can you guys do one for night time when there is low visibility?
FSD speeds in 3 school zones every morning taking 3 kids to 3 schools. Also my country roads are narrow with no lines and hogs the middle of the road where you need to drive real tight to the edge of road to make room. It’s forcing the other vehicle off the road. No good

You know in case robotaxis are approved they could limit it to good weather while the technology matures, right? Driver’s performance also decreases with bad weather, probably more sharply than cameras.
(Also, your windshield might get foggy, but the camera module is airtight, hence no fog)
The u turn cut in was the scariest
Something similar happened to me at night on a road trip last week, it was the scariest thing! So glad we swerved to avoid it. Wish we had a dashcam or a Tesla to capture it.
A car was doing an illegal U-turn on the highway, our car had to move to the left lane because of police vehicles and a car being put on a tow truck, then right after that the car pulled in front of us in the left lane - Glad there was no one in the right lane!

How will you account for "multiple cameras blocked or blinded" while it's simply raining, as my car likes to frequently remind me? Just curious, because it seems there needs to be some mechanism for clearing the cameras while driving.
Exactly, all of these tests are shown in perfect California weather. Not all places have perfect weather and excellent visibility at all times. Would be curious to see night time test, rainy weather test (not California rain but try NC/FL/NY or Seattle) and a combination of both.
Or dark. I have a long, early morning commute through the countryside where there aren't a lot of lights. I get that message all the time. The car ought to be able to know that it's still night and adjust the camera settings accordingly... the screen does it, so the cameras should be able to too.

Mid day, perfect weather scenario. Try this in Norway, at end of day rush 5PM in the winter or autumn, it will be pitch black, cameras will be covered by rain, snow and fog. Camera flares will always be in effect from every street lamp or car light.
The person "driving" has nerves of steel. I would have wanted to take over so many times, but amazing the car is successfully navigating these situations.

I don't like the cone ones, it had a lead car, so it wasn't judging completely by itself, it had reference to follow.
That car was creating the occlusion. How else are you supposed to occlude something in the middle of the road? Also, FSD does not follow other cars, it thinks on its own and reacts accordingly based on training data.

Yeah, I hit a semi's shredded re-tread while on cruise control at 75mph in West TX on I-10 during a new moon night. It launched my brand new 1983 Oldsmobile Cutlass Calais and bent the under driver's door rocker panel. Scared the hell out of my sleeping Dad! Nothing could've stopped that from happening, but I suspect you would criticize a FSD Tesla for hitting it, too. smh

Scenario 15: High speed stationary child (6:24)-- I wonder if the car would try to pass the child in the left lane like it did in the high speed cutout to stationary car example. Perhaps thats why the blue tesla was parked in the opposite lane.
I was about to ask the same thing! It’s weird they stationed a large vehicle next to the small pedestrian. What’s the point of that in proving the car will act safely around a small pedestrian.
Then again, my model 3 has emergency braked for raccoons attempting to cross the road at night during heavy rain. So I don’t doubt it’s capable.
I think it can quickly identify a car vs a human or other object tho. But I wouldn’t take that bet on a driverless car.
I'd love to see these done in winter, on snow or even better, ice!

reduced speeds for sure but ice is ice, doesnt matter if you're two wheel drive or in a 6x6 you cant get control on ice without spiked tires or chains or something to dig into the slippery surface.

Seriously, giving a gentle honk in these cases is a good idea: to tell the other driver their driving is dangerous. Some of them may not realize that their risk driving behavior.

Post event honking serves no purpose but to piss someone off. The only reason to honk is if doing so will reduce the chance of an imminent accident (someone coming into your lane, someone starts rolling despite conflicting traffic coming, etc.). Honking after the fact can end one of two ways - nothing or road rage.
@qwerty112311 nah that's a very narrow view of post event honking. You are informing another driver that what they did was dangerous and had you not taken action, would have resulted in an accident that was 100% their fault.

They should have test scenarios for overturned and totaled vehicles, oil slicks, etc. Not testing it means it's not recognized and will lead to performances when encountered by end users. For instance, a leaking oil tanker or overturned semi truck/hauler flipped across multiple lanes

@@CharaiABC And just how often is that really a concern?! In all my years of driving, I have never encountered an overturned vehicle and I'd be willing to be 99% of drivers haven't either. Oil slicks just don't happen as tanker trucks are designed to withstand a great deal of damage for that very reason. Totaled vehicles are generally not ON the road.

