- This was one of my favorite days of 2020, having the privilege of fishing with Opaleye Fishing (and his uncle) on his as well as my beloved cousin Richard and his wife Lila. We had a great day catching Sheephead and then we decided to eat one fresh on the boat, the freshest sashimi you can possibly have!

Nice video Benjie! At first glance I thought your cousin was a younger trimmer version of you😂. It can't be proven scientifically, but I believe even the fish prefer the pretty girls to. So don't feel to bad. 😊

It's probably a good idea to freeze it overnight considering how close they were caught near a population of sea lions. But if you guys don't have any underlying health issues especially in regards to the immune system, eating california shepphead raw shouldn't pose any health risks.

I've wanted to try this with sh eephead but afraid of possible worms in the meat. How did it taste as sashimi compared to some other types of fish people sashimi like yellowtail and tuna?
It was delicious, the meat was firm and a bit chewy but also sweet. I hear you on the worms but I believe you can see them when cleaning...not that that removes the concern. It is what it is, we did it and we are ok lol!

Thanks Al, this really was a fun day. We were throwing chunks of shrimp that we got from the asian market.
Looked like a phenomenal day, so many great catches man! For motion sickness, I recommend some motion sickness pills, they go a long way trust me (my wife gets motion sick sometimes, she says if you gotta throw up just throw up, you'll feel 100% better instantly, plus you chum the water ;) haha). Just make sure you take it before you get motion sick, it does you no good to take them while you're feeling queasy. Ginger candy can also help too, as well as some ice-cold ginger ale. Also Garibaldi are very interesting bycatches, they pack a lot of heat in their small size lolol
Thanks for the thoughtful comment brotha! And def good advice man. I usually take motion sickness pills (cuz I need to...obviously 😜) but for some reason I thought I’d be fine at the breakwall. I was obviously wrong 😑. Lesson learned.
This is a fabulous video showing a species I am not familiar with That Garibaldi was nuts!!! Impressed with Lila!! Our dear friends daughter started playing the cello with Suzuki at age 18 months She is now 6 and blows our mind. Thanks again for giving us another story for what is available in the fishing 🌎

You don’t freeze it to kill the parasites before you eat it?
I’m not even close to an expert on this but I’ve been told red meat ie tuna is good to freeze while white meat fish are ok. My friend Opaleye is an expert when it comes to parasites in fish and he said it was good so I just went with it 😜😬.

This was filmed back in July and yes, I think around mid wall but this was my first time fishing the break wall....so I was totally leaning on the wisdom of my friend Opaleye.
