I would want these mounded higher on the machine.. with a 10 and 8 yr old I would be afraid someone would look over the top and into the laser

I had a similar concern. Apparently the manufacturer of these Alien Lasers, SXSUSA, did their homework and the product passes FAA requirements.

I believe their website has the information you seek. Long story short, it is a laser light source but it is filtered through some lenses that make the output much like and LED.