The major issue that I have is depending solely on Camera's.
The whole point of FSD is that it is supposed to be "BETTER" than a human driver.
But if it is foggy, rainy at evening or dawn or similar conditions, the Camera's are pretty useless.
Even without FSD, when I drove, my car detected in a foggy situation that there was a car stopped in front of me.
This would not happen in the CAMERA ONLY models.
so sadly, I am no more interested in these things.
Hopefully other car makers don't follow Tesla like they did with the NO PHYSICAL BUTTONS thing and think about scenarios like this and not depend on CAMERAS ONLY.

I have to say, I DO always feel safer when my FSD is engaged. I take over the wheel quite often, because, I'm quite impatient when it comes to driving, BUT, I always feel a little "out of it" and "unprotected" when I do. It's a weird feeling, but, it's a good one. I know my car is taking care of me.
You should pull that on a highway going 90 at night
FSD is much worse than a human. It will not see anything at night, and you will die in a crash if youre not paying attention

A well managed town or city should have clear lane markings unless they don't care about the residents/tax payers. Address that problem to your city/town council...not Tesla FSD team.

Thank you Tesla for performing these tests and we are eager to see the result of further testing in adverse weather conditions. To everyone who owns a Tesla with this feature, remember that it is a tool and not a replacement for driving. Make sure its supervised.
In scenario 4, the speed reduction (from 30 mph) began at 1:26, one second before the second car started moving. Someone is cheating.
I think it’s called anticipation
It does look like that, but the frame rate is different in this footage than what the car sees. There was likely a wheel turn at 30 mph, which led to slowdown due to anticipation.
Remember the cameras in the car and the camera capturing this demo work differently. I think they should have uploaded this is 60 fps.
Here’s my analysis from a financial perspective:
Why risk the reputation of a company, hire a team to stage things, when you could just hire a team of smart engineers to make it actually work pretty good.
My Tesla anticipates accidents before they happen. Humans and FSD both can get cues for what’s about to happen before it happens. This is true for when it monitors my behavior, which as not subconsciously letting off the accelerator when the car in front of me does, or when it monitors other cars / people. It’s able to understand if a person walking near the road is about to enter the road, or if it is natural, like a person approaching a crosswalk.
New Tesla owner here (‘25 MYP) . Absolutely love fsd. As always, needs some work but dang it. It does like 90% of most drives perfectly fine. Helped my wife come home safely one night after a long shift (nurse) . Felt good knowing the system was alert and competent when she was groggy and tired.
It's already better than the average driver.
Does the driver have to be fully alert during fsd? Eyes open with hands on the steering wheel?

Please, for the safety of your family, do not trust Tesla autopilot, especially at night. The poor night time camera visibility has caused numerous crashes on autopilot, many of which resulted in fatalities. :(
It is impressive Tesla. I think you'll need to test in Boston as a stress-test. When I used it during autumn 2024 free trial, I had to turn it off because it couldn't handle the quirkiness of Boston roads + jaywalkers + traffic light placements + weather + etc. Here is where it stands for me: FSD cannot drive in Boston, but a human can.
Boston, and LA too, and the wide suburbs where I live. If you look at this demo, you can see that a human would have predicted and slowed before the FSD, which reacted too late for a full-speed, real-world stop. This is like smoke and mirrors, this demo.

The trial from autumn is already outdated. fsd v13.2.x is far better and a few months from now v13.2.x will be outdated to the same extent. There are videos on youtube of v13 handling crazy city streets during rush hour just fine. It's not perfect, but if you had v13 you would probably have kept it on the majority of the time. v12 is basically just good enough to be useful if you like fsd already.

In 2017 I already paid for FSD. The promise was then that it would be ready by the end of 2017. Even then, there were already such videos on Tesla's website. Now it's already 2025 and I'm still waiting....
The Model S only changes lanes on the highway independently after you have indicated it yourself. So that is absolutely not an FSD.
In addition, it is still bursting with error messages. The cameras do not work when it rains, when the sun is low or when it is too dark.
Nice weather, no one else on the road and only 2 cars, as in the video is not reality. I would like to see FSD at work in the center of Amsterdam, with all cyclists and pedestrians. In my opinion,
Tesla is once again promising too much.

