Double Concerto for violin, cello and orchestra, Op. 57 (1960)
1. Moderato (0:00)
2. Tranquillo cantando (6:13)
3. Tempo Primo (12:19)
Amus Kerstin Andersson, violin & Max Levin, cello
Örebro Chamber Orchestra conducted by Thord Svedlund
Details by Ralph Graves:
The Swedish composer once characterized the 1960 double concerto as the last piece of his music worth performing. Perhaps - only two other works were written later.
The concerto is an interesting blend of old and new. Atterberg was ever the champion of Post-Romanticism. The concerto’s structure and harmonies harken back to the practices of the early 1900s.
But the piece doesn’t sound outdated. Atterberg is a skillful melodist. both violin and cello have beautiful passages that engage the listener. The music reminds a little of Dag Wiren and Vaughn Holmboe, two other Scandinavian composers unaffected by fashionable trends. - เพลง
2 Atterberg posts in one day?! Awesome!!
I found similarities with his sixth symphony, second movement, in the first movement (4:55 and 15:50 for example) of this marvelous piece. Atterberg is great, I won't never tell it enough. Thanks for uploading.
Lyrical 3/4 theme in E minor
Kurt Atterberg's piano concerto is my favorite of all piano concerto's. It truly is a remarkable composition. I hope one day my favorite pianist Yuja Wang would perform it.
Incredible double concerto.
I hope that the 5th Symphony will appear on this channel soon...
Wow ! I like this . Interesting form and the material succeeds in every way !
I enjoy Atterberg a lot more when I don't take it so seriously and see the musical stakes aren't so high as I used to think they were. Thanks for uploading this, it's helping me see the lighter side of his works.
Also helps when you know the music culture of the 1960s. Helps to put his music in context.
Interesting. The harmonies remind me of Percy Grainger.
Atterberg and Grainger were almost exact contemporaries! Only a few years apart in age.
So good!!! Where did you find the music?
Could you please share this score? I would be very thankfull.
