Finally the Clutch ranking, one of the best bands working today. Over the years consistently great output from album to album not many bands can match. Also, no one can touch Neil Fallon as a songwriter and lyricist. Tough to rank their catalog as they don`t have a bad album but "Blast Tyrant" is probably my favorite - the double disc special edition of that is a must have. Their latest "Sunrise On Slaughter Beach" will definitely make my best of 2022 list.
💯💯💯💯💯
Re: Clutch live, another massive plus is that they change setlists from night to night. In my experience, bands who do that always attract a very dedicated following who will go to multiple shows hoping to hear their favorite songs or be there on the big night.
The best rock band of the past 25 years and I’m still shocked that they are not a household name. Like everyone says there is no such as a bad Clutch album, just varying degrees of greatness.
Never thought I would actually see a show on Clutch on this channel. Nice to see it!
Putting the self-titled at the bottom blows my mind. To each their own though, this discography is hard to mess with. Clutch are one of the greats.
That's what I thought. A total wtf...
Self titled and transnational speedway as last are both garbage opinions
@@wilfordbrimleypranks See, I have Transnational pretty low, because it's half-good. There are some BANGERS, and it's better than I remember it, but it's not as good as most of their other stuff after.
To put self titled at 13, or anywhere outside the top 5 is madness. Absolute madness.
Just started listening to them and I'm very impressed. Going to see them live soon.
Hall of Fame ....period
Clutch is different
There raw
In your face
Beyond talented
LOVE CLUTCH
One of my favourite bands in recent years.Saw for the first time last week. Amazing band.
Great show as always Pete, Martin, and Hack. Panel rankings are the best because you get varying level of history and listening experience from the members. It was great the new album was included. This helps you calibrate where to go in the catalog. I’m relatively new to this band. Loved the new release this year, but didn’t care much for 2018’s Book of Bad Decisions. I’m going to start with Psychic Warfare and Blast Tyrant as my dive into the catalog. Thanks to everyone for their lists and comments!
They are probably one of the most enjoyable rock bands with some brilliant laugh out loud lyrics at times. They are a prime example of a band where no member particularly stands out but each member fits in a niche and the whole band just gels really well. They have one of the most stable rock lineups maybe only ZZ top has been one unit longer than them and one can hear it in their music. There are times when I just listen to them nonstop.
My ranking would be
Earth rocker
Blast tyrant
Psychic warfare
Clutch
From Beale street to oblivion
Strange cousins from the west
Robot hive/Exodus
Sunrise at slaughter beach
Book of bad decisions
Pure rock fury
Elephant riders
Jam room
Transnational speedway league

* And a huge nod to 'Slow Hole To China' as it's fucken fantastic!
I could literally change my order almost completely by the time I've finished typing this!

TSL is the only one I don't listen to much anymore. My musical tastes have largely evolved in parallel with their own (and perhaps because of them).
@@adamlevine6700 You have self-titled and Elephant Riders ranked below Strange Cousins and Book of Bad Decisions, so I counter your "you're insane" accusation with a mature "No, YOU'RE insane"!
Seriously though, Clutch is my favourite band. They have zero bad albums so when I'm ranking them, the ones at the bottom of my list are only there because something has to be. You're right about Transnational being a bit of anomaly from where their sound went afterwards, but I still love it. And when they play songs like A Shogun Named Marcus and El Jefe Speaks live, they fit right in with everything else.
13 albums, three guys, 50 minutes. Thats how it's done. I only own seven Clutch albums, but my favorite from those is a toss up between Blast Tyrant and Earth Rocker.
Only? Haha.
The length of this show is Alo's dream, ha ha. Alo falling asleep before his turn on most HVS and then yelling at everyone to speed it up is one of my favorite things.
Thanks for this…with all the Music I consume I still have not checked these guys out. I worked with a younger guy who was high on them and I knew they were around awhile and I was just not sure where to go first with them. This leads me to where to start! ✌️
Ten months later… what’s the verdict?
Thanks for finally getting to Clutch, Pete. One of my favorites
These guys won me over in 98 when they opened for Megadeth and at time my musical taste were changing to 70s rock. Been hooked since.

