from a non bengali who has some experince with Kolkata food you should try 1. Kochuri-aloo dum / ghoogni 2. Egg Rolls 3. a famous place called Mitra cafe for non veg fried stuff 4. Shyambazar Golbari for mutton lovers: i dont eat mutton but those who do love that place 5. Dada-Boudi Biriyani these are some things unique to the city.

You can have luchi allo /radhaballavi which is Bengal special and all the sweets. Other than that most veg items are pretty much the same that you get in North . The highlights are fish food like kabiraji or rohu/pabda/elish based dishes , dada boudi and arslan Biryani , nizam kathi roll , kosha mangsho ( mutton) .
Best of Kolkata are: rosogulla Arsalan Biryani Puchka and papri chat dahi puchka Misti doi Fish curry Street side egg or chicken roll Edit: people replying to my comments are spitting the truth and completing the list which I left uncomplete😊

One humble request... You should try the famous "Dada Boudir Biryani" from Barrackpore which is just 25 km from Howrah.... You can easily reach by train.... It's one thing many Kolkatans crave for.... Lots of love ❤️
