❤ same here 😊
Same. I'm working on an afghan as I listen along. :D
I feel like this is the 1846 equivalent of a stash buster project. It's very colorful.
Just for information…… bois means wood.
I think it is a kind of beige tone.
So 4 shades of colors of wood? Wow, 17 different colors on this pattern!! Definitely a stash buster!!
This is great to know because I want to try this pattern! So, I want to pick the right tones. Can’t wait! I have loads of colored DK yarn in real wool. I hope I have enough proper shades 🤔 Either way, Yay!! This gives me SO many ideas! Love this channel. ❤
Regarding colours, it's important to point out that that book pre-dates the invention of aniline dyes (which became widely available in the late 1860s). The purple, for example, as well as that vivid light green would not have been achievable without those dyes.
In general, purples and greens prior to the invention of anline dyes tended blue and faded very fast, or were prohibitively expensive. Vibrancy just wasn't an option either. Part of our seach for vibrant colours during that era is also why arsenic green was SO popular.
And yes, plaid was very en vogue in the 1840s-.
Thanks for the information. Available colors during that time didn't occur to me.
Just a thought.... When it says 'repeat back again', I think it means to do them in reverse.
Exactly what I thought. It would result in some kind of ombré squares.
I think so too. Then it says 6 rows of the shaded blue (which had not been used at that point) and then repeat until 18 inches. I think it's the whole plaid-ish pattern separated by blue stripes. Sounds super pretty to me.
@@tephralynn I agree, I think it will look stunning when finished.
Me, too.
My thought also.
I feel like this would look like a carpet bag when finished! Would be so pretty ^^
That is fun! ❤ Bois means wood in French, so by couleur de bois they likely mean shades of brown. I don't have nearly enough colors to do this though, even in thread where I have the biggest variety. And right now I can't afford to buy any new yarn. But one day I will make this.
You could split some yarn into smaller skiens and overdye them to different shades. If you have a light yellow or beige you could use onion skins to make darker orange to brown shades. If you have some black beans you can do blueish grey shades. If you can find willow tree bark you can make a sort of rust red colour shades. God bless!
De bois is actually browns. For being that old, I've never seen a pattern with that many colors before, lol.
Many of these antique patterns may have used the loose ends as fringe instead of weaving in the ends. I have a theory that this is the origin of fringes on scarves since, during this era, they were commonly worked lengthwise, one row at a time.
That does make sense!
Yes the fringe on woven scarves is just the leftover yarn that goes over your end poles in the loom and then when you cut the scarf off you need to secure the edges so you tie the yarn into bunches. Otherwise it would fray.
You should make the bag ,it would look lovely finished😊❤❤
This is so fun! You are a color change ninja. And to echo another commenter, you’re like my own Bob Ross. You’re so brave with reworking your efforts. Adding that purple was amazing and I would’ve been so discouraged. Thanks for all the fun work you share with us!
This is very cool. My interpretation of the directions is that the repeated wouldn't be stacked directly on top but done in reverse because it says to end with the blue and black row. I love how yours turned out though. Even without the exact colors, the dark to light looked really good.
Agree I read it that way too
Definitely more colourful and fun than I would have expected for the era!
For the repeat, I think they want the pattern reversed, so you end with the black and pastels. Then 6 rows of blue, and then I think you go right back to the beginning. So the pattern is mirrored. Does that make sense?
That's what I thought, too. But it would be an interesting pattern either way.
Love to see this finished. Looks like a tartan.
I love how you've managed to create a cohesive multi-colored project. I think, nearly 200 years ago, they would probably dye their wool sequentially to exhaust the liquor, so they would have many shades of every color. It's nice that you used various stone colors, in grays and browns, because real stones are those colors. Thank you for doing this very fun pattern.
This would make a beautiful afghan. Love this pattern.
I love it! The red worked out just fine😊
Just at the start, my guess is shawl, but I think it would be gorgeously colourful! I imagine it's a great project for colour remnants, especially for people who work in just one size of yarn like the Red Heart yarn you keep using.
Holy moly!! You have the patience of a saint. I am so impressed by you. 💪🏼🙌💯
This pattern reminds me of my childhood. My mom was a goth hippie and our apartment had the same colors and even simpler pattern on our drapes in the living room. We had a beautiful floral velvet couch that was soft and inviting. I am autistic so I used to lay my head on the couch so I could feel the soft texture on my face and watch the drapes moving while drinking my bottle of Pedialyte. Our TV was a large brown wooden box with a vinyl player inside the bar with a liquor cabinet on the side. It had fabric coverings for the speakers and a FM and AM radio in-between the liquor cabinet and vinyl player. My mom would hook up her guitar to it and we would sing together. This pattern is a trip down memory lane for me. I was born in 1981 so the 70s were still affecting the culture of the world. Those were very Gothic times because we were transitioning from a darker time in our history to peace that lasted until 9/11 happened.
