Grevious needed to be a larger threat in this battle (says the backseat gamer) and the Clone Tank was huge in blocking several attacks. Chris also rolled really well all game, and that helps. gg Clones
Thanks. Yeah Grievous had to play a bigger role than he did, but I even if he survived long enough after the tank shot him at the start of turn five he would have only managed to kill off the Ph1 Clone Captain and gotten into that other big unit of Clones. So total kill count would have been R2, C3PO, a full unit of Clones, and part of another unit which would have been respectable but not enough like you said.
Really like how you handle errors within the game. That way no one can complain and shows you are developing as a player. Nice to see Chris is out of quarantine and that his dice rolls are still at full strength.
Lol! One of us was happy with those dice rolls, the other one not so much! Errors are normal in a game of this complexity. We miss some things, but always try to be upfront about it. Mr Corgi u sound so sad in this video 🥺, the dice were def against u. Think I would have ignored the tank and moved behind buildings on left and right. Grevious to destroy Rex and clones on right while being shielded by the building. The only problem like u said would have been panic. Thanks for another good vid.
You're welcome and thanks for the comment. I was not sad at all during the game; Chris is a great opponent and I love to play games with him. We do tease each other when the dice rolls go a little sideways but we both enjoy it. The other problem with Grievous going against Rex is it practically guarantees R2 achieves his secret mission which is tough to recover from in Repair the Vaporators mission.
I hope you are going to be putting a lot more of these out in the near future ,with quarantine in effect here watching these is a great source of entertainment seeing I cant go to the game store to roll some dice.
Thanks for the Bat rep! Love to see more of the clone wars factions making it to the channel. I haven't tried any Rex tanks lists yet since the tank hasn't made it to Canada yet, but it seems fun.
What if Tanks can destroy/remove small terrain. When they do this they treat it as difficult terrain reducing their speed. This would create an interesting dynamic of they can move thru more spots but remove cover for your troopers moving up behind it.
I love the idea Kyle. I would also be alright if the tanks had to roll against damage for destroying terrain as well, but one thing we know for certain is the new tanks are HUGE. We are going to have to make some adjustments on how we design our tables in the studio.
@@warcorgi3623 really looking forward to getting into it. Seems more tactical than 40k which has me super interested. Looking forward to watching the rest of your videos. Thanks for posting them.
Yeah my biggest misplay was leaving my B2s out of cover. I never saw the Clones coming back around the corner of that building and was focused on staying out of range from the Clones on my left flank instead. I don't think it would have saved those B2s, but it would have made my opponent's job a little tougher. Thanks for watching and commenting!
"Chris the Rule Whisperer" haha. Great game as always lads. Hope you can keep the battle reps coming with all the Covid-19 lock downs happening around the globe. Here in the UK we are on a 21 day lock down so we now can't play Legion and it's become difficult to film content. It will pass how ever and the show must go on. Keep safe guys and good luck in the weeks to come.
I've been looking to try Legion and these vids are interesting showing the game. Some things are a bit confusing on why something gets which token or dice, but i think that might become more clear when i read the main rules. I've watched a few of the learn to play tutorial type vids, but it would be great if they were titled as such or something along the lines. Corgi Academy LTP (learn to play) as a suggestion off the top of my head. Looking at some of the other vids it seems there is no issue playing across time lines Rebels vs clone troopers or the separatist type stuff. Not sure if my normal play group has touched Legion, but pretty sure several game stores do have people that play. For the tokens are those official from FF games or 3rd party/self made? Seeing only 2 games it seems vehicles are very powerful and the game is more geared towards smaller squad based fighting.
Shadeling Yes- vehicles are always strong units, but the game balances itself by vehicles very rarely being able to score objective points, and you can usually get 3 trooper units for the cost of one Heavy Vehicle :)
In addition to what Chris said, I will say the game play mechanics of Legion are some of the best out there for any tabletop miniatures game. After a single play through, everything will begin to click in place for you. On the other hand, the tactics are very nuanced and it will take a much longer time to master those. Those, along with awesome Star Wars miniatures, are the reasons I feel that this is the best game on the market right now.
I don’t think the droids are necessarily bad...the hitch with them is you either have to win with overwhelming numbers in one area or you have to use cover a lot. Personally I would’ve taken grievous and the b1’s up one flank so that they wouldn’t panic and slam the other side with the b2’s and the droidekas....though even that would be difficult with the tank in the middle. The tank saving really well was insane but I think if grievous had gotten his attacks on Rex the clone army would’ve collapsed without his bubble. In all honesty though I’ve never played with/against droids yet so I’m not sure. Incredibly well played on both sides, the clones just had the dice with them and sometimes it’s just better to be lucky than good lol.
