    I did a reinstall of Windows then installed MSFS. All my controller presets from my previous MSFS install were present, so it looks to me that they’re stored in the cloud. Thanks for all your great content. Keep it coming!

    It seems to me that absolutely anything having to do with MSFS 2020 is overly complicated. While I very much appreciate your video, it's mostly Greek to me. I'm 78 yrs old and a couple of years ago I thought that I had pretty much kept up with the increasingly complex issues with Flight Simulator. I now realize that I don't have a damn clue. My copy of MSFS 2020 is, at the moment, useless. I definitely need to uninstall and reinstall from the microsoft store but it seems my copy is seriously corrupted. Asobo really needs to address the update issues. None of us should have to experience the frustration that seems to be inherent in the app.

      AND HOW!! Boy, do I agree with this. After this latest mandatory update, I have only intermittent Internet connection; then during take off the throttle goes to zero no matter what i do the plane crashes. I do not know how to check whether I need to reinstall Win10. Or reinstall the entire msfs2020 package. Microsoft should issue an official document "How to reinstall Win10 and MSFS2020." Does the general public realize what a total, abysmal, failure MSFS2020 has been for many of us? Probably not. So MSFT continues to ignore us.

      It’s really not all that complicated once you have it running… it isn’t very clear about how to uninstall it but hopefully that’s not something that needs to be done often. I do wish they would find a way to reduce the installation size after installation, that’s the most annoying part.

      I completely hear you, fishman211. After over a decade tweaking, installing, and tweaking some more with FSX, I finally had the thing running as perfectly as I could. I understood how the simulator reacted with third party add-ons. I was the one making changes to the sim. Now there's a completely different mindset. Of course, it's all about money. MS doesn't want to leave a dime on the table if they can put it in their pocket. Gates was not happy seeing how everyone else was making good money off "his"software. This new approach is designed for making sure he got his cut. Plain and simple. I'm not a "gamer", I never will be. (Although, I will admit having a bit of an obsession with Tetris and Mario Brothers on Nintendo 64 back in the '90s.) Gaming is too juvenile for me. But a good flight sim develops real-world, entertainment and education, not a fantasy designed to pollute the minds of our youth. It was the stunning, real-world visuals that enticed me to try MSFS 2020. I'm going to keep at it until they get it right, or I do. I will always have my trusty FSX sitting on my SSD, waiting for my return. I fear for the well-being of my grandchildren. And, GET OFF MY LAWN !!!

    I did a fresh install as well with the latest update. One thing I would mention to folks considering this...if you've saved custom cameras for some or all of the planes you fly frequently I would definitely backup the cameras folder first at ...\Users\XXXX\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\SimObjects\Airplanes. I forgot this one and it was real pain to go back and recreate all of them. Now it's on my list of folders to back up periodically just in case. Happy flying!

    Regarding FPS, _you_ might not need it, but we’re not all wired the same and low FPS does make some people legitimately nauseous, I used to believe everyone got migraines and felt sick from gaming until I chased framerate, now those days are in the past, I can blow a weekend in any game and be as fresh as a daisy now, unless I play a game locked at 30, and if I do, I can feel the migraine starting within an hour, like the old days!
    I’ll also add that part of chasing FPS is eliminating macro and micro stutters. in fact, it’s where you start and you don’t try to improve the number of frames per second until they are eliminated entirely. Most people happily stop there. I defy anyone to enjoy the game just as much with macro stutters periodically, as without, quite simply if you claim it, I wouldn’t believe you.
    The biggest problem I find is most people just try to brute force it with expensive graphics cards and wonder why they don’t get crisp smooth visuals. Expensive gear is for higher fidelity, not smooth frames. I get 120 in msfs with a 2080. Not even the super. All cards can be smooth, within their capabilities. Do I have chimneys showing on houses in the distance? No. But I value smoothness and lack of migraines more than graphics.

As the uninstall, reinstall and file placements on the Steam version are completely different!! Thanks for doing the video for those who don’t have the Steam version of MSFS2020!!

    After Sim Update 10 I had major performance issues in VR. I tried all the fix videos I could find and nothing worked. Along came Sim Update 11 and no improvement. In the end I tried the uninstall and reinstall. Fixed it! Clearly the update process isn't always very clean. I'm an IT consultant so I'd spot if I'd done something wrong, so clearly this was Microsoft bugs under the hood with the updater. However it was worth it, I'm now enjoying DLSS in VR immensely, it's like a new sim all over again. Thanks OverKill! They just need to sort out the damn A310, it's completely unstable.

    Additionally, I always kill the oculus apps before I launch. I haven't tried renaming that one yet (steamVR rename helped), but that running while i'm doing a screen flight was killing it. Another video I watched: he turned his screen refresh rate to 60mhz and turned on low latency mode in nvidia control panel. In MSFS, he put v-sync on at 30fps and wow. That did wonders for mine as well, never seen it look so good between that trick and disabling steamVR. Cheers!

    I purchased a new 1Tb NVME just for MSFS. After the first installation, which I purchased from the store, I had all kinds of problems, especially when attempting to add third party addons. I had two sets of community folders and store folders. Neither was compatible with the other. So, my plan now is to format the NVME and start over again. One thing I've noticed, when MS does an update, they quite often rearrange the file structure and content. This makes watching a video from 2020 or 2021 quite confusing when you've got a 2022 version installed on your computer. So, watcher beware. I wish MS had made MSFS 2020 available as a stand-alone product, instead of integrating it into their "gaming" universe. A true flight simulator should never be confused with a "game". There's a whole lot of "MANDATORY" going on in the world today. FSX and P3D never had "mandatory". YOU could decide how to modify your sim.