02. Elephant Riders
01. Clutch/ ST
Went to H.S. in the D.C. Metro Area in their inception back in the early '90's and these guys were staples at the 9:30 Club, and Guitar Hack you need to have your ears hacked off.
Finally Clutch gets some much deserved attention! Great show guys!
I think Clutch have just gotten better and better with time. I’d rate my top three albums as:
1. Psychic Warfare
2. Earth Rocker
3. Blast Tyrant
A special mention also to the compilation album The Weathermaker Vault Series Vol. 1, just for their great version of Fortunate Son. Neil’s voice fits perfectly to that song.
I’m getting ready to go to Germany to see them back to back in Stuttgart and Frankfurt this week. It’ll be my nos. 4 and 5 out of 6 Clutch shows between August and Christmas, the final one will be in The Roundhouse in London in two weeks. They’re a great live band and always mix up the set list from show to show. Green Lung are the supporting act BTW.
Thanks for bringing me back to Clutch.. I"m a fair weather fan and didn't know they had a new album out till I listened to Red Alert thanks to Pete.. rock on!
I really dig Clutch. I don't listen to them as much as I should, because they do truly deserve more of my listening time. It's almost impossible to listen to Clutch without smiling....or headbanging. You don't typically find a band that is that heavy and yet at the same time that straight up fun. I think we should all listen to more Clutch!
Loved it! Cheers guys! & FWIW...

Thx a lot “ trio “. Another bang up job. Album rankings rule !! 👍💯
"Jesus on the dashboard oh yeah....whenever it feels right"!! "Dodge Swinger 1973"!! (from 1996)
Great stuff, fantastic band! Agree with Guitar Hack though about the early albums where they hadn't defined their sound and Neil's vocal style yet.
Thank goodness for Headbanger’s Ball back in the ‘90s introduced me to this band with the video to Marcus. Loved that song so my picks are skewed to the earlier albums

You're touched in the head for putting the debut above blast tyrant
Got into Clutch back in ‘97, so I’ve always been partial to that era. My top 3 are flexible, with Psychic Warfare being a latter-day masterpiece. Here’s my list:
13. Book of Bad Decisions
12. Sunrise on Slaughter Beach (might move up after more spins, but hasn’t really grabbed me yet)
11. Transnational Speedway League
10. From Beale Street To Oblivion
9. Strange Cousins From The West
8. Robot Hive/Exodus
7. Pure Rock Fury
6. Earth Rocker
5. Blast Tyrant
4. Jam Room (Original version, without the 3 demos wedged in there)
3. Clutch (The one that got me hooked. Could be #1 for nostalgia reasons)
2. Psychic Warfare
1. Elephant Riders
Clutch from 1995 would be higher ranked if you were listening to them way back then. When that album came out, Spacegrass blew our minds away. Big News 1 and 2 is classic high school sound track music for us 90's kids.
It's also the album where they (despite what these dudes say), 'figured it out' as a band, sonically, more or less vocally, and lyrically. They've evolved for sure, but Self Titled is such a pivot point for the band, and honestly 1 to the end, there's not a song you skip.
IMO
1. Psychic Warfare
2. Earth Rocker
3. Blast Tyrant
4. Clutch
5. Transnational Speedway League
6. The Elephant Riders
7. Sunrise on Slaughter Beach

Love this band, only seen them live once. Sorry to say their more recent output has disappointed a bit. But IMO their best record is Psychic Warfare, which considering how late in their career it was recorded is remarkable.

This was a really good listen, anda video I was looking forward to for a while. I've never actaully listened to a Clutch album in full, but have known about them since 1995. Saw them open for Iron maiden in 1999, on their first tour with Bruce back in the band, which was also my first time seeing maiden (I was nineteen). I thought they were definitely allright but, maybe, a bit too "simple" and bluesy for me at the time. i remember telling my friend that they made me think of Zeppelin. It was not really "their crowd" and everyone, including my buddy and I, were kind of just waiting for maiden. But I never forgot their level of energy and so every now and then I'd hear a song and kind of perk up. Also, one of my older coworkers used to complain bitterly about his step-son listening to them really loud, and would make fun of the vocalist's style and then burst into a coughing fit, which would crack me the hell up, every time.
...I've been Rockn' Clutch since 2020 ....late to the party but Holy Christ are they right in the Pocket....n ever disappoint

