  • Is it possible to repair broken Venetian blinds that are inside glass, between two panes of glass, in a steel entry door or window? In this video I will show you how I went about solving that particular problem. In the end, it wasn't much of a fix, but certainly an improvement. As a bonus, you'll enjoy watching my daughter show me her loose tooth! Thank you for watching, and please subscribe to my channel for more how to and repair videos.

    My Venetian blinds were stuck on one side. I spoke to an expert and he suggested that I slap the top of the door frame above the window. It's tempered glass so it's not going to break unless you go crazy. This worked! The backup solution from the expert was to remove the door from its hinges and to shake the door.

      And it’s true because if you look at it thru the other side is stuck so with one good hit it will straighten up correctly

    Pretty sure all you needed to do was open it up until the magnet releases. You will be able to tell because it’ll feel like it broke away. Then move it back to reattach the magnet. Solved. No need to take it apart. I found this solution by mistake while opening it up to the top. Plus when you do this make sure the blinds are in the horizontal position.

      You must be joking. He is an engineer, obviously he would take it completely apart and reassemble it.

      Nope….doesn’t always work. I have two Therma Tru doors with bad blinds. One has the blind string looped on the inside so it does NOTHING. The other one has magnets that separated and will not move from top of door. Therma Tru said they are NOT under warranty as we purchased the home from someone….they are only 5 years old. Never purchase Therma Tru

    One of the center draw strings snapped on the blind inside our back patio door, which is not surprising considering it's about 20 years old. But of course the blind stuck in the worst possible spot - halfway down and completely cock-eyed. The "ship-in-a-bottle" method from this video didn't look too promising to me, so I came up with another idea. I removed the glass and reinstalled it upside down, allowing gravity to take the broken blind down to the bottom.
    It's not a great solution, but it looks a lot better for the time being, while I shop for a replacement. Looks like Home Depot has one that will fit, but it will take a few weeks to get it.

    The window is likely filled with Argon gas, which (if you notice) is likely the reason for the cough he got immediately after he compromised the vacuum in the window

    • @moonpiespotlight4759
      @moonpiespotlight4759 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wouldn't be a vacuum if it was filled with gas, might be under a slight pressure.

    • @josephtaylor630
      @josephtaylor630 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can create a greater negative pressure, and still insert gas at a smaller volume than the vacuum.

    Please don't do this to your glass. What he just did has voided his warrant. The glass is sealed for a reason and that is your thermal insulation value. Door glass is sealed air tight to keep your cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Also by breaking the seal on the glass it will allow condensation to get in your glass and will leave your glass looking dirty on the inside. Call the manufacturer if you have problems with your blinds. They can give you help to fix them.

      @Buckwsr  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks for the note. You make a lot of good points. In my case, the warranty was not as issue. And I just wanted to experiment and see what would happen. I know how to replace the glass easily enough if needed, but for now it is still clean and not fogged up. Of course, the blinds are stuck in the down position, so we can't really see through the window anyway. I don't think the insulation value has been compromised in any significant way.

      @johnrhodes101875 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yes call them and they'll tell you what they told me your out of warranty and heres and web site of a place you can buy the whole glass unit from, and you go there and find out they want $400 for one

      ROFL….what warranty…..I have Therma Tru doors with this problem….5 years old and NO warranty…these are truly a joke….give me pella doors that have a mechanical blind opener. They don’t raise but they do angle to keep out light.

    Spend 99.00 and just replace it, Plus you let the argon gas out when you drilled the hole..

    • @karmendimas5274
      @karmendimas5274 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There is NO argon gas in windows with blinds! so no need to worry about that, lol
      'Typically, windows are insulated with argon, which is sealed between double-pane windows to slow drafts. However, manufacturers usually skip this step in windows with integrated blinds in order to maintain the integrity of the window treatments.'

    Now it will mist up because you broke the seal.

    • @Buckwsr
      @Buckwsr  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You're probably right. But so far it's still nice and clear. Plus, the blinds remain in the closed position now, so you can see out that window anyway.

    • @josephtaylor630
      @josephtaylor630 ปีที่แล้ว

      Within 3 years time, it probably cost as much to replace, as the energy due to comprised insulation.

    Blinds inside two panes of glass are a pain. Most stupid idea I have seen. I have two french doors with this setup. It's a pain in the ass. I have to keep opening the blind frame to fix the blinds almost everyday. Especially the french door that opens and closes. Total garbage.

      Strings broke after just a short time. Just not made with sufficient quality....