I’m a 1981 baby too ❤ I remember the yellow kitchen appliances, dark wood, oranges, pistachio green, paisleys and plaid. I miss our old record player cabinet and rotary phone.
Love this! I'm wondering if they mean to do the whole pattern again but backwards?
I'd love to see it completed
I like it! I want to make it just to see the finished project and because I like bags!
It would make an interesting baby blanket. You would just have to keep doing repeats til it is big enough. Maybe use a 3 weight yarn.
Oh wow yes!
love the pattern .. love the colours. Have been away visiting the kids for the last 4 weeks, and how I have missed my Corinna time. and boom back with a real banger !! on the to do list for when I finally get back home to my colourful stash. 😘
I like the chaos of it all. I sometimes prefer to watch your video first and the second time while making the item. On this had to do it this way, for I do not have the correct numbers of the different colors on hand. I do plan to make it as a carpet bag and will attempt to send you pictures once done.
Thank You so very much for your videos ❤
That is a beautiful color pattern. That would make an eye-catching sweater. Nice job.
The pattern reminded me of my parents oriental rug... so a travel bag seems perfect. Very cool!
I love the pattern!! And the colors you had available to use actually look quite good together, in my opinion! I guess it was their version of a stash buster. 😂 Great job, as always!!
This is an excellent stash buster! Even if you don't follow the suggested color changes, so what? It's yours to create. I'm looking forward to the tutorials, I have birthdays coming up in November and December, and one can never start too early for Christmas (that's why I'm currently knee-deep in a tablecloth, this thing is addictive!). Thanks for the video!
This is the first pattern I've been excited about in a long time. I thought it was rather colorful for the 1840s. Then i read the Comment on the brief history of dyes and it gave me a more realistic idea of the colors. Great project .
Love it. It could be a bolster. Pattern is fun,!
Imagine making a cardigan with this pattern it would be nice.
Corinna it's gorgeous the way you did it!❤ I love watching you decipher vintage patterns! Look forward to the next!! Take care to shake out your hands and wrists! I know this work is hard on fingers and wrists.. Shoulders back.. i hope all appreciate your time consuming and physical obstacles from doing this beautiful work!!
I love the surprise of all the colors used! What a fabulous travelling bag. 🦋
Interesting. I bet the bag would look really cool all finished.
I was thinking of a scarf until I read 18", travel bag sounds fun and a great stash buster project for the coming long winter nights.
Looks like a great way to use your stash..very pretty i think I will try to make this one
Oh I was hoping you were going to finish it. Really love the design! Thanks for another interesting pattern! 🙏😇
I love this pattern.❤ It would look beautiful as a blanket
I'm loving the shaded effect you've got happening with the color changes. Very neat!
Love the colors and the pattern. It's so much fun watching your video! 😊
Might just be my favourite so far! Very colourful
A travelling carpet bag. Cool idea, to use an ombre cake of yarn and line it . But to find such a large clasp ? Hmmmm.....stumped on that one. Lol
Hello from Germany ❤
My nephew does border patrol at customs in Frankfort. We love your Germany. Culture, food, everything!
What a great pattern for stash busting! Even if you didn't follow the recommend color choices, it would undoubtedly still be beautiful! 😍❣️❣️❣️
This is my get-a-way from the world channel. Love it and love you so much!! ❤❤❤
Oh I’m sure this will be beautiful when completed.. thanks for another great video Corrina..❤️
I'd go back the ither way, ending with the black and make it a scarf. It's very pretty.
This looks really cool. Idk if its just the colors you chose, but it reminds me of like castle towers at sunset? Idk i really want to try this one!
You could adapt that into a very nice scarf
❤❤❤ I can’t stop watching this one it looks so much fun I might have to do this later…and I’m loving your colours ,
The Color’s looks so pretty
I really liked it. It was so colourful
Your son gave you a big hint by including the pages about the stitches. Under Shepherd's crochet it talks about joining at the end of the chain...so instead of cutting and weaving in ends, this time it's done in the round (like cuffs, etc. as it says on the stitches page.) If you think about this being done in the round, it nakes it easier to figure out what it is.