With regard to their live shows. Who needs gimmicks when the quality of the music is off the scale
They strive for excellence and deliver
Top 5 maybe in no order??? Earth Rocker(which really got me into them). From Beale Street to Oblivion. Robot Hive/Exodus. Blast Tyrant. And either Elephant Riders or Psychic Warfare. Clutch has that AC/DC, Motörhead quality where they have a sound that they slightly tweak yet u know what u r getting. Clutch rules.
👊🏿🤘🏿👊🏿🤘🏿
Anyone pick up on Sunrise On Slaughter Beach and Blue Oyster Cult Fire of Unknown Origin album connections??? 9 songs… sci-fi fantasy themes, odd sounds, of course album art, and possibly even the title with 4 words and possible play on words with on slaughter beach being a response or answering the of unknown origin title? Am I looking into this too much?
Yea, the similarity to BOC in subject matter and lyrics jumped out to me immediately.
I booked Clutch in Alberta after trying for years. What a show as a Fan and Promotor. My wife thinks I over play clutch haha

Clutch is there own genre of rock music. Clutch is Clutch
Wow. I listened to the 1st couple of songs on Blast tyrant. I am not a fan of heavy music but this rocks. I think the funk groove makes it palatable to me.
Heard Clutch for the very first time on "The Z Rock 50" (with Dave Bolt, who later became a christan & married his wife) in the Summer & Fall of 1996!! (counting down the "Top 50 Songs" of the week) Sunday Nights. Then on January of 1997, that radio show was no more. It was replaced by the radio show "Hard Drive".
Also Ward Cleaver (who sat in for Dave Bolt while on vacation) (NOT from "Leave It To Beaver" TV Show).
Great band. They tough to rank because the albums are all good and there's not a lot of distance between the top and the bottom. Whenever I pull out one I haven't heard in a bit I always think "I forgot how good this one is".
My favorites:
1) Clutch
2) Slow Hole To China
3) Elephant Riders
4) Jam Room
5) Blast Tyrant
6) From Beale Street To Oblivion
7) Robot Hive/Exodus
Very cool, great band! Since the term metal has been mentioned quite a few times in the video I would be very interested how you guys classify Clutch?
Jam Room is my favorite!
1. Elephant Riders
2. Blast Tyrant
3. Clutch (95)
4. Psychic Warfare
5. Robot Hive/ Exodus
6. Earth Rocker
7. Beale Street to Oblivion
8. Sunrise on Slaughter Beach
9. Pure Rock Fury
10. Transnational Speedway
11. Jam Room
12. Strange Cousins
13. Book of Bad Decisions
I came back to Clutch really late. I heard their first couple of albums in real time and they just weren't for me -- didn't like the hardcore edge, didn't love the singer's voice, hated the production. So I didn't listen to them again for a couple of decades. Hearing them mentioned on SoT a few years back got me to listen to some of their more recent albums (like, from the early 2000s forward), and finally I got it. I'm not really a super-heavy music guy, but there's something about Clutch that appeals to the Blue Oyster Cult fan in me. Glad I gave them another chance.
My favorite band along with Black Sabbath 🤘
*rival sons* can be seen as the rockstar version of the amazing *clutch* .
One of my favorite bands for more than 27 years now. Trying to rank these is pretty hard. My Top 2 are easy and the bottom 3 are pretty easy, but after that, it's a toss-up. I've seen them live nearly 30 times now and never a disappointment.
1. Clutch
2. Blast Tyrant
3. Earth Rocker
4. Psychic Warfare
5. The Elephant Riders
6. Sunrise on Slaughter Beach
7. Transnational Speedway League
8. From Beale Street to Oblivion
9. Robot Hive/Exodus
10. Strange Cousins From the West
11. Book of Bad Decisions
12. Jam Room
13. Pure Rock Fury
“Book of Bad Decisions”is a weird one for me. It really had to grow on me for me to kind of “get it.” There are some tracks on there that really pop, but they’re kind of covered up by a lack of good hooks. There are some really great moments on it at the same time! Even at a fairly weak point it’s honestly all good at the very least.
opps, forgot Slow Hole to China: Rare and Unreleased (2009) and Pitchfork & Lost Needles (2005). Many great songs the band plays live from these two albums.
I love all the Clutch stuff . Everyone likes different jams for different reasons . I know guys that like the earliest stuff best and guys that like the later stuff . I guess I'm in the middle....my top 3 in no order (all tied for 1st place , lol )
