  • Here is Rubicon's very nice 28mm scale plastic Sherman tank.
This was a mostly simple and straight forward build. I show how I managed to use both turrets.

Though most people would not notice it (read: anyone who doesn't read way too much eastern front history), the Soviets actually used M4A2 Sherman hulls with updated welded front plates that look basically identical to the M4A3 hull from the front. The the M4A1 and M4A3 hulls use a petrol burning engine, while the Soviets used diesel and thus wanted the M4A2, which has a different engine and engine deck (differences only visible from above). The US Marines and the British also used the M4A2, as they both used diesel instead.

For the rear door you could glue some bits of plasticard, so it didn't"crash" on the interior . Interesting model .

the Brits definable used the lower velocity 75 gun both in Africa, Italy and in Normandy. They called it the Sherman V and later adapted a variant with the British 17pdr called the Sherman VC

I don't think any 105mm armed shermans were sent to the Soviet Union.

Have you ever done a damaged tank? You should make the Sherman with the dodgy turret gaps a damaged tank with a big hole on the side. Nice review, cheers!

Do you have any painting tutorials? There aren't a lot of will scale youtubers out there, and even less that show painting. In currently painting a Canadian army and am finding it difficult getting anything to reference.

The Soviet, just tend to paint a red star (I guess to differ from the allied star) on their lendlease material. I haven't heard of Soviets with 105mm gun Shermans. Also the Soviet used the diesel version of the Sherman, i'm not sure there are any visible difference? This mean you could use this kit both for soviet and US (and probably also UK forces) depend how you paint it.

    • @HerbertErpaderp
      @HerbertErpaderp  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

+ChairmanMjau Yup. As another commenter mentioned the main difference is the engine and different hatches and grilles on the engine deck. For someone like me it's close enough.
It doesn't seem like the soviet way to waste time and paint repainting lend lease tanks other than adding a red star and a slogan or two I guess.

This is the "now" discontinued Sherman Kit....BUT still a Good Video! IF you have this kit, the Hedgerow Cutter is standardize but a different version on the new Rubicon Kits! I like this one much better!
As far as casting... FYI The new Rubicon Sherman Kits have a slightly larger Hatches! Also, consider wearing some "cheap" disposable rubber gloves.
For a Great Sherman Webpage... Check out "Sherman Minutia Website" the.shadock.free.fr/sherman_minutia/index.html Disclaimer: I have NO Association with the website.... Just Great Info on the Sherman's (Large & Small hatchets) ENJOY!

    Cost of kit: $0
Cost of silicone mould and resin: >$0
Savings of casting vs buying a second kit: Outlier case, should not be counted.

I have a small issue with your disclaimer and I hope it will make sense to you so you can adjust it in the future.
Being entirely open about getting it free is fantastic and you should 100% do this and encourage others to do the same. The issue is where you claim you're going to judge it as you would any other kit. This is impossible to do, because the fact that you got it free, changes the value of the kit in your mind. Either you will undervalue it because it didn't cost you anything or you will over value it because it's a one time special thing that stands out to you. I understand what you're trying to say, but the way you phrase it is inaccurate. Just stating you got it free and you're going to give it a fair run down is enough, no need to make factually inaccurate statements about how you review it. Saying you got it free covers your ass and lets us know your opinion maybe tainted (for lack of a better word) and what that entails either way for us.