BTW, I have an e-copy of this book and found the pattern, so I know what it is. No spoilers, promise.
As soon as I've completed my current project, I will be giving this a go in my own interpretation. I think this would be a wonderful way to use up some of my stash
This would make a fantastic scarf! Thank you 😊
I think you'd be repeating the pattern backward, so it mirrors itself. I like this style of crochet to be honest, it's got my mind turning.
It might be great with a leather bottom and a beautiful old vintage clasp and leather handles to make it look like a carpet bag. 💼
I think I will definitely have to make this one. It looks like it would be a great stash buster.
What a unique bag that would be.
Whatever this pattern is for, the crocheter must have needed the item desperately. I absolutely could not with this monster, and you are incredibly brave to tackle it.
It probably makes a forest effect using wood tones for the coleurs d'bois and five colors of autumn leaves, a little green, and some white and blue bits of sky peeping through.
I love the colors. 🌈🌈🦋🦋
Hello Corrina, this mystery pattern today, was intriguing. I couldn't figure out exactly where you were going with it in the beginning. But then as you went along I started guessing. Maybe a bag, a strap, or a small belt. But then when you measured it and folded it over. I thought Oh it has to be a handbag. I think it would be the beautiful finished into a handbag with straps. A lot of work though. Thanks for the pattern for today. Looking forward to your next video. ❤
This is lovely but I think the second row was supposed to start with colour and then black. However, the light blue with the lilac are my 2 favourite colours together. You are really good with this and I love watching.
This is quite beautiful!
I love it!! 🥰 It’s giving Nanny McPhee vibes. ❤
This is a fabulous pattern to show your very neat method of colour changing. I've never known how to do it before, so thank you!
This is a very nice pattern worked up. I like it.
Tip: If you crochet in the back loop only, the way South American mochila's (bags) are made, the colours will stack up straigther.
I'm definitely going to make this one, with leather handles.
I love it!!! Especially your color choices!
Beautiful! I might try making this myself
You could maybe have done this in the round and then add a zipper to close this as a bag. Also another suggestion whenever you are using many colors line them up to your eye, apeal. Then number them and when working the project change the colors to numbers. ❤Love what you do with the mystery patterns.
Love the colors
Hi, C.! The first Row 5 turned out a little "Dexter," but very cool! Hugs!
Wish you had finished. This was one of my favorites.🎉
I love it! I have a piece that I am making into a "travelling bag" already. But I might make this one too. Thanks for sharing :)
I kind of want to make this one! The stripes are neat!😆
How beautiful 😍 you always do such nice work!
I just finished making a carpet bag ( I used some leftover apolstery fabric & lined) it but it's interesting to see this as well!
Thanks for sharing this video with us.and I hope everyone has a wonderful day!
I think the way the pattern is written that you would use the colors in the order listed for each row. Row one starts with black and switches to the bois so row two would start with the bois and switch to the black so it would make like a checkerboard pattern. The way you did it looks good though. You are braver than I am to tackle a pattern that you don't know what it will be. Thanks for sharing.
Love it. I would like to see it after it is done.
Love it!!! ❤🎉
Love the color pattern!
If it’s just a rectangle great start to a sweater.
I'm thinking they might have been referring to a gradient look. If you had the called for colors, I can see it happening. For what we have, it looks fabulous! Maybe wear it from shoulder to hip with an attachment of sorts.
This would be a fantastic blanket, 😊I love the colourful pattern, 😍
Love it! I would make that if I didn't already have 5 WIPs!!
I wish you would finish it. It's gorgeous! 🧶
Oh, wow! I want to make this.
When you dye you own yarn you can achieve this number of colours by using the dye bath on different skeins until its exhausted. It would be quite normal to get 5 shades of scarlet/browm/green etc - using natural dyes the colours are more muted. It would be so interesting to see this in colours many had ready access to
Pattern looks like the ground w/ water then the “ stone “ colors are tree trunks and the pastels are ground to lower sky.. the other scarlet colors are forest/leaves
How interesting! I really like the look of it with all those colors. :~)
I feel like writing a date of the pattern in the video name gives everything away. But i love the videos so much!
That is so pretty and what a great stash buster.
Love this.
Ok I am obsessed with this project though it has to be late on my chain of projects. Very very cool. Btw I love your purple sub.
Hello Corinne! 👋 yayyy another vid 🎉❤
Hello 😊
It’s pretty! It’s almost like mosaic crochet bc you don’t turn.
