    It's good at "picking colors" because it's not actually picking colors. It's using keyword searches to locate and remix existing art. It's taking things real people have already made and blending them together.

    The best argument I've heard about AI art programs' ability to displace commission artists: You have to tell the AI exactly what you want. Customers never know what they want, so human artists are safe.

    • @DarkRaven4649
      @DarkRaven4649 2 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      That, and the AI art program can only put colour and shape to prompts based on things it already knows. It can't "invent" background that an artist might, or tell a story with the picture. The way I see AI art programs finding their niche is pretty much exactly like it's being used here: To generate an excellent starting point for a human artist to elaborate on and be inspired by.

      I have been using Midjourney a lot over the last month or so and have a pretty good handle in its limitations. Like it’s horrible at animals and the more complex the image you are making the harder time it has with people. I do think it’s good at getting the impression or feeling of something. I could see using it like a concept generator that you then give to a pro artist as an example of what you want and let them make it real.

      Same thing with AI-journalism. Sooner or later, however...
      But lets not become Luddites just yet. One job dies, another takes its place. Guttenberg didnt kill the human race.

      @@SethLooks that’s what I did when I wanted to get a visualization of my Guard regiment/ Knight homeworld. I suck putting what I’m thinking in words into an actual image, since I wanted to make a board out of it.
      Very good for concepts, not so much anything beyond.

    • @SethLooks
      @SethLooks 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@CMTechnica I have found the more I have used it the more coherent and better the images I have been able to get. You do need to feel out what it’s limits are. You aren’t going to make anything you can think of and you have to be ok with close enough. But with enough experience and luck you can get some great thing out of it.

    I'm a freelance illustrator and let me tell you that I do not consider AI art as "cool".
    They may be useful to generate quick mood boards and stuff but overused it will eventually take the bread of artists mouth as they are still free to use.
    Some people already consider them as finished products (look at your video's comments) or to make "mood boards" to promote a commercial game (last video of Tabletop Time's channel).
    Plus, artists have knowledge and skills that AI can only mimic for a while before getting wonky and blurry.
    So please consider hiring real life intelligence when you want to get inspiration. Or going on Artstation, at least.

      NFT Generators... sorry "AI Generators" will leave an impact on the art industry for sure.

      @@DAMIENDICE I would have a way less hard time considering it as a medium if it had a money cost tbh... The only fact it's free and doesn't require any artistic skill - for now, I assume - doesn't make one in the state it is now.

    • @timunderbakke8756
      @timunderbakke8756 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I see two different themes with your comments. The first is that it’s not as good as human art. That’s fine, it’s a subjective idea and I understand that. I also understand apps like this AI are dependent upon human input to generate anything at all.
      The second is “no fair life could change for me” and that part I have a lot less sympathy for. We could say the same of blockbuster, or of “elevator operators” who merely pressed the buttons for you, or any other trade or service that was replaced with advancing technology. We all have to adapt to our changing world.
      Now, I don’t think good artists are going to lose work to the AI, because they are inherently better and people will pay for better. But artists who maybe aren’t as good at their craft may need to up their game or find a new employment plan.

    • @NikiGothBunneh

      @@darklros Yeah no I agree. I meant mediums other than AI. Whether it being digital or traditional I think there will be a creative space to fit into regardless, to some degree.
      I am in freelance aswell, and I am scared. The AI tech is worrying, considering how fast it is 'learning/evolving' to emulate the human touch.
      The process is everything for me, and I would rather not end up a Concept Art Janitor only doing cleanups of generated images.