Thanks for the comment. In this case Chris was both lucky and better than me. He used terrain much more effectively and managed his army quite well despite having them spread across the entirety of the board. I also don't think Droids are bad but I will have to improve my play with them if they are going to get a win on the channel anytime soon.
The more and more I see droids played, the more I'm surprised they actually released the faction like this. They just seem so obviously underpowered, what was FFG thinking? This game isn't an outlier. Most games I've seen with droids end like this with all the droids dead and most of the enemy faction still alive.
Thanks for the comment. It is a tough faction to play, but it is worth noting that LJ Pena managed to earn an invitation to Worlds 2020 using Droids at Warfaire Weekend in November. As more units become available, I think they will get easier for casual players to play with.
I think that's more due to overextending and over focusing on the tank which he really didn't have the resources to deal with effectively. Without seeing how the deployment was alternated it's hard to tell if he could have had better avenues for GG, but it looks like he might have had a free route behind the building R2 was behind to get into the tank and clone lines. He also might have went for the clones on the ambush, killed most of them, then followed up with TIYJA to disengage into the tank and might have taken it out. Impact 3 should get you 4 crits and pierce should get them to stick, then TIYJA puts another impact with maybe a crit. He probably dies to clones after, but takes the pressure off that flank with the vap. Leaving those B2s out to dry early on a tank dive also really hurt them, they would have been much better on a flank where their range 2 isn't as much of a downside.
Realize this is an old comment, and this could also be due to the quality of opposition but I generally win in my area with my CIS, or barely lose on objective while dominating on destroying my opponents army (had several victories where I've either wiped my opponent out or been close to)
Yea I haven't seen them win either. I think their troops are just sandbags, and their new additions such as commandos and AAT's are going to give the army the substance it needs. The droids are very cheap, so while their troops are ass, they have that going for them. Also the fact that they don't lose action economy due to suppression is good. My plan is to split fire and overwhelm my opponents army with suppression tokens and gimp him to 1 action/activation. And then use droideka to swamp an activated/suppressed unit causing it to flee. The poor man's way of getting kills.. haha. But of course that strategy will die in flames to big leadership bubbles/Vader. :/ What I would like is for the droids to be even cheaper, more numerous, and the ability to take additional troop choices. Then they might actually be good via virtue of weight of dice. But ATM the sad little all white dice, 8 man squads seem to be like pissing into the wind.
Hi Devon! I used Citadel Air Warboss Green for the rooftops. As for doing a painting video? I have done two in my life and wasn't happy about either one of them. That is not my strength so I am going to regrettably have to pass on that one.
I painted the components that came in my core set. I need to put a little more work into them but the hobby bench is getting a little backed up right now. I will say a little effort goes a long way on these parts.
What was the board size for this match? I'm trying to make my own wargaming board so I can play legion with my friends and would like to know what kind of size you used here
I never completely understood HQ uplink, I'm a newer player but having Grevious receive the Standing Orders and everything else activating realy confirmed my suspicions
It is the special ability for the Droids. They can pop HQ Uplink on a single unit then coordinate with another Droid unit within range one and so on down the line. The other three factions do not have this power, or at least in this extreme.
@@warcorgi3623 Oh I knew droids could do that, I really love the droid army for that but I just had suspected HQ Uplink allows more then the amount of units to receive an order from the command command card
HQ uplink is a comms upgrade. It allows the unit to "give an order to itself" during the order phase, allowing it to function autonomously for a turn even if it's far away from its commander. It's especially effective on droid troopers, because whenever they receive an order they have the ability to also give an order to another friendly droid trooper unit within range 1. So squad 1 gets an order, gives a free order to squad 2, who does the same to squad 3, etc... Down the line until all of your trooper squads have orders. HQ uplink can be used to start this "domino effect" when your commander is not in range or if there is too big of a gap in the chain somewhere.
I have not played with or against the CIS but they don't seem like the strongest faction. They're the tyranids of star wars but there's only so many units you can field with only 800 points. At least that what it seems to me.
I have had better luck playing double the fall with Dooku and Grievous in the past. I wanted to try out the B2s and that list does not leave much room for other units. They are fun to play and will get better in a little bit of time.