It’s impressive, but let’s not forget there are companies that have put real driverless cars on the road, and though they are not perfect, Tesla is FAR behind them because they are too CHEAP to use proper hardware and rely solely on footage from a couple cell phone quality cameras. This is why Tesla autopilot has resulted 51 DEATHS…

For me, FSD saw a red light runner and braked appropriately. Idiot blew through a 10 second red light at 60 mph. Saved the footage because Teslas are awesome, and are capable of doing that.
Door opening, “harsh high speed brake” and high speed tests in general were a bit too lenient imo but still really great work from the ap team this looks great

Hardware 4 does amazing in this FSD Safety Test. Unfortunately, majority of the fleet is still using Hardware 3….which is no longer being supported for upcoming versions. 💀

They are going to be working on getting hardware. Three updated with the newest f s d but if they fail to do so, they will completely update our hardware to hardware four I just hope it's sooner than later

The game changer is so simple! The ability to toggle on FSD when desired - charging by the mile until 99 bucks, which is the monthly fee. Only pay for FSD when you use it.

The US is priority-right too, except at T-junctions, that last part being a major difference with Germany. The German rule makes a lot of sense, but would be hard to apply in the US with the huge network of rural highways with driveway/minor road T-junctions (a bad design for sure but not something I expect to ever see fixed).
Self-driving will eventually learn how to drive everywhere under the local rules. It'll be great for everyone, but travelers in particular.

My FSD takes me from my front door to my work 45 minutes away without me having to touch the pedal or wheel anytime.
It changes lanes and does everything on its own.
It drives fine in the rain and sun and now visibility conditions, I live in a state where it rains 85% of the year so I would know.

13 with oncoming opposite traffic would make the scenario challenging, even for most human drivers. Demonstrating that it can not only do what below average human drivers and master, but also be more safe than the above average would be interesting to see. Great demo.

I would like to see the Tesla FSD performance on South African roads where there are reckless minibus taxis and random huge potholes.
In the stationary child demonstration, why is there a car stopped in the opposing lane? A challenge with children is that, without true range finding, a nearby child looks like a farther adult. Show me the same demo without the opposing car, and I will be convinced they have it. Tests are usually run with minimal elements, and the car does not otherwise have a purpose. (i.e. it's not occluding) Also, would like to see the high-speed tests at night.
As a Tesla owner, one major improvement would be adding an alert when someone is about to merge into you on the interstate etc. I've had this happen multiple times, including a semi. Luckily I was paying attention. I was not using FSD, but I expected an alert at the very least or an auto swerve to avoid.

Ya really. Even though the clip was uploaded very recently, seems the actual tests were done quite some time ago, and on V12... Even so, it gives me a bit more confidence I can trust FSD a bit more. It's stuff like this that scares me..Will the car actually react properly to avoid a collision. The high speed harsh stop was something I can relate too. Happens all the time on the freeway. It did good. I hope the test cars were insured just in case there was a boo boo. LOL.
When I had this version of v12, my car never was that good and just as stressful as previous versions. It didn't make me like it until I got v13.
In certain scenarios (e.g., the first one), I hope FSD can beep to warn other drivers too

I use FSD quite often, especially the latest version that just released. It's been pretty stellar during optimal conditions, such as no rain with moderate light and has saved me from an accident a couple time. However, when it comes to night, the quality of FSD does take a nosedive, especially if you throw rain or fog into the mix. Hoping in the future there is a way to have FSD sustain its performance in every weather condition rather than just the most optimal.
XAI320 going up like crazy! Pick up around 0.67 and now it’s hit $1! I wish i had bought more!

1:42 ‼️ turning the wheel while stationary as the car is going by is dangerous to do while still running FSD in supervised mode. Once it’s unsupervised, it won’t matter. However, for now, people are still trying to use the cues from the car to determine user safety. Turning into oncoming vehicle traffic is confusing for the driver and the oncoming car
I thought I was watching Whamm Bamm Tesla Cam.
HW4 is very good. I was impressed how it drove me from my sister's house to my house at night 35 mins away by using 4 highways and through streets without lights. But do remember that it is not perfect, so always be ready to take over. The more times it drives in unknow narrow roads the better it gets.
FSD v12.3+ and more recently v12.5+ were both amazing and a huge steps forward. (On both HW3 & HW4)
However…
I just got FSD v13.2+ (HW4) and WOW!!
To go from being parked at my home, all the way to finding itself a parking spot at any destination is absolutely mind blowing to see a car do on its own 🤯
It’s been a rocky road, but Tesla has come a long freaking way. So excited for the future! 🔥🙌
Show us how it also crushes on low speed because no USS! I'm a Model S owner and the lack of sensors (for rain too) is a freaking nightmare.
FSD 12.5.6 ran me into a curb at a merge. New rim and tires are on the way. There are many big wins with FSD but some critical failures as well. Don’t spend $8,000 on FSD until it is out of beta IMO.

