Again, if this song doesn't make you want to get up and dance you must be dead. This is such a tight song, great vocals, great outfits, and the omnipresent late 70's choreography.

Not many remember nowadays that this song was associated with a suspense/thriller movie of the time that was called "Towering Inferno" a movie about a soaring high-rise sky scraper that ends up catching fire, so that concept was a thing back then since it was the 70's when we began to see gigantic towering skyscrapers being built in major cities all over the U.S. and was one of the signs of the new technological age that was upon us. Then a movie maker came up with the plot of what if.... one of these immense high rises were to catch fire and burn out of control (in similar fashion to what we saw happen on 9-11 but with fire rather than planes). The lyrics in the song make reference to it "100 stories high", that sure ain't referring to a Discotec ;) Listen carefully to the lyrics. That movie had a big impact. So this song is basically a combination of 2 o the most moving things going on during those few years, which was the release of the movie Towering Inferno and the cultural/musical/dance tsunami that was aflame in the U.S., none other than the Disco craze. Combine those two and the result is Disco Inferno! lf you haven't seen the movie Towering Inferno there are trailers for it uploaded on TH-cam. That movie was right up there with other suspense/thrillers of the time such as Jaws, The Andromeda Syndrome, and others that ingrained themselves in the culture of the time. What sent this legendary hit over the top was being included as part of the Saturday Night Live soundtrack, and the rest is history.

    The drummer is Earl Young.
'Young is seen as the inventor of the disco style of rock drumming and is often credited with popularizing four-on-the-floor bass drum beats, and as being the first drummer to make extensive and distinctive use of the hi-hat cymbal throughout the playing time of an R&B song. This led to DJs favoring his recordings because they could hear the cymbal quite easily in their headphones as they "cued up" records to be mixed.'

One story is that the song was inspired by someone watching the disaster movie Towering Inferno which was about a fire at a super skyscraper. Somewhere in the course of that movie, some people near the top of the skyscraper were told that the building was on fire and responded by just partying harder.

Back in the 70's there was a club opened in East St. Louis called "The Oz" It wasn't in the best neighborhood but it was a beautiful club with a huge dance floor. A bunch of my friends and I had been learning how to swing dance and disco music was perfect for it. Everybody got dressed to the nines and hit the dance floor. Those were some great times. You could not stay seated when Disco Inferno started to play.

There was a bar back where I grew up that I never went to except once and while I was there, they played this song on the stereo and OMG! the stereo system was honking and this song sounded just incredible. Never left the dance floor or sat down that night and I never went back again for some reason cause the night I went there, I totally enjoyed it. Thank you, Pump House Tavern for the great time. Thanks for your reaction, Jay.... I always like to watch your excitement. Take care and be well. Peace.

I was 11 when this song came out so yes the roller skating rinks had this blasting and everyone was out on the skating floor dancing to this song! One of the best memorable songs on that Saturday Night Fever Album! Peace! ✌☮

This song reminds me of being a kid in the 1970s. And my brother Dave. He was singing this in the kitchen once when my mother was cooking. My step-father touched the pan & got burned and my brother at the exact moment sang "Burn Baby Burn". He thought Dave was mocking him but he was doing his thing. It was so funny at the time. Great review Jayvee 👏🏼. Happy Easter 🐣

From someone who was into dance music from the get-go; this song was pretty much at the end of their hits. There is sooo much more and it begins in 1972 with "Love Epidemic" which is very relevant for today. It is a must reaction and there is an extended version on TH-cam that pushes it to a little over five minutes. Also on their first album, "Where Do We Go From Here" and "Stop and Think".By the way, I have all four of their albums; this was the first one. The next album featured "Zing Went The Strings Of My Heart" and "Hold Back The Night".Their third album which I consider their best, features; "Soul Searchin' Time", "That's Where The Happy People Go", and my favorite,"Hooked For Life". Then came the Disco Infernal album, with a 10:54 minute version of "Disco Inferno" and another notable song "Body Contact Contract". It would be great if you would react to more of their songs, especially "Hooked For Life". I hope this has been informative and gives you a little more background on the group. Thanks for the reactions; keep up the good work! Austin Watts
