One of the messages I got from the show is that no matter how far someone crosses the line or gets pushed there's still a bit of humanity in them and that someone can bring it back. For Warwick it was his daughters that could bring Vander back, for Amebssa it was Mel, for Viktor it was Jayce
Amazing Video! After watching Arcane I was devastated w the amount of negative criticism I’ve seen in online and complains abt how “bad” the writting was on S2. And this video js proves to me how S2 was uniquely written. Thank you for this!
This is one of the greatest video essays I've watched in a while. The philosophy behind it is something I took too long to realize. Also I love the flow of your narration and its poetic nature it's brilliant
This video makes me want to watch the series again. I loved the poetry of your narration in how you used quotes from the series to tie your story to different moments from the series. the footage was on point too, always tied too what you were saying.
This is super well crafted. I've been a little disheartened by a loud voice on the internet claiming "season two has bad writing". And while I acknowledge their criticisms, I think the word "bad" ignores a lot of nuance and the complexities that arcane tries to tackle about the whole of humanity itself. Really appreciate your approach to talking about this show.
Don't let it get to you. Every story is a different story to every person lucky enough to experience it. The fact you can find value where others can't is a virtue, not a flaw. Who is anyone else to say what a story means to you?
@@J.Valmaggia "The fact you can find value where others can't is a virtue, not a flaw." That's a really wholesome (and very much-needed) message, thank you for saying this.
That's because season two did have bad writing. It was rushed and a lot of character arcs and plotlines suffered for it. It needed more time for the story to breathe. "I think the word "bad" ignores a lot of nuance and the complexities that arcane tries to tackle about the whole of humanity itself" The operative words here being "tries to".
There's a line about imperfections and value from the show that seems appropriate here. If you seek perfection, you'll always be seeking. Appreciate what you have.
@@chrishaven1489 I see your point and I agree to an extent. I do think it would have been better if they did stretch it to have an extra season in there (I would never dislike more arcane haha). Perhaps I should have worded my claim differently, but I still believe that the negativity surrounding the second season overshadows a lot of good things that came from it. Including in the writing.
I thought this video was going to another video solely criticizing season 2’s writing until I gave this video a shot, very well put, your analysis truly resonated with me :)
let this man cook for the entire neighbourhood! I am in tears because of this video, extremely impressed by your deconstruction of the themes present in season 2. You were able to create some acceptance in me for the story that was told. Seriously impressive video and analysis
This was amazing, made me cry. You summed up why I connected so well with season 2. Everyone online has been so negative about it, your take is so refreshing
I love this, I've been waiting for someone online to say that season 2 DOES complete the characters arcs in a way that makes sense. Sure, season 2 is not as complex as season 1. It's too fast paced and had too little time for it. It's still beautiful, it still has that nuance, it just is more compact (and less developed). I would've loved for season 2 to have more time, but this is still amazing. The writing is not bad by any means, it just was not as good as its damn near perfect predecessor. This video is beautifully edited and scripted. Your work is amazing!
There's a difference between completing a character arc and ending it. Did the characters reach ther end of their character arcs? Yes. Were their character arcs complete? No. Their character arcs were missing a lot of vital beats in their character development. Without those beats, their stories felt rushed and a lot of those emotionally impactful scenes felt unearned.
@@chrishaven1489 Yes, that's exactly what I was getting at. I guess I was unclear in my comment. Their arcs make sense for their characters but they are sped through without proper time to develop them. I guess I have writer brain and I fill in the gaps with my own guesses on what could've been. You make a great point!
I think in season 2, it’s hard to dive deep into the characters’ behavior. I mean, the show either moved the story along too quickly, or the storyline itself was weak. For example, season 2 didn’t show how Vi was convinced to release grey gas on her own people, or how Silco, in episode 7, after all the conflict and planning an attack, suddenly decided to forgive!
As well written as Jayce's final speech to Viktor was, I think the issue was less about imperfections and more about him actually dying... He could have said "go ahead and die", but making the speech about accepting imperfections is kind of obscuring the real issue... Also it looked like the two of them ceased to exist after that? I don't know how valuable a speech is when the only ones around to hear it are dead...
It's so nice to see a show like arcane, a show rich with heavy themes on the human condition, covered by someone with media literacy. Hope this reaches more people once the excitement from smearing it dies down!
@ I was mainly talking about your script, the way at the end of a long train of thought you managed to perfectly insert a quote from the show that encompasses the idea of that section. It sounded a lot like poetry, and along with the chill vibe (W hollow knight music), made this a very special video essay. (But yes the French are indeed cooking)
You got one part of that wrong... The 'Wild Arcane' had a significant influence on the creation of the "commune", even, to some extent, influencing its own emergence and Victor’s transformation into who he became. And here’s a *spoiler:* Victor wouldn’t have even noticed it if his older self version hadn’t sent Jayce back into that reality and closed the loop with a message from himself to himself from another reality. Accordingly, the conclusions in this video are a bit of a stretch. The series doesn’t oppose individuality because the Arcane-commune is a false "paradise". It’s merely a means for this mineral to parasitize, merely brushing against the theme, but ultimately serving as a trigger for *conflict* in a rather pretentious title. But regarding "imperfection" and injustice, you have no idea! Seeing firsthand where fear, arrogance, stupidity, and heartlessness lead humanity... I completely reject the possibility of individuality without CONTROL! Without rules... It’s impossible! But who will define these boundaries, who will ensure justice in such a world? Only a _perfect being,_ not a human. No one would deny an individual their expression or existence, but there must be one condition: their freedom must not infringe upon the freedom of others, and this must become a law! By definition (in physics), laws are immutable (it would simply no longer be physically possible to break them). *"Evil will be INSTANTLY returned to its source; the thirst for murder will kill its bearer"* - this is the key to eternal peace. That’s all that needs correction in human nature. Defining the boundaries of freedom... "How boring life would be...?" It’s easy to ponder such things in a peaceful country, using a cartoon as an example, while the rest of the world burns in flames... In reality! Another correction: empathy cannot be learned. You can only be born with it, and that’s why such people don’t need to experience their own pain to understand the pain of others. So nature itself contradicts your views, as it is. -_- And your thesis about "acceptance" contradicts even this series. Was it _acceptance_ that sent Jinx to the other side (killed her) in finale? It’s just a chain of tragedies that have no logical resolution and never did... Nor do they in reality. Don’t live in illusions. Problems need to be solved! Moreover, they must be prevented from arising.
The way the characters reach acceptance doesn’t work at all. The writers essentially cheated with nearly every character and relationship, relying on deus ex machinas, erasing characters’ psyches and pain, and resolving their journeys toward healing or acceptance off-screen. As a result, the outcomes based on their supposed acceptance of pain or reality feel unearned and hollow. I work in mental health, and I was genuinely excited to see Season 2 explore the healing process for these characters I care about so deeply. But what I saw fell far short of my expectations, whether in terms of personal healing, relational/systemic healing, or societal healing.
You said it perfectly. At first I didn’t like how the Zaun and piltover conflict was pushed aside. We see how Sevika got dirty looks from the council. Showing that the classism is still there. So even after an entire war, hatred for Zaun has not changed. Also the characters aren’t healthy independent. Jinx only got better because of Isha, and as soon as Isha died, Jinx needed Ekko to save her. only for her to fake her death instead of reconciling with her sister. Or how Vi went back to Cait even though we saw how codependent she is when she started drinking to cope with the breakup. It isn’t what people should strive for when they think of individuality.
Oh my god finally a video that gets season 2! I am soo tired of people saying it was rushed. It really wasn't. Yes it would be lovely to see the cut out scenes but they already told us everything they wanted to if you just pay proper attention to the story and treat it with the respect art deserves. In a way, people who don't see the message of season 2 prove it even further. They do not pay attention to the distinctly natural and human process of storytelling and artistic expression. They miss the humanity of the series itself and just skim over it. (Which is fine, not everyone needs to be fully invested in everything, but then don't act like the show has no message and was rushed and not understandable if you weren't a willing recipient for said message.)
One of the messages I got from the show is that no matter how far someone crosses the line or gets pushed there's still a bit of humanity in them and that someone can bring it back. For Warwick it was his daughters that could bring Vander back, for Amebssa it was Mel, for Viktor it was Jayce
100 percent, for cait vi, for jinx ekko. "There will always be a good version of you."
I love how relaxing this whole video feels. From all the loudness im used to in other arcane analysis videos ive seen this is a nice change of pace.
The sound design and background ambience really makes Arcane feel like part of our reality even if it's just fiction

