    Bo Burnham & Tim Minchin are both marvelously talented musicians who use that and humor to make some really good points. Sometimes it's just silly fun, and other times it gets way deeper than you'd expect.

      Wasn't he also inspired by Hans Teeuwen, the Dutch absurdist that did some shows in the UK (in English of course)? Not his best work and Teeuwen is a bit strange, intimidating and absurd by Dutch standards too, but the combination of stand up with songs is the Dutch comedy tradition, comedy shows without songs have been the exception for ages.

    Welcome to the world of Bo. For me personally, it's the most entertaining rabbit hole to watch people go down.
    I've been a fan of him since ~2007. We're both from Boston, roughly the same age, met him a couple times in public when I moved out to LA. Watching him get his first special on Comedy Central, making his move to Netflix, witnessing this comeback, and seeing him improve his craft, work on his health both physically and mentally, relating to his struggle throughout the pandemic, it's been one hell of a ride.
    I have nothing but admiration for this guy.

  • @ScottLovenberg
    @ScottLovenberg ปีที่แล้ว +40

    Bo is incredibly talented and cognitively gifted. He's also a tragic character. When you see his Kanye bit it'll break your heart. He had a nervous breakdown towards the end of the song and if you didn't know you'd think it was part of the act. He's so talented and rehearsed that he can be a one man band while keeping it together during mental health issues. Bo's better now, but his relationship to his audience is a tight rope act that can't be maintained into a healthy retirement age.

    • @Zabiru-
      @Zabiru- ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You're not incorrect by any means but well.. may I suggest fully describing the compelling part of the video might be a poor idea if you wish for her to do a reaction to that performance? Just maybe? To be fair, unless you research it or have heard the story before it's by no means guaranteed that you realize it, but still. Failing that the other song from Inside clears it up quite well.

    • @ScottLovenberg
      @ScottLovenberg ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@Zabiru- I didn't say when it was. No one catches it and then the context of the song is lost. I tried to be as factual as possible without spilling the beans. I might delete my original, but I suspect the reaction ends with "cool song. He's funny." vibes.

    Also, if you'll fall into Bo rabbit hole, you'd probably see how his work evolved. He started making videos on youtube in 2006, being sixteen years old and was really funny, but his beginnings were really edgy. I prefer newer Bo, where he's got "layers", like in here

    I was hoping to get your take on this song. I love it because it's so chaotic and then becomes structured and calming. Many great things to take in, putting the world in the hands of the younger generation was one of the main talking points when it came to internet development. Apathy's a tragedy, and boredom is a crime is another great line. As a more comedic introduction I would recommend "I'm Bo Yo" or "word words words". Much love!

    It is always amazing getting to hear someone's immediate thoughts they take away from his work. Also, you were fine leaving it as 'consume the internet' because that is what it honestly is too. Directly in the lyrics, he says it was designed to make you do that. The internet and all it has to offer has become an entity and being all on its own that wants people to eat it all up. And if you are not careful or are able to moderate yourself, an action that is very difficult for anyone, you will be 'consuming' all it offers you.

    He does a lot of commentary about the world, social issues, and mental health. If you come across a song of his from this special called "All Eyes On Me" I'd suggest watching one first called "Can't Handle This" first. They are about 5 years apart and when you watch them chronologically, the link between the two (don't want to spoil anything) really gives you some inside into him as a person. It would actually be cool to see a video with both of those songs back to back just to compare the two and see how you look at "Can't handle this" after watching both.
    The special that "Welcome To The Internet" is from is pretty unique because he wrote, filmed, and recorded the entire thing in quarantine by himself. It has a lot of great tracks on it. He nearly always has a deeper message he's trying to convey and it feels like music and comedy are just two of the levers he uses.

    I recommend listening to almost everything he's ever done 😅 his comedy is great and thought provoking and the same with his music. I'll be here to watch your reaction to any of his videos.

    I personally suggest seeing Bo Burnham's evolution by starting at the beginning and watching his first hits like 3.14 Apple Pi, I'm Bo Yo, and (my personal favorite) New Math. He really evolved as an artist and I think you'd benefit experiencing his early days before diving into his later stuff.

