Woweeee. Astarion is still INCREDIBLY sweet even if you didn't kill Cazador for him. I expected him to be very bitter towards you for not helping him. It goes to show just how much he's grown as a character throughout the journey regardless if you completed his quest or not. Thank you so much for this.
He only turns bitter if you keep refusing. Like, you not helping him before? "Yeah, no worries, I get it, this kind of "end of the world" scenario that's literally happening _right now_ is kind of more important than Cazador's "the end of the world only happens if he gets me" scenario." But if you still don't help him once that's done? You're just another "hero" for him at that point.
I didn't even know leaving Cazador alive was an option. Never even considered it cause I was like, "That man is a dead man...no 'ifs ands or buts' about it. He's dead...all time...everytime. Fuck that guy in particular." 🤣
I felt absolutely gutted man. He's no longer with Cazador but he's still his Spawn. He's been reduced to hiding and eating pests to survive. Because he can't walk the sun he has to hide during the night, when Cazador encourages his other Spawn "to work". Him asking if you'd be willing to spare the time to kill Cazador so that he can walk the night without fearing enslavement, abuse, and torment- oof. This game really thought of it all.
Man I feel sorry for Astarion, it would be better to kill him off than to let him be under Cazador once again. Just seems cruel to let him go back to Cazador after all he's been through.
I didn't know this ending, it's nice that you posted it. I think it's bittersweet, because if in a conversation with Astarion player doesn't tell him that he will help him with Cazador, our favorite vampire will be living on borrowed time, just like the last 6 months. Because Cazador will find him for sure and take him under his power, torture him and finally kill him to become ascendand. And as Astarion's words shows that he really needs this help, because as long as Cazador is alive, danger may lurk around every corner. He has to live like a fugitive, never let down his guard, and it's really sad after everything he experienced through 200 years. But I'm surprised how nice he is after Tav ignored helping him during their adventure together and didn't help him with Cazdor. The old Astarion would have gotten angry, screamed, felt betrayed and abandoned. Here, Astarion is happy to see Tav and even he is clearly hurt that Tav didn't have time to help him with Cazador, he just hopes that it will happen again and he can ask for it. He hopes that his friend will not abandon him to a terrible fate. This whole adventure really changed Astarion a lot, his character development and transformation are extraordinary.

Why wouldn't you go killing Cazador is beyond me, I'm surprised he hasn't tracked down Astarion to kill him or enslave him back, heck, how can Astarion be walking around without Cazador being able to order him back is pretty curious in itself, unless Cazador made his ritual without Astarion and now is not gonna bother with his favorite spawn, or if he finds him again, he'll bring him back to torture him for eternity as his favorite toy to break and make suffer.
I think there were some clues that he was looking for a replacement after Astarion had disappeared, so here he probably just completed the ritual without him. As for why he hasn't found Astarion yet... Well, maybe he is just too busy enjoying his new true vampire powers. Astarion probably doesn't have much more time left though
As another comment above already states, Cazador was indeed looking for a replacement. You can find a note from another spawn who talks about not wanting to be a stand-in for Astarion, and they accidentally unalive themselves during an attempt to use a potion to falsify their own death/corpse. It's likely that during the span of half a year Cazador found a replacement, but if he really wanted Astarion back I feel like he would've already found him. I mean Cazador sends Astarion's siblings after him just a day after you talk to Petras and Dal in the city. He either no longer cares, relishes in knowing Astarion will live the rest of his life in fear of him, or he still believes Astarion will return to him one day because it's "all he knows". I imagine that to immortals 6 months don't feel nearly as long as they do for us.

@MrButtonz I'm with you buddy, I forgot to do shadowheart's quest on my first playthrough and that's the run I looked at the new epilogue on. Hers isn't quite as sad as Astarion's but man I felt guilty lol. Thanks for uploading!
Why would you not kill Cazador though? This is such a depressing ending for Astarion, he can’t go outside (though he can’t in other spawn version either), but he is now back to having to live in fear for his life and starving again.
I think it’s implying that Cazador has to physically speak to him in order to reestablish his commands. Not sure if it’s a retcon, but I guess it makes sense. He’d have to obey if Cazador found him though, so he’s living on borrowed time.
Yes, although I've only seen it in datamined dialogue. If you romance Astarion but don't kill Cazador, after the final battle you get a small cutscene where you can make it your mission to help him kill Cazador. In the epilogue, he has a line about how his "partner had to rip out Cazador's tongue so (Astarion) couldn't be compelled to obey, and then the two of them killed Cazador". However, I'm not sure how it's triggered (or if it's voiced) because a romanced Astarion doesn't recap the last six months with the player. His dialogue is pretty sparse if he's romanced.

It depends what you said you would do, but if you promised to help him find a cure it says you were adventuring together and he is happy. And you get a second Astarion hug. Its so wholesome, this is such a different hug then his first one in act 2

I didn’t either but I guess it makes sense. Unlike the other party members his story doesn’t really tie into the main plot at all.

Some of the other dialogue options (not shown in this video) are a LOT worse and reveal he is heavily fronting/keeping things light here.
