- Using a variable router jig to pocket for this steel table leg on the back of this cherry table top. I used some setup blocks around the leg equal to the offset from my guide bushing, the 1/2" downcut bit worked perfectly following the variable template, once the majority was cut a corner chisel made for easy squaring of the edges for a perfect fit! These setting blocks are too broad! The milling should fit exatly!
What’s the formula to figure out what spacing blocks to use? Say you’ve a 3/4 bushing and a half inch bit? Is it just 1/4 spacer on two perpendicular edges?
added spacing = (0.75-0.5)/2 = 0.25/2 = 0.125
So for a 12”x12” cutout you would need 12+0.125x2 = 12.25x12.25
Please, what is the festool part you put the non festool copying ring into?

plywood is fine if youre just a DIY or not that busy, if you dont see the difference between an adjustable jig and some nailed together boards you are beyond helping lol

Some people just don’t seem to grasp this isn’t DIY crafting, this is wood working top tier craftsmanship, yes older ways exist to do this, but he can do it way faster with the arsenal of tools he has, he can craft amazing pieces of art quickly, when did it become a bad thing to be precise and efficient with time while doing something you are passionate about and still be profitable? lol make it make sense.
This is not craftsmanship… much of the craft/skill required to do this task has been removed by special tools and jigs which are designed to make the task easy, so you don’t need to be a craftsman or skilful to do what this man is doing.

He’s still putting every measurement into the machine, the only thing he isn’t doing is manually making most of the cuts but he is still doing some things as any other wood worker. He’s still getting his hands dirty and putting in a ton of effort to make everything precise. He is a craftsman. 🤷♂️

@@bvictory5698 I’ve not seen the rest of his stuff, perhaps he is very skilled. But if you think the work in this video is craftsmanship, you’ve never seen craftsmanship before. This is just a basic process, achieved with some very expensive tools and jigs. If he’s knocking out tables like this regularly and this is an efficient route for him to do so, fine.
I’m far more impressed by people who make their own jigs, have mastered clever techniques, etc.
This appears to be a guy with a load of cash, who likes to make stuff easy for himself. Good for him, and I’d sure like to have a workshop like his!

Do any of these guys know how to use original woodworking tools? It seems like skill has been replaced by jigs and outlandishly expensive tools just to make furniture that looks close to something you would find at an IKEA.
There's always more tools than components to install, one set of legs a few screws and over a dozen jigs and tool bits
Go inside any reputable furniture makers workshop and you’ll find an entire wall covered with handmade jigs for just about every operation. A good tradesman can mortise and tenon a table together with basic tools/ machinery. A great tradesman constructs a functional and ergonomic jig that makes the task easier and more efficient, saving time for creativity. Also take into account the customer. The longer something takes to build, the more expensive it becomes. Very few people are willing to pay for that time anymore.
These tools are about production. They allow someone with a small shop to produce more and compete in the marketplace. If you are not running a business and just making for yourself it wouldn’t make sense to invest in these tools.

Advanced tools and jigs are part of the development in woodworking. What´s so wrong about it when it can cut building time and make cheaper products. Inflation-adjusted, thanks to modern tools, furniture is over 50% less expensive that it was 40 years ago when we started documenting it (data is from our German guild, but I assume it´s around the same in other Western Countries).

Струбцинами прижал ножку подстолья, обвёл карандашом, обычным фрезером держа ровно на опыте работаешь и всё. Если руки с перебуха сильно трясутся, то хотя бы с одним правилом или упором сбоку делаем это. Никаких фес туулс оверпрайсных приспособлений специальных и не надо

@@alexeyleqz1971 он еще через копир кольца на фрезере делал. А копир кольцо большего диаметра чем фреза. Получается плашки направляющие ( или рейки) надо ставить с неким удалении. Короче надо кучу всего
Most of my Festool products were new before 2007. They’ve paid for themselves with their dust removal ability alone. Next comes repeatability, enabling duplication of a project years later. I couldn’t begin to calculate the thousands of hours saved in preemptive clean up and ease of duplication of a project with incredible accuracy, without dozens of templates hanging all over the shop…

It is a steel frame on a wooden table. The wood will start working in summer/winter with moisture changes. The metal wil not. If the table shrinks, what will happen? Up to 1% can happen with wood. The table could split?

Hey thats a cool idea. Btw, theres a centering mandrel to make sure the template bushing is centered on the tool... If you have any fit problems, look into it. It is a precision cone with a shank the same size as your collet.

Sure if by Boss you mean the guy with all the money. To me Boss level would be knocking all that out freehand, just to be clear, I couldn't but when the extent of effort is squeezing a trigger on a router and bumping it up against jigs it looses its wow factor. End result does look nice though, and at the end of the day that's the goal.
