This is such a carefully constructed track. I know it doesn't sound like it, but it actually NEVER goes off beat. I timed it. It doesn't keep the same timing throughout, but it never misses a beat.
Yes! This was really something else at the Barbican. So evocative. 'We'll take it - but we don't even know what the price is'. I wonder if the applause is one of the reasons they decided to upload the video here.
I don’t think so, the preorder of the “We’ll Take It” 12 inch has been up for a month or so now, it’s the new single, but i’m sure that it made him even happier with his choice! I really hope to see some footage of that. This is my favorite song off of the album. EDIT: We’ll take it! We don’t even know what the price is! is exactly whatI said to myself when I seen this new 12 inch up for grabs :P
When I see the visuals, I'm guessing this is a song about the madness of debt. We'll take it, get chained to our possessions, then twist and wrestle when faced with a conscience conflict over the loss of freedom when burdened with these things. New house, new car, new piano: take your pick from the trough.
Boyce work is the reflection of our time, speed and anxiety are the components of today's society, I think that mixed with the art of Lopatin, we have the reflection of our face in the mirror, so says Borges in the Poetic Art , this is how a masterpiece is defined, this is a masterpiece.
As always you never disappoint with your visuals! I dream to someday have access to more than found footage to see how far I can take it. You are a big inspiration!
Such strange and discordant images. There are so many flashes of things some sliver of my memory is able to associate with running through the backgrounds, and yet... I consciously recognize none of it. There’s a lot to pick apart in this video, I’m going to have to watch it a few times. This is one of my favorite songs on Age Of. Visuals fit the song well, as unsettling as they are.
"have you come up with a new sales tactic yet?" -Well, I left a bunch of Datura soaking in Absynthe for a couple days on this sprayer bottle so we could spray whoever comes through that door.
I feel like this has to have a deeper meaning than just "bad CGI + weird shit happening", but I have no idea what that deeper meaning could be. Any ideas?
Well first off, it’s not bad CGI, it’s just CGI, your perception of it is what causes it to seem bad to you. To be honest it’s pretty imp[ressive CGI. It’s SO much harder to make strange amorphous shapes such as these han int is to make a normal symmetrical model. The video is a hyper-stylized psychedelic horror version of blind masturbatory consumerism. Things look ugly because the trait itself is inherently ugly and uneven. This is obviously the overall theme of the song, as well as fitting into the idea of Age of Excess. Hope this helps you enjoy the video and song on a deeper level friend.
I think with the bad cgi it's also meant to be kind of nostalgic and reference animated films and old games with low quality models from like the 90s-2000s, and then the way the models are all distorted and stuff in the video is to play with our nostalgia and be unsettling and terrifying by violating it and turning it so ugly
All of 0PN's music deals in some way with the past and with how memory can haunt you. Distorted and fucked up images that distantly recall a nightmare version of your childhood have been present in his work for years. This song in particular deals with the mistakes being made by humanity in general. The way we've already destroyed the planet beyond repair. We are going to face mass global starvation within generations. At the time, everything seemed so abundant. It seemed so easy to say "We'll take it"...
The first 2 minutes are so funny to me, it feels like it's making fun of something I'm completely ignorant of, yet I still roll with it. ...theeen it gets all fucked up
This song hits so hard live. The bass isn’t so prominent here but it was absolutely face melting-ly heavy live
Agreed. One of the highlights of the show.
That's how i discovered it too. Mind-blowing.

What i love about opn is that if you find a new song from him you have no idea what its going to sound like at all
There are so many good, small melodies in this. I love how they all build up together toward the climax when the final synth melody kicks in.
how goods the delayed piano at 3:00

Shout to all the Barbican audience who applauded for a good 3 minutes after this track.
Daniel also commented, 'The label is taking notes'...😎😎😎
I can only imagine.

Me: its complicated....

Incredible. Somehow after all these years I still never have any idea what to expect from an OPN music video, and I'm still always impressed
This is the sequel to "The Great Mouse Detective" we never expected nor asked for.
Thia is what they show you in that room with the eyelid spacers on, on a small cubed shaped tv, strapped to a chair

This feels like a early 2000’s video from a animation compilation.
This makes me wanna do something that I personally dont think is possible until I do it
I'm so happy to wake up to two new OPN videos. This is visually so perfect.
this is the most opn video to exist thus far, definitely my favorite
Yo I love this sound & aesthetic - reminds me of Kaoss Edge ~ !
I think it’s the same designers
This is anxiety inducing-in a good way.
Definitely my favorite OPN music video ever. I didn’t think he’d top Black Snow.
When I watch this video it is always a total different one

Hey Patryk ! Fancy seeing you here : )
They want to sell me their cars and they will do anyhthing to achieve it, they did it once and they will do it again
Hearing what happens at 2:42 live was a truly life-affirming moment.
I'm gonna start randomly showing this song/video to 'normal people' with no context and see how many brains I can melt

So, I cannot place exactly how this video affected me, but it slapped the shit out of my inner child. 10/10, will probably not watch again.
100 Gecs sampled this in their newest single. You can hear the ummm... Horn-like noise in this song in that song at 2:29
Yep. A very accurate representation of my brain and how it feels today.
"have you come up with a new sales tactic yet?"
