    One thing worth mention- they are extremely aggressive to same specie. Keeping them with other cichlids like coptodons, oreochromis or even CA cichlids is not difficult, but two males in one tank will end up as one male in a tank.

    • @dmoore0079

      Good to know. I was wondering how they'd behave with some of the 10-12" CA/SA species. They would look really interesting with Jack Dempseys or Green Terror

      @@dmoore0079 giving some update after 6 months- yes, basically even other african cichlids like oreochromis go really bad with them, as for ca- basically they don't recognize eachother, as polleni seems to be the prettiest fish in my tank after 6 months i rehomed every african cichlid and keep my polleni pair with oscars and red terror

    My ones love a cave which is pitch black where the light does not reach and they can hide entirely in it. It helps to know when they are awake as well. My male also is very picky but I know when to feed him because he leave his cave and stares at me. Thanks for the video! Fish look great.

    How soon before you can distinguish the males from the females?

    • @Riffwaters
      @Riffwaters  ปีที่แล้ว

      It's hard to sex them even when mature. A strong nuchal hump is a tell-tale sign of a male, but a fish without a hump could be either a female or a young/subdominant male. The only way to be certain is to observe them while breeding.

      @@Cichlid_4_everyea they're stunning fish. I'd recommend a 75g long-term, even if only keeping one. The 55g is too narrow in my opinion. Would be tough for them to turn around, even a smaller female.

      Yes! I kept my male Polleni with African Peacocks and Mbunas for about 2 years with no problems. But I've never kept the male-female pair together with other fish, so I can't say how a mated pair would behave with Peacocks.

    • @Riffwaters
      @Riffwaters  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ya know, I don't think I'd recommend that. I've kept these with groups of African cichlids, but I suspect if it were with another singular, large fish, that one would kill the other. If you end up trying it though, let me know how it goes. Would be interesting to learn.

    • @tabarakaquatics8067
      @tabarakaquatics8067 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ve kept a bleekeri, a Polleni, a Cuban, a pair of jags , red pikes, Zebrina pike, lenticulata pike all together. Ultimately it was the bleekeri that harassed the Polleni to death. The Cuban was more preoccupied with the jags.

    • @Riffwaters

      I wouldn't say the male is morr aggressive at eating; he never prevents the female from getting food. Though he does come to the surface for food whereas the female stays lower.