@@citizen3000 It isn't excuses, it is having the ability to read and understand that the system isn't fully finished and still requires monitoring. There is a reason that all cars, no matter the brand or model, that use any kind of safety systems, ADAS, or self-driving features, flash a warning before activating them. YOU as a driver are responsible when the car makes a mistake. If you allow yourself to become complacent and the system makes a mistake and that causes and accident, that is on YOU.
@@rednwhitecooper No, you don't trust FSD yet! Why do people thing they should, when Tesla even tells you to pay attention while using FSD?! When it becomes "Unsupervised" FSD, then you can trust it. But I will say that v13 takes a lot of stress out of driving. Even Autopilot 4 years ago relieved my highway driving stress.
Do the same tests at night & while it's raining.

Do a dog running out from a driveway. It’s the unknown-knowns you have to work on. Totally impressed with what you’re trying to achieve. The variables you need to acquire and program are vast. As a 67 year old I have acquired those variables and each time I venture out I use those variables to acquire even more scenarios.
At 3:48, why would it starts braking before the other car turns left? Does it just slow down in these scenarios regardless of the other car turning left or not?

The fact that they're using real vehicles to test this rather than dummy vehicles shows how much trust they have in the software...
What are those things on the roofs? Could they be additional sensors?

They’re “testing” in ideal conditions, using incidents they know the car can handle. Good luck using this at night or in poor weather. Just please for the love of god do not trust a computer to drive you in your car. Please. At least not in a Tesla. This video is propaganda to sell their “Full Self Driving” which is NOT actually capable of fully operating the vehicle to the standard of a human driver.

It definitely is the future of automotive road safety right there... because I'm not seeing an ICE car doing all of this with the same results, and it would be even more expensive to try and put FSD on ICE cars anyway (you'd also need to automate the clutch; the gearbox etc), so another point in favor of EVs!...

It would still have to be approved there first. Currently Europe doesn’t allow cars to steer more than like 15° on their own.
In 2017 I already paid for FSD. The promise was then that it would be ready by the end of 2017. Even then, there were already such videos on Tesla's website. Now it's already 2025 and I'm still waiting....
The Model S only changes lanes on the highway independently after you have indicated it yourself. So that is absolutely not an FSD.
In addition, it is still bursting with error messages. The cameras do not work when it rains, when the sun is low or when it is too dark.
Nice weather, no one else on the road and only 2 cars, as in the video is not reality. I would like to see FSD at work in the center of Amsterdam, with all cyclists and pedestrians. In my opinion,

5:51 if only FSD would always keep a 3-second safety distance at 100 km/h. It does not. Sometimes it's less than a car length away from the car in front, which will probably be a read end collision at high speed if the car in front would brake like this.
FSD doesn't need as big a distance between cars because it detects changes faster than human drivers (and never gets caught off guard by looking in a rear view mirror or billboard, etc.)
The law is only 2 seconds. 3 seconds would be 15 car lengths.

In California, Vehicle Code 21703 states that a driver must maintain a "reasonable and prudent" distance based on road conditions, traffic, and vehicle speed, essentially meaning you must follow at a distance that allows for safe stopping in most situations,

This is all awesome, but as someone who lives in the Nordics, I'd love to see how fsd handles snowy, icy roads and roundabouts.
Something's a bit fishy. At 3:48, the test car starts to break before the target car starts to turn into its path.
the target car is moving slowly the whole time and has its blinker on, play it back frame by frame, perhaps it was picking up on that small movement and being cautious
@pingcode I did indeed notice that. That's why I worded my comment the way I did, "starts to turn into its path." It's still strange and perhaps even overly cautious that it would brake from such minimal movement.

AEB is essential in any new car. Even good new cars with manual transmission have it. I wouldn't buy a new car without it. It's a lifesaver and saves money too.

Safety features like that are in all Teslas, but it will beep and display the dangerous car in red.
Here it's "only" FSD's reactions, but even if FSD fails to react, there is still the collision avoidance system behind to take over, just like if you were driving.
Hopefully they can do more with toll booths on interstates. I’ve had some really close calls on trips over the holidays where the car got confused and just stopped

The biggest thing in terms of safety is to "yield to the idiot" which is beautiful to see FSD handle! :) I love this technology!
Firm believer in FSD have it enabled 80% of my drives however entering the highway two cars in front of me avoided a tire that was on the road FSD didn't and now I got messed up undercarrage for something that could have been avoided. Buttttttt I still use FSD because mistakes happen and it relives so much of my driving and does it so well!!!!!!!!!!!!!
