- Severe flooding is wreaking havoc across central and eastern Europe, following days of torrential rain.
Floods triggered by exceptionally heavy rainfall in central Europe have caused at least 17 deaths across Poland, Austria, Romania and the Czech Republic, with southern Germany affected as well. The flooding is the worst some regions have seen in more than 20 years. Tens of thousands have been forced to flee the rising waters. The situation in many areas remains critical as more rivers burst their banks.
And while one part of Europe is under water, another is going up in flames. At least three people have died in wildfires across Portugal. More than a thousand firefighters in the central regions are racing to save homes from the blaze. More help has arrived from France, Greece and neighboring Spain.

I'm Portuguese, in our case the problem is not natural fires, but arson!
It's different for there to be a dry thunderstorm and the forest to catch fire than for a person to set the forest on fire. This is our real problem, the FIRE SET by people!
In the case of deaths, unfortunately only one was due to fire because the person in question went into the middle of the fire trying to recover belongings from the company he worked for, another was a firefighter who had a heart attack and the other was a heat stroke.
Real, well-made news should say all this.
A fire can start by arson but a mega fire is because of climate change. I'm speaking as a Greek where fires devastated our country. If we keep talking about conspiracies we will keep delaying the proper preparation for this new reality.
Some fires are definitely man made, but then the way we are now, end of summer, virtually no rain all summer, wind, everything is dry. That's climate. We can blame arson all we like and, sure, we must, now more than ever, come down hard on it, but neglecting climete change and fail to invest in aerial assets, more well funded profissional firefighters, better management will be tragic in the coming years. Only now we are equipping air force with heavy uh60 helicopters and the first two canadairs will be integrating air force assets. Too little too late.
They know it is arson.

In Portugal we don't call it climate change but fire mafia. Here we have too many interests profiting from arsoning, lithium, industries of paper and wood, construction... Not saying that climate change isn't real, but there are other factors to take into consideration

Let's not speculate without proof, because you may believe to climate change but here in Greece many don't and they believe the climate change is the excuse to empty the forests in order to install wind turbines and photovoltaics. It's about to get out of hand and see mobs breaking down these systems.

The same people who were completely denying climate change a few years ago now are adapting and simply saying that we as species have little impact on it and that this is just the earth and the sun going through their cycles, completely ignoring what scientists, who have dedicated their entire lives on research and who are standing on the shoulders of giants who lived before them, have been saying for years: the impact we have on the planet is great, we cut down more than 50% of the forests on earth, destroying entire ecosystems, we pollute the waters, the lands and the air with our everyday actions.
But we like to shift the blame on something or someone else all the time: it's corporates greed, it's other countries who pollute more, or media simply lying and there's no climate change, etc. Nobody has ever said "it's my fault", no one has ever taken responsibility, we are all at fault, we are a toll to the other species from the day we are born, and now to ourselves too
What can the average person do? Most of us take quick showers, use filtered water instead of buying bottled water, we recycle, we try to source local food instead of supporting the global supply chains, drive hybrid instead of diesel, we walk/bike instead of taking the car, especially in European cities. I stopped watering my garden, instead I try to add plants that are drought resistant. I buy clothes from natural fabrics instead of plastic stuff. It shows that the average person does in fact take responsibility. It's normal people out there building dams to stop the flood, voluntarily, no corporate donations were made to support this effort. No Corporate donations to the affected communities, it's just normal people helping other people. I believe we do not put ENOUGH blame of corporate greed, they should be held accountable.

But then you go out and look at McDonald's, and you see they are full of costumers
@@rozaliacucuiet3726 Unfortunately, on top of all that regular people do, they need to get involved in their local politics and push the issue. I have read stories, one in Germany as a matter of fact, of towns that have taken the burden on themselves and succeeded. So much so, that industry are knocking to see what they are doing. On top of that, not only locally, but by state/Region and nationally, the pressure needs to be put on. It's the masses that need to gather together to make the change or they will continue to become victims as we are seeing in not only this video, but in natural disasters around the world.
It's mega corporations that mostly pollute the world.

Climate change is here to stay. The earth energy imbalance is accelerating still - and all this extra trapped energy has to go somewhere! My hometown back in the plains south of the north-eastern India himalayas had the worst floods in living memory too last month. How long till we hold the corporations and tendency of human greed responsible? More importantly, how long can we turn towards a sustainable economy? Not too much if things keep getting worse the next year.

It is well known that fires in Portugal are of criminal origin. In my village alone fires started at the same time in different places 1 day after the other for like 3 days. Eventually a big one took off... The link to climate change at the end is a little off topic (note I am not denying climate change either).
In the US some of the wildfires may have been set by arsonists, or just careless people. Climate change just makes the conditions even worse.

Most wildfires throughout history have been manmade. Fires are more intense, spread faster, and are much easier to start. That is due to climate change as the brush is much drier and conditions, aka wildfire seasons last much, much longer.

This is the new normal now I guess. However, I think governments agree, to push the economy will be much more important than environmental subjects in the upcoming years. We need more industry, more airplanes in the air, more business, more. This is the good money. National buying force the bad one, because this would mean social wealth needs to be taken care of first. Green subjects are no good ones for just one election period, nothing a single individual could pride him/herself with. It’s kinda sad to look at all this knowing what’s gonna happen because… was it ever different.

There would be xxx bigger floods and 1000x more deaths... - There is +- 10-15 deaths + some missing people rn from +- xx xxx xxx affected people - majority of these deaths/missings are people which refused to be evacuated or simply got caught outside of home... There will be some rebuilding of some roads, bridges and homes... but luckily we build houses mainly from heavy materials like bricks and etc... So majority of houses should be alright after they dry up....