    Not a typical No Protocol video. He kind of reminded me of Robin Williams from Aladdin crossed with George Carlin and something else I can't quite think of.

    Another one has discovered Bo.
    He'll make you sit and work through your thoughts with almost every video of his you watch.
    Super suggest watching Inside, his special, while you're alone. It's very emotional/funny.

    Bo Burnham is a great artist. Alot of his work has real meaning beyond just the comedy and lyricism of his work.
    I personally think you will love 'how the world works' and 'cant handle this right now' by him. They are both brilliant. Also cont and thank you God by tim minchin are also outstanding

    A friend introduced me to his "Can't handle this (Kanye rant)" and I was dragging my heels on Bo until midway through the performance when it sank in just how ridiculously talented he is. Art is dead, Words words words, rant, EFF, there's loads of good earlier stuff to sink Your teeth into. Please do give can't handle this a shout when you have a few more Bo under Your belt, it's the good stuff! Cracking reaction as per usual.

    Fan since 09 here, I gotta recommend new math (on his channel). It's super clever, but it's also kinda specific to math as it was taught back then so it may or may not land. But I would love to see what you think about it.

    Bo has a cool idea in most of his songs where he usually starts by mocking someone or something playing into your assumptions, then sucker punches you in the second half with something that makes you second guess your worldview.
    very few songs that aren't at least a little thought provoking

    While perhaps not great for a reaction channel I definitely recommend watching his special "Inside" in its entirety (this is a part of it). While the individual songs are all amazing by themselves the experience of watching the entire thing is definitely greater than the sum of the parts

    I’ve been listening to Bo since he was a teenager in his bedroom making videos. He was witty and sharp then and continues to be so. He’s gotten a bit darker recently, but that’s understandable.

    I'm glad you liked the video!
    The show 'Inside' was completely filmed in one room, so if you watch other parts of it you may notice that it only differs in the style but not the surroundings. On a second watch of this video it's also interesting how he controls everything happening with a remote control (the lights for example).

    Probably a long take, but his special "What" is something to look forward. It's full on his TH-cam channel.
    His more representative specials (I would say) are "Words, words, words", then "What", "Make happy" if I'm not wrong with the name, and lastly "Inside". He has other albums before that. It's still worth to watch his older songs.
    He has had a long run, he even has a song named "Welcome to TH-cam" describing the TH-cam from, I don't know, 15 years ago?
    I'm pretty sure this special (Inside) was made all by himself.

    Ah! I have been hoping you would get to some Bo reactions! I think you will find a lot of his stuff very interesting! Some suggestions of good stuff to start with, "Repeat Stuff" "Art is Dead" "#deep" "Country Song" "From God's Perspective" just to name a few. He has some very interesting and thought provoking stuff about his personal reflections as well that is more recent but I think that stuff is much better served of you've seen some of his earlier stuff first.

    It's hard to go wrong with Bo's songs. His entire "Inside" special on Netflix is incredible, though it's a lot less comedic than his other work. "what." is probably his most recognizable material. But yeah, I grew up in the '80s and my parents listened to country, so I have a bit of a soft spot for that music. Seeing (or rather, hearing) what it's become makes "Pandering" my favorite Bo Burnham song.
    If you end up liking Bo, you might want to check out who I consider the OG in the genre -- Tim Minchin -- as well!

    I remember finding this guy in middle school, like 2008 or something. I always loved his specials. Him, Weird Al, Tim Minchin, they do some of my favorite comedy music. There's definitely others out there that I'm not thinking. Seth Everman for one, Davie504, regardless, Bo Burnham is one of the most introspective and interesting comedians to keep an eye on nowadays. I've watched Inside numerous times and it always makes you think. That's all I ask from films or media. Give me something to really wrap my mind around.

    The whole Inside album is a real deep dive and you can get a ton out of it every time you watch it. I do recommend doing it in order since the whole concept of it is a deconstruction of hes experience as a human being during a very difficult time in hes life.