1. BLAST TYRANT
2 .ROBOT HIVE / EXODUS
3.FROM BEALE ST. to OBLIVION
Honorable Mentions :
*Slow Hole to China
*Elephant Riders
ALSO RANS :
* All the rest ! Clutch is an awesome , one of a kind band , with a wide range of unique sound . If you like Rock n Roll , you will like Clutch !
Great episode! Love this band. Thinking man's blues rock maybe? For sure a very cool band that know how to rock.
Yes !!! Discovered Clutch back in 2004. They really have not made a bad album let alone a bad song. Blast Tyrant is without a doubt their best.
What bands do you think sound like them or was highly influenced by them. I can't think of any off the top of my head. Maybe Orange Goblin.
That´s a cool awasome band. Almost as good as Monster Magnet.
Such a great band.
Way to chug the $15 beer, Pete!
My favorite one is still Clutch - Clutch. 🎉
For my money, one of the absolute best rock bands of the past quarter century. It’s really tough to rank their albums because they’ve been so consistently good. I think my personal top 5 would go: 1. Clutch 2. Elephant Riders 3. Blast Tyrant 4. Psychic Warfare 5. Robot Hive/Exodus
Slayer & Clutch. My 2 favorite bands. Clutch since 1994. I would have put Beale St. much higher (#2)...
Waiting for a Clutch book, Mr Popoff 😎
This strikes me as a band that is going to have a younger, better writer, get this done one day, and it'll be awesome.
I absolutely love Clutch, & are phenomenal live.
I first saw them live at Download festival & in my opinion they were better than the headline acts.
1. Tyrant
2 Exodus
3. Beale St.
4. ST
5. Elephant Riders
6. Slow Hole to China
ST getting too much hate on this ranking.
Clutch fan since buying Elephant Riders in late 90’s and then seeing them live first of 14 (I think) times since Feb 2001… Here are my rankings.
1. Clutch
2. Elephant Riders
3. Psychic Warfare
4. Blast Tyrant
5. Pure Rock Fury
6. From Beale Street to Oblivion
7. Sunrise on Slaughter Beach
8. Robot Hive/Exodus
9. Book of Bad Decisions
10. Earth Rocker
11. Strange Cousins
12. TNSLeague
13. Jam Room
Great list. Thanks!
Self titled being #13... this guy is nuts. Tell me you don't like Clutch without saying you don't like Clutch.
"Book of Bad Decisions" comes to mind
I love Clutch. (this goes without saying) They are hairy-balls-rock-and-roll. You can find everything in their music: Blues, Rock, Metal, Funk whatever. I guess this is the main reason they are not in the charts more often. They are a melting pot. Very American. You can find all kind of people at their concerts (big crowds). But they are not metal enough for metal charts and not blues enough for blues charts and so on. But more importantly they doesn't seem to give a fuck about it. And you have to love that attitude!
Sunrise on Slaughter Beach , Blast Tyrant , Earth Rocker And Psychic Warfare = No 1 spot
Everything else = No 2 spot
Because Clutch are that good …..not got a bad album 👍
I need to know when these guys heard the first clutch albums because if you wasn't listening to them around the early to middle nineties you will never have a good starting point on on the band to judge the catalogue
Not everyone jumps on board with a band from the very beginning, which is how it works with music. You are welcome to rank them as you like them, and this is how we rank them.
Hey you guys forgot Pitchforks & Lost Needles, Impetus and Slow Hole To China
The 12oz epilog might be shoots and ladders from Korn..same time period
It may not be an actual studio album but Pitchforks and Lost Needles is awesome music.
If I was leaving the planet and could only take 1 album... it would be Blast.
Watched some crowd fan footage of the Pantera tribute show in Mexico.. it actually was decent. The only song that was kinda rough was This Love
To my ears Clutch has never made a weak album, but Blast Tyrant and Earth Rockers are my numbers 1 & 2.
Been listening since the beginning, my favorite is ,robot hive exodus, 2 blast tyrant, 3 self titled, 4 earth rocker, 5 phycic warfare, 6 Beal Street, 7 Elephant riders, 8 debut, 9 stange cousins 10 slaughter Beach 11book of bad decisions 12 jamroom 13 pure rock fury my least favorite the only record I don't enjoy. 🤘 thanks for ranking the best band going since Sabbath is retired!