Really make me wonder if the B1 heavy weapon are really worth it. The one more wound is gone melt with the rest of the squad and paying more that 50% of the squad cost to transform a terrible dice pool into a mediocre dice pool seems expensive. I think that one or two B1 with the hq uplink and maybe the command B1 that allow you to chain distance 2 for safe far away command shenenigan with a couple of bare bone 36pts squad are enough to play the objectif. That will give more point to add droidikas and B2
I think without them you struggle to do any damage at all. Mat Mem may be correct about the E5-S Sniper Rifle. I thought the Rocket Launcher did it's job, but then Chris made some nice saves with his tank.
@@warcorgi3623 Fair point but my idea was that with the points you don't spend on a B1 heavy weapon slot you can buy things that will do actual damages. Because let's face it B1 are not good at putting on damage anyway. Buying them a heavy weapon is just upgrading there average hit from 1.5 to 3 hit and IMHO that's nothing to write home about. Especially when targeting a unit in heavy cover. On top of that you have to take into account the huge variance of the white dice. From time to time the B1 unit will do 4/5 hit. But that compensate all the time you did absolutely nothing with them. Witch means that they lack reliability in the role of dealing damage. And reliability is more important than peak performance when assigning a task to a unit. What they are good at on the other hand is cheap activation for objective grabbing and cheap HP for guardian with Grievious 2 pip. So here is my suggestion: For almost the price of two B1 with E-5C you can field one B1 naked and one B2 with ACM So instead of having multiple unit that are not great a dealing damage. You have one unit that is good at dealing damage and one unit that is good at playing objective. That will let you use your actions more efficiently. Another added benefit to this approche is that you don't loose much firepower when hiding your B1 out of LOS for the sake of keeping them alive for objective. And the icing on the cake if you play Grievous is that during this one turn you need to close in with your B2 you can play his 2 pip and your hq uplink to give all your B1 guardian 2 that will allow them to take the hit for the B2. Make sure to keep your B1 in range and out of enemy LOS while doing so: this way you are sure to not loose any B1 activation and the B2 armor will kick in multiple time.
For those interested in B1 variance and average roll i wrote a script on Any-Dice that compute it: anydice.com/program/1a8fc Just click on "graph" and "at least" to have a nice representation of expected results
Republic does really well on this channel mate. If you are a fan of their play style, check out some of our other videos with them. I certainly love them!
Thank you for the video. I just stared it but have to ask.... what color did you use on your B2 droids? Having a tough time figuring out how to paint mine up.
The counterpart keyword allows you to split wounds between the two models, which is a change from how wounds are normally allocated. Iden Versio and her Droid will be able to do the same thing, but to less effect since the Droid only has one wound.
Why yes he did! I have been guilty of doing the same thing in the past so I can't judge, but man a magician would be hard pressed to do that trick better than Chris pulled it off there.
OMG! Well that doesn’t look good! If you watch a lot of these videos you’ll see me constantly knocking down terrain and units... my hands are not safe!
Another game on the channel with droids and poor Grevious getting absolutely obliterated. Sighs. I wish we had more 2003 clone wars as opposed to 2008, if you know what I mean :P
War Corgi They seem pretty hard to play in comparison to the other factions; they struggle in every match up I’ve seen so it’s definitely not your fault
It kind of looks like that's intentional. The Droid frontline is pretty underwhelming and all their resources are best deployed into their Commanders. Grevious wasn't especially threatening in this battle, the Tank proved invaluable in taking hits, which is what it should be doing.
Yeah I agree with Daniel's comment. Had the B2s gone after another target, it could have been a much closer game. As it was, I made a bad gamble with them, left them out in the open for Chris to come back around the building to destroy them out of cover, and it was all downhill from there.
He feels pretty impotent without it though. The whole optional pistol thing has been interesting with Jyn's going down to 0 points and Iden's coming in at 15. I like the flexibility it provides but at the same time seems like an auto take or otherwise the character is not complete.
It's only Range 1-2. You'll get 2 shots out of it all game, if you're lucky. It's never worth using in melee. 12 points seems fair/above costed for its effects.
@@Harleqyin now with all the rules and balances done I do agree. When I wrote this I had gone through 4 straight games of my brother using the blaster+plus scale to camp an objective, shoot whom ever I sent to contest, then fallback out of line of sight.
Love those tanks, even have one as a lego model but i'm kind of disappointed how they look here. Looks like a home made cardboard cutout :( was looking forward to buying one, not sure now.
Hmmm.... I was very happy overall with the model, but have to do some additional work on the paint job in order to really make it pop. Maybe check out some other people's work and see if that gets you more excited about the model. There are some really amazing paint jobs out there and that can make a load of difference in whether or not you like the model.
