This video was made to show at the Pahoa Transfer Station for schoolchildren visiting to see the new lava flows. It gives a brief history of what happened up though November 2014.

Lava will burn the metal fence but not the thin metal roof of the house? I don't think volcanoes are real, that is not how a molten substance would behave.
I live in PahOa & live few miles away from it & seen it flowing down the road & the dump area watching it from Bay Clinic in PahOa! Our people are good, yah...thinking ahead of time! I can get an idea of size, speed, the rain interaction, the inevitability and straight up luck of different structures. Many videos switch perception or directions so fast you can never really get an idea of the actual speed. This was great. Watching it again so I can show husband.
This is basically the most laid-back and mellow natural disaster ever. You'd half expect the lava flow to wear a floral-print shirt and hold a tall glass full of something colorful and alcoholic with a paper umbrella stuck in it.
That stuff was the best, unfortunately they discontinued it because of a " safety hazard " its not even spicy after the first couple dips. Probably because your tongue is gone by then.

That's because there are different kind of lava's and explosions. A vulcano eruption can be explosive (when water or gas mixes with the magma in the magmachamber) but it can alsi be very 'calm'. Lava can be very fluid and 'quick' while it can also be rather thick like in this video
Very impressive! Never saw lava that close before...Actually, that even reaches human communities! In Costa Rica we do have three volcanoes erupting at the moment, but the one that spewed lava on its hills, Arenal Volcano, went to sleep. Never been to Hawaii, but now I see something interesting to visit if live gives me the chance to go there. Regards from the Republic of Costa Rica.