Now how I know this is because when I setup on my second machine (for the first time on a new NVME.2) It gave me an option if I wanted to use settings from system x on system y. Tonight did a complete uninstall as you did here, deleted everything. Reinstall went good. Loads in really fast without anything in community folder. @@MattR336 I use the AMD Ryzen Balanced setting. Then I just tweak some of the power and visual setting manually. I actually disable quite a few things on my computer. As for Ryzen Master and other such utilities I normally don't use them. I find it is normally just as easy and works better to make any changes like that in the Bios instead. And over clocking the Ryzen cpu's really isn't worth the effort unless you have a specific use case that it would help. PBO works just fine for me. I do have tweaked PBO settings though. My PBO is tweaked to boost as high as it possibly can. Personally I still think the 2700 is a great cpu for the money, especially if you can find a deal on one. My 3900x is way overkill for anything I am doing with my computer (and it gets much hotter). I used to have a 3600 and it worked just fine. I would have been just as happy with a 2700x too. Just look on youtube or google for some tweaking guides for the Ryzen cpu's. There are some good ones out there. Anything that will work on the 3600 or whatever should work fine with the 2700x as well. And any settings really need to be tested to see what they do for you. Like game mode and different games and what not. It could be different for each system. Many say Game Mode should be off but on my system it was actually better with it on. Tweak, test, tweak.

    I don't think motion blur is popular with "any gamers" That's the first thing I turn off. Your eyes will provide all the motion blur it needs to. Doesn't have to be simulated. Lense flare? again, not needed unless you want to simulate that your looking through a camera whilst simming, because it's only an effect you would see from a camera lense and who flies with a camera stuck to their face for the majority of their flight. Depth of field also is questionable as it's just a fake eye focus implementation. Again let your real eyes do the focusing. And all this fluff takes fps away from the sim.

  • @afpwebworks

    The human eye doesn’t view at 60fps anyway. Even Cinemascope doesn’t run at 60fps. The human eye resolves 25 FPS. If that’s the case, isn’t more than that just wasted energy? Perhaps someone with better biological knowledge than me can confirm this ( or otherwise )

    • @afpwebworks
      @afpwebworks 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@hdvrNG I bow to your knowledge, N G> I"ve never had 140fps on my screen so you have me at a disadvantage. I wonder how the eye sees a difference then, since it's only clocking new images at 25fps? OR maybe I have that aspect wrong.

    • @biteme263
      @biteme263 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      That isn't how that works Mike. I think you might have it reversed, but it is a common misconception and theory people like to put out there. The eye, or actually the brain can detect frames far higher than 60 fps. I will give you an example. Have you ever seen a new high def tv with True Motion or whatever they want to call it turned on? Or went to an electronics store and seen the tvs that have amazing detail. You know where you look at it and everything is super crisp, life like and almost 3d looking. Or it looks like video instead of film? Many call it the "soap opera effect". They try to make it seem like its the resolution of the tv that makes it look like that but it really isn't. What the tv is doing is increasing the frames. Rather than displaying the image at 30 or 60 frames it doubles or tripples it so in some cases you are seeing 240 or so frames. So the human eye can detect far more than 25 fps. This is why when 720p 60hz tv's came out they looked so good.
      I think where people get confused is that 24 fps is around the point where its fast enough to trick the brain into believing it is seeing smooth motion. This is why that is the standard motion pictures were filmed in. It was the least amount of film they could use and it still looked smooth and realistic. If it gets slower than that there isn't enough information for the brain to fill in the gaps and it starts to stutter or look like a slide show. And over the years our brains have learned that 24, 30 and 60 fps look normal because we have programmed them that way. I am quite sure 20 year or so from now if you show a kid a film that was shot at 24 fps they will say it doesn't look right because they are simply just not used to seeing it.
      Another thing to consider is that FPS isn't the only thing going on here. There is also the refresh rate of the display. The fps has to be the same or a multiple of the refresh rate for it to look good. If it doesn't then there will be gaps and it won't look right. This is what causes screen tear or other motion artifacts when playing games. This is why in a lot of cases you can't video a tv with a camera without it looking all messed up in the play back. The refresh rate was not in sync with the fps it was being captured with. So lets say you have a 60 hz refresh rate monitor. If you want it to look smooth the fps needs to be 30, 60, 120 hertz and so on. If you are looking at something that is 45 hertz or 150 or whatever it won't look right. Especially if you are moving your camera around. And if its jumping around constantly from 40 to 160 or something it can be even worse. This is what Vsync and Gsync were designed to solve.
      And there are many movies and tv shows currently being shot at frame rates that are 60 and above. Especially action movies. It is mostly going to boil down to the artistic choice the director wants to make. Or the target audience. If they want a more film like look they will go with 24 frames. If they want a more life like, gritty, action or high tech look they might go with something faster. It might even change depending on the scenes they are shooting.

    The Game is the same size if you install the latest version. The files are compressed and then uncompressed. Waste of time installing it again, and BTW, the community folder should be emptied prior to any update.

      There have been times where a singular program install has caused me to reformat my Windows drive, because whatever the software did, it broke windows and no amount of troubleshooting resolved the issue.
      My PC is strictly for gaming and I have a custom Windows ISO anyway, so a reformat simply takes about 30minutes start to finish.
      Now if only Microsoft wouldn’t lock down their apps install folder I can actually consolidate my programs to one mass storage drive without having to reinstall some Windows apps/games because windows refuses to use an existing directory they were originally installed in, just a different drive letter
