Toronto's Blizzard of 1999

A blizzard in January 1999 dumped 118 cm of snow on Toronto, effectively bringing the city to a standstill. Mayor Mel Lastman called on the army to help shovel the snow, and to use their equipment to augment police and emergency services. Other parts of the country ridiculed Toronto and its mayor. However the city was already effectively closed, and more snow was forecast.

I know the rest of Canada laughed at us, but people forgot that we got three snow storms back to back. The first dumped about 30 cm, the second one another 45 cm, and the last one about 25 cm. I remember the wind blowing something fierce that you could barely see. Even the bus shelters were completely buried.

i remember this. i was a kid at the time. me and my school were at camp Kearney back in 99' and we couldn't even come back home to Toronto cause there was so much snow. we got to stay an extra day at Kearney tho. good times.

The giant mountain of snow that took 2 years to melt at vp and gerrard. The following summer with the snow melting mixed with the dirt created giant mud pits some as deep as 8 feet . I was only 14 at the time but remember it like it was yesterday. The area is all filled in with beautiful mother nature now. But it was so dangerous for the fact if you fell in and didnt know what you were doing or didnt have a friend with you to help you people could have lost there lives.

Wish I was around to see this! but damn proud of our men and women in uniform I wish Canada still have at least 100k strong active force the APCs make it look like Russia xD
