Yeah, the Mighty Nein are a magic-heavy bunch. Vox Machina had a lot of magic users too, but relied more on physical damage most of the time, with magic enhancing the attacks. Stripped of their magic, Mighty Nein basically has Veth with the crossbow, Beau with her staff, Fjord with his falchion, Yasha with her sword and that's about it. God, this was such a stressful episode to watch live. Especially because in the middle of the second fight, I had to leave and take the dog for a walk. So glad that I came back just in time to see the end of it.
THIS WAS WORTH THE WAIT!......very impressed you distilled a 5+ hour gaming session with two battles, one with a female Ancient Dragon and the other with the Tombtakers and TM9 barely escaping the second encounter by the thinnest of margins. My own favorite moment was Ashley producing a lance out of nowhere and then scrambling to throw thermite grenades....right through Ashley saying "I summoned this bitch, we gonna end her!" Well done and good scene choices. You capture the essence of the crazy episode that everyone online could not stop watching and freaking out near the end, muttering "Oh no! tpk! TPK! ARRGHH!"
thank you for your sacrifice making this - it's a wonderful way to relive the stress that was THAT EPISODE without watching all five hours of it. also your editing is wonderful and it's a lovely way to observe everyone's individual reactions :D
49:48 Man... this was a real gut punch of a moment to watch live! Matt has broken down in laugher due to player actions and warned his players about their actions many times before but this was a real first in Critical Role history because well... I don't think even Matt had any idea what he was going to do next week if this episode ended in a TPK! This second encounter was incredibly well handled by both Matt & the players. Mechanically & narratively this episode was a CRITICAL SUCCESS! 🤣
The terrible feeling of not knowing wether Cad's magic was gone forever, and the fear that it could happen to someone else was so visible for laura and tal it made me genuinely anxious for the whole second half of the episode.
It's crazy how distrustful some of the party was of Marisha/Beau's play to save Tal/Cadeuces. As if she hasn't been clutch in the past and that as a monk she is the least affected by Lucien's abilities. Was it risky? Sure, but the casters were basically panicking when magic couldn't solve their problems and talking wasn't an option
All I can say is, this was awesome from a spectator's perspective! The fact that Ashley rolls an 8 on a d8 to kick-start this whole chain of events off, and just watching the move-countermove aspect of Matt and the CR PC cast was amazing to watch. And you know it was tense when the PCs were damn near at wit's end as they were racking their brains, trying to deal with an enemy who was able to cast Anti-Magic Cone, as well as an enemy that could deal Psychic damage. That is one hell of a fight, when the PC party walks away from the fight, but yet their enemies aren't defeated, let alone vanquished. And all because Ashley...rolled an 8.
It makes sense though. They had a previous encounter with this dragon already and she was actively hunting the party ever since and they were currently relatively close to where they had that encounter. It stands to reason that they could have stumbled across this dragon here far more likely than if they were at sea or wandering in the Empire.
“Matt, can you just change it to a boy?” “NO! She is the ‘Nightmare in Ivory’ and you RESPECT that!” XD I really appreciate Matt’s commitment to his character’s pronouns

My own favorite moment was Ashley producing a lance out of nowhere and then scrambling to throw thermite grenades....right through Ashley saying "I summoned this bitch, we gonna end her!" Well done and good scene choices. You capture the essence of the crazy episode that everyone online could not stop watching and freaking out near the end, muttering "Oh no! tpk! TPK! ARRGHH!"
Laura’s absolute child like cackle at Ashley saying “rub it off”, might be the best reaction she’s ever had to a dirty joke
14:51 "I'm trying to kill my wife but she keeps evading my AOEs"
If you think about it Ashley deciding to not use radiant soul in the fight against Gelidon saved their asses in the fight against the tombtakers
thank you for your sacrifice making this - it's a wonderful way to relive the stress that was THAT EPISODE without watching all five hours of it. also your editing is wonderful and it's a lovely way to observe everyone's individual reactions :D
thank you! that's my goal :)
22:36 Gelidon: "I wish I had somebody to care for me like that"
R.I.P Vorugal :(
"bad dreams, nothing but bad stuff happens in dreams"
campaign 3:
I'm just waiting for the day everybody comes in with a shirt depicting a different Sam face lol
AN HOUR LONG!!?!?!?