26:36 turn 2. Literally NOTHING happens on turn 1. Nothing. Fuckin NOTHING happens on Turn 1. I think 3 droids die in the first minute.. then 25 minutes straight of ZZZzzzzzZZZZzzzzz You'll thank me later. Go to the timestamp.

That will give more point to add droidikas and B2
The sniper rifle really is. One red and a white + critical 1. It really helps.
I think without them you struggle to do any damage at all. Mat Mem may be correct about the E5-S Sniper Rifle. I thought the Rocket Launcher did it's job, but then Chris made some nice saves with his tank.

Fair point but my idea was that with the points you don't spend on a B1 heavy weapon slot you can buy things that will do actual damages.
So here is my suggestion:
For almost the price of two B1 with E-5C you can field one B1 naked and one B2 with ACM
So instead of having multiple unit that are not great a dealing damage.
For those interested in B1 variance and average roll i wrote a script on Any-Dice that compute it:

Wow I’ve never seen the republic win. Nice!
Republic does really well on this channel mate. If you are a fan of their play style, check out some of our other videos with them. I certainly love them!
@@warcorgi3623 Absolutely. Watching the Grievous Palpatine one atm. Keep up the good videos and stay safe during this time
Thank you for the video. I just stared it but have to ask.... what color did you use on your B2 droids? Having a tough time figuring out how to paint mine up.
Thanks for the question. It is GW's Grey Knight Steel and I love it. It has a blue tint to it that works perfectly for the B2s.
your channel is way better than crabbocks!
How did he split damage between 3PO and R2? Shouldn't 3PO take both wounds?
The counterpart keyword allows you to split wounds between the two models, which is a change from how wounds are normally allocated. Iden Versio and her Droid will be able to do the same thing, but to less effect since the Droid only has one wound.
@@warcorgi3623 Thanks for the reply; I learned something new
Go grivus Go !! :D :D
I hope his performance didn't disappoint....
did he change a blank red dice to a crit lol 1:12:15
Why yes he did! I have been guilty of doing the same thing in the past so I can't judge, but man a magician would be hard pressed to do that trick better than Chris pulled it off there.
OMG! Well that doesn’t look good!
If you watch a lot of these videos you’ll see me constantly knocking down terrain and units... my hands are not safe!
Another game on the channel with droids and poor Grevious getting absolutely obliterated. Sighs.
I wish we had more 2003 clone wars as opposed to 2008, if you know what I mean :P
I do. I also wish I was better with the Droids but hopefully that day is coming soon.
War Corgi They seem pretty hard to play in comparison to the other factions; they struggle in every match up I’ve seen so it’s definitely not your fault
Droy-da-cars
From the people in the city that brought you farty far instead of forty four...
Nice vid I think the droids are underwhelming right now though
It kind of looks like that's intentional. The Droid frontline is pretty underwhelming and all their resources are best deployed into their Commanders. Grevious wasn't especially threatening in this battle, the Tank proved invaluable in taking hits, which is what it should be doing.
Yeah I agree with Daniel's comment. Had the B2s gone after another target, it could have been a much closer game. As it was, I made a bad gamble with them, left them out in the open for Chris to come back around the building to destroy them out of cover, and it was all downhill from there.
I play heroclix and this popped up in my suggested... looks like im about to spend more of my money... thanks... lolol
Omar you will not find a better tabletop miniature game than Star Wars Legion! Hope to see you join the community soon.
I honestly believe Grievous’ blast is way too cheap for its effects. Should be at least 20 points
He feels pretty impotent without it though. The whole optional pistol thing has been interesting with Jyn's going down to 0 points and Iden's coming in at 15. I like the flexibility it provides but at the same time seems like an auto take or otherwise the character is not complete.
War Corgi I’m all for him having it. Just that it’s 4 attacks, pierce, and critical 1 on top of his relentless for 12 points is a bit much in my eyes
(Captain Rex)
Fixed it for you in the titles. No disrespect to the good captain intended! ;)
Mcdill Pickle no it's commander now
Love those tanks, even have one as a lego model but i'm kind of disappointed how they look here.
May the fourth be with you
And also with you!
1:05:00 LMAO
26:36 turn 2. Literally NOTHING happens on turn 1. Nothing. Fuckin NOTHING happens on Turn 1. I think 3 droids die in the first minute.. then 25 minutes straight of ZZZzzzzzZZZZzzzzz
You'll thank me later. Go to the timestamp.
like you video bro :)
Thanks mate!