Genuinely so surprised this video has less than 1000 views. Subscribed immediately! Such a good break down, man. Thanks for this perspective 😋
Thank YOU for the support 💪

love this sm, please keep posting:)
love this comment man, thank you!
This is one of the better analisys videos i have seen on arcane. Really well done job!
The use of the Prey 2017 OST for "what makes you, you" is absolutely magnificent when you know the game's story and ending
Dude, this is the best laid out analysis of Arcane’s themes I’ve seen. Super well made and concise
this is possibly the best video i have ever watched on this platform in all of its 20 years
wow, that's a mad compliment man. thank you so much
This was brilliant!
love this! thanksss

Yes. I was trying to find a way to say this. Very well explained!
god damn bro good job and nice video
Love the video and transitions, great insights too ☺☺

When I finished the video I thought “well now I gotta binge all of them” only to be jump scared by a criminally low sub count. Very underrated.
I think I don't really understood even 50% of information cause I dont know english that well, but it get me realy deep

thank you very much, mate, that means a hell of a lot. And yes, the hollow knight OST is mad good
I love the way you talk. It's a great contrast to the way people on youtube or Tiktok talk. Like the protagonist in a movie or something
Oh man, that prey sound track makes me feel things.
clap clap clap
siempre presente 🤴
beautifully said🌷
J Valmaggia храни тебя Господь
you too МарияКузнецова11
Could you elaborate the acceptance part please? Like how it led to ekko moving forward and zaun and piltover finding peace
