  • The enchanted highway of North Dakota leads to the small town of Regent. The Enchanted Highway features a number of the largest scrap metal sculptures in the world, created by Gary Greff to attract visitors to the Enchanted Highway, and then to his hometown of Regent, North Dakota. Our Enchanted Highway visit begins with the piece called Geese in Flight. We then continue along the Enchanted Highway to Deer Crossing. This Enchanted Highway sculpture also includes a fun maze. Further along the Enchanted Highway is Teddy Roosevelt Rides Again. This piece features a stage coach and a large image of Teddy Roosevelt on a horse. Our next stop along the Enchanted Highway is the Fisherman's Dream. This Enchanted Highway stop really is like a dream. Large fish swim through the air. After the large fish, the Enchanted Highway features a family of giant Pheasants in Pheasants in the Prairie. The last Enchanted Highway stop before the town of Regent is the Tin Family. Now the Enchanted Highway takes us into the town of Regent where we can see the Wirly Gigs, a sort of animated sculpture, and so we can visit the Enchanted Highway Gift Shop for a snack and souvenir. After visiting Regent North Dakota, we continue along the Enchanted Highway to see a castle that is being guarded by a giant knight from a ferocious dragon. The castle is also a hotel, so if you were tired out on your journey along the Enchanted Highway, you can have a rest here before starting out the next day. I hope you enjoy the journey with us on the Enchanted Highway.

When my son and I would travel the country we'd name our tours. BAR Tour: Bridges, Arches, and Rocking Chair (went to the five tallest bridges in the US, plus places like Bridges National Park, St. Louis Arch, Arches National, Keyhole in western Kansas, and photographed my dad's rocking chair). COW Tour: California, Oregon, and Washington.

I love the idea of naming the different tours. I think I may have to start to do that.

Definitely stay off of the interstates when driving through the middle part of country. It isn't always possible as once you get to the far west desert areas, it can be difficult to find two-lane paved roads.

It is interesting that China and America are so similar in some ways geographically. Going too far west will lead to the desert, but it is beautiful out there.
