Yes dude! I remember when I first played this album on my car stereo I had it cranked up really loud, it was booming out of four speakers all around me, it was like being inside the stereo. I had never understood why NIN was touring with Soundgarden until I saw a video of Dan playing this track on that tour. Trent Reznor strategically had OPN to open to a whole bunch of Soundgarden fans that would no doubt be confused and irritated by this music. That is fucking hilarious.
You know a song is going to be good when... 1. The "video" isn't really a video 2. The artist describes the music as being "what happens when you drink 20 Mountain Dew"
I hear a lot of Aphex Twin in this, the glitch, anxious rhythms, and wild disorientation is there, and I also hear a very deep and careful degree of harmonic intent in OPN's music, which is what sets him above others. Take 3:58-4:46 for instance which is a beautiful section that evokes heavy emotion and uplifting awe. I'm obsessed with this progression, it's defining, and I keep repeating it on a piano, which is where its beauty resonates. The piano is where I always go back to when I want to find these 'moments' in music that I wish could last a lifetime. This brings me back to Lopatin's interest in that "majestic moment of suspended beauty", those momentary events in time, which i believe he found solace in 'Eccojams'. It's always a personal one, and the moment for me in Mutant Standard is 3:58-4:46. If music was the key to unlocking the secrets of the universe, then OPN's music is like looking through that keyhole.
sad, but the amount of sonic moves he comes up with just within this piece is absolutely sufficient to constitute a lp for the most of electronic artists
I'm just gonna start off by doing some stupid stuff because that's what I do, it's in me, my blood I've got a little black mark right there That's nasty...but I'm not nasty Are you sure about that? Yeah That's how he rolls So, follow me I'll start by knocking on these people's windows This is not my house, this is somebody else's C'mon It's starting, get ready Hey! Oh yeah? Hey! Hi!
This is nice. A definite super Lopatin track. When I heard the first track from Garden of delete, i thought Mr Lopatin is treading a backward path. But now my standing is firm, new OPN is a message from future!
+Purla "Different" is not always "backwards". I know what you mean, I was kind of disappointed by 'I Bite Through It' too, but simply because it was not what I expected from OPN. But on listening to it a number of times, I realised that wasn't a bad thing. He's doing what he does best - experimenting. With different sounds, styles and genres. I mean, look at the difference between 'Returnal', 'R Plus 7' and this... It's phenomenal. It's also a big part of the reason I love OPN's music. It never feels stale and it's an ever-evolving entity.
+Purla as much as I like R plus 7 and Replica, I think I Bite Through It is one of his best songs ever. I love his past styles, but his move into a more noisey and melodically coherent piece was just beautiful. Remember, artists have to change in ways to not be redundant and progress... I think he's doing a great job with that.
revisiting after 13 months and it is still a certified banger 🔥 like i constantly play music in the back of my head and the drop has always played during good memories which makes this song even better
Such a contrast than an artist can release a track like this, and have I Bite Through It on the same album. His music is always so contrasted, yet it fits really well in the context of an album.
i need help bc im going insane. There's kinda two parts to this but I have been searching for years for this album my dad had a cd of when I was a kid that I feel like I must have imagined at this point. if anyone knows the name of the subgenre of electronic music that sounds like what starts at 3:58, I'm going crazy trying to remember it. The album was that genre and I remember the cover had a rainbow background and this like crocheted toy frog. Please tell me someone else knows what I'm talking about
Just imagine your inside a spaceship cruising through the stars, then at 5:12 , all of a sudden your going through hyper speed, the speed of light traveling faster than the speed of a black hole and your passing tons of galaxies and universes and your going so fucking fast you can't see what's in front of you , all u can see is back of you
+cooldude1867 It's gonna be cool to hear how the MIDIs play into the album itself. Hopefully it'll have as huge of a "wow" factor as the bit in this song did.
