    Am a longtime Howard fan -- Letterman's show definitely introduced me to him, when I was a kid in Cleveland 30 years ago. You just never saw anything like that on TV/radio -- he just spoke straight, it was revolutionary! (And no one else could successfully copy that formula, because he's brilliantly funny.)

      Well stated. I knew who was, but could not get his show when I lived in Colorado. The first time I was actually able to hear him, I was on my way to California to visit my parents and the day of the O J verdict as I was coming out of the desert on I 91 I heard him. He was brilliant. I made it home just as the verdict was read.........I hadn't seen my parents in almost a year and I'm sitting in their driveway just so I could listen. His book was great, the movie hilarious. My Mom watched the movie with me and she just rolled with laughter.

    Used to work nights in the 80s and can remember watching this around 1am after work. Hilarious.

    I believe Howard received in '21 the most generous contract for any single performer in entertainment history. Before taxes he earns $100,000,000 annually for a 12 hr. work week w/ approx. 250 days off. Additionally, he is broadcasting from the home studio SIriusXM built for him in Palm Beach.

    Stern's success is primarily based on one main attribute, he wasn't full of BS. One of my biggest pet peeves has always been fake people. I think it's a huge turn off to people in general and they can spot someone who is authentic pretty quickly. Stern wasn't doing anything new, really, as far as being racy goes. He was probably doing more of it, but I feel the lack of BS was the key that made him stand out. Just my little opinion.

      Big-name comedians struggle to have one hour of good material. Howard spit out 3 or 4 hours a day, every day, year after year, a lot of which is hysterically funny. I'm not that big a fan, but his output, and the consistent quality of it, put him a class by himself. The man is funny as hell.

    I had been listening to Howard since he first started on wnew... Followed him to K-Rock.. what I love best about Howard was the skits he did.. out of the closet Stern.. the seance where he becomes Elvis... Ted the janitor.. just some of the greatest skits ever... Even when he called The bijou theater and then started making comedy about the message and the movies that were playing at the G*Y bijou theater

    Howard Stern: "I hate radio". Well his E! show was the best and he eventually went on to satellite where radio really paid, if you can call that radio.

  • @timburr4453
    @timburr4453 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    These were the good ol days of late night. Everyone would watch to see what would happen and talk about it the next day. Stern was extremely controversial...if you werent there it's kind of tough to explain. Sucks that late night has essentially died and lost all relevance. Too safe and political (one sided)

      I'm 40 and been a Howard Stern fan since his Channel 9 show in 1990. I got tired and started to listen to Opie & Anthony when Artie left. My best advise is Howard teaches you to be your own person with opinions. True Stern fans know this.

Damn 500 mill a year that's crazy crazy money to talk shit on the radio, but that's the American dream I guess. Why he deserves that is beyond me but what ever floats your boat.

      You have to be almost as old as Howard to know and appreciate his ongoing Soupy Sales jokes. I remember Soupy from the What's My Line TV show in the 60s. And have been a listener since 1989. So I recall Howard's Soupy bits...the I don't like...
      That is something I love about his show, the continuity, the reference jokes that long time listeners get.
