pokemon but unlike the creatures you catch these are ALL robots and their awesome weapons and abilities
So how long before the Familiar Faces Figure Game.... Id play.
Do you know about the LBX series, it is kinda like Medabots.
so hows the kick start, seriously I want your fighting robot game, hell I'd fly down to ya just to play
I always like Medabots ALOT. I will admit I was more into Pokemon, but for some reason Medabots always felt more real to me. I mean it was basically a show about nerdy fan boys buying swag. I can see it now,
Cheap Damage: RPG Maker - Road to Roborriors
Coming in 2017. _It's like free real estate..._
I remember wanting that giant medabots toy that was an actual robot. Still, I remember liking the gba game except for some bullshit difficulty spikes.
1:29, I dug out mine and had this issue to with one of them lmao.
Did I detect the faint sound of music from Short Circuit in the background?
good ear
FamiliarFacesChannel
I must've watched that movie over a dozen times in my youth. That and *batteries not included really drove my interest in things like robotics and A.I.
I would be all over those Medabots blindbags.

I thought natsume was trying to get the newest medabots game on the vita here.

Yes Please! Make the game, Kickstart it and I WILL buy it!
i got most of the games dont have the gameboy ones on gba and newer
Was there ever a fighting game?
I know there was a "Smash" like game on the GBA.
Medabots AX/Medarot G is the game CR is referring to. If you're looking for something on a 3D plane, there's Medarot Dual, and uh, Girls Mission.
I actually found the anime and thought it was good. although for some reason season 1 had excellent side characters but really stupid villians while season 2 had badass villians but little to no side characters.
Oh shit, metabots!
so that means lbx is from medabots now I understand
Isn't LBX the same game now and that still didn't do well here?
I wait Medaparts for print in 3D
Okay but like... can someone ACTUALLY make a game like that please? That sound really, really fun and would totally get me back into collectible tabletop games.
Do a video on the mlp card games
Any won no where to get any of these
Please kickstart this, I beg of you
Please tell me you really might make this game someday. I would play the fuck out of it.
do the card game please
I have no idea why you haven't been hired to be a creative consultant tbh
kickstart your game!
well at least you didn't talk about cubits
Hmm, a knock-off of the Medabots figurine game created by one of the most talented artists I know? Get Master the Creator involved and you can consider me sold!

Dude Medabots should get picked up by Glyos.
4:16 wtf
This game need a new rules xD
I member.
it's call medarots not medabots it's a video game series not a anime show
It need a update of rules for a meta game.
If it only focus in the number most hight, the game become unfair and strategiesless.
The original hasbro game is simple and fun but... for little time. After these become some repetitive (for somebody maybe bored).
Im thinking for updated rules 😹
Why don't you let your imagenation take control of what you want to do with the toys
its rare? seriously? i got that shit at sand r for like a dollar or two back in like... 2003?
For real? It’s rare? I still have it and the box I think haha wtf