Thank you for your sacrifice 🙌
This episode was stressful. I was so anxious during this whole episode.
I might cried if any of M9 died.
Amen man, I was so tense watching the episode through several parts
I didn't think it was possible to love Ashley more...then 28:20
If the DM smiles and is happy after you roll, run!
The Butterfly effect has never had a better example for the archives. Amazing edit Marisha ❤
"I rolled this Dragon we're gonna END HER!"
Love you Ashley 😂
It's crazy how distrustful some of the party was of Marisha/Beau's play to save Tal/Cadeuces. As if she hasn't been clutch in the past and that as a monk she is the least affected by Lucien's abilities. Was it risky? Sure, but the casters were basically panicking when magic couldn't solve their problems and talking wasn't an option
This whole session is the definition of stress. Jeeesus!
This episode took years off of my life
I'd love to see a video montage of all the times Marisha and Ashley put a book on their heads (like in this thumbnail). 😆
The dodecaheal yourself works! they have seen so many Nat 20s this episode
It’s so weird to see the contrast of the smiles and joy in the first part descend into tension and fear in the next, D&D can be so wild 😱
Beau is literally the embodiment of sheer luck while she was on the dragon
47:39!!! I totally missed that lol... amazing
I still can't believe Matt put a boss monster like Ghaledon, on a fucking random encounter table.
It makes sense though. They had a previous encounter with this dragon already and she was actively hunting the party ever since and they were currently relatively close to where they had that encounter. It stands to reason that they could have stumbled across this dragon here far more likely than if they were at sea or wandering in the Empire.
Matt when he thinks he's playing with a room full of adults then is reminded who they are but he has to pretend to be an adult anyway.
“Matt, can you just change it to a boy?”
“NO! She is the ‘Nightmare in Ivory’ and you RESPECT that!”
XD I really appreciate Matt’s commitment to his character’s pronouns
and then at the end of the battle, Matt misgenders Gelidon when Marisha is freed from her.
@@lanteanboy No one is always flawless
@@malteborgmanm2626 Nathaniel nattwonty is perfect
@@lanteanboy So? Shit happens
I mean... it's not like that's a gendered title anyway... so like, I mean you _could_ change it...
9:39 The instant he says "Bad Dragon" and you can just see it on their faces that they know. XD
I can confidently day that travis was the mvp of this entire episode, even at the beginning with the eye stuff he was super into it 😂
So when Bells Hell's come up against a white dragon I bet it'll have a bloody handprint on its neck.
21:54 Ashley letting us know _exactly_ when this episode streamed.
22:05 When the CODzilla starts using her spell slots to _heal,_ you know it means something. I used to run a CODzilla back in 3.5, and I _never_ used any spell slots or channel divinities for healing. _Ever._ If it wasn't for buffing, it was for smiting.
"I summoned this bitch we're gonna END her" cracks me up everytime 😂
7:58
I love Ashley's sudden accent change when she says that.
"Hay-ow?"
I really hope someone has done art of blinded Caduseus plummeting to the ground while riding Caleb.
Veth trying to prove her point about being able to steal Fjord is one of the top things I want in CR. lol The very idea of Sam being weird af trying to flirt with Travis makes me wanna burst out with laughter!
rewatching this over a year later. this was amazing
Epic highlight effort! Needed this to be ready for this week :-)
17:11 tal really just went from dad mode to stfu real fast my god
This is super late and will be seen by no one but for those who do, Gelidon's three attacks against Beau at 22:46 did a total of 69 damage.
Nice

Sam's shirt is pov: you are one of Travis' die and you just landed a natural 20
Travis' gameplay has been super fun the past few weeks. Feels like a slight decent into madness, but I'm all here for it. LMAO.
The way i wanted so badly for Beau to use redirect projectiles to bury the skin gorger in Gelidons back😅
33:03 i love the way marisha and ashley collaborated on the “fucking bitches!” beauyasha is truly a power couple that finishes each others sentences 😭
