About TEDx:
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
She's definitely one of those legendary sirens. Her music is hypnotic enough to make you go into a trance.
This is incredible. Pretty sure Imogen Heap is actually a magician.
Amazing. The hand movements make it look like she's casting spells of sound. Brilliant.
I heard of her listening to Pandora the other day, I'm not infatuated with her. This just impressed me even more
Wow. This is super cool. Definitely the pinnacle of anything I've seen in the arena of live improvised electronically-enhanced performance.
Interesting: I first saw a video of Imogen performing her considerably more refined version of the Gloves at the 2012 Wired Talks. This demo offers just a hint of what was to come. PROGRESS!! :-)
researcher at my university helped work on these. dopeness.
I love Imogen Heap
"As some of you already know, I have been working on and off over the last few months on a jogging app with RJDJ. Music that changes according to the intensity of your run, building and growing over the distance, interacting with you and the outside world. The music you hear will never be the same twice yet all threading on musical themes and a feeling that is related to the app but more on the detail over the next month!"
This is her new project. Probably will end up on TED sometime.
Wow! Amazing! No standing ovation?? Oh, AND I LOVE THE HAT!!!
Brilliant. Imogen is a genius
Sweet Jesus I love this woman.
is there a studio or released version of this song? its amazing
Can't believe I'm just seeing this. I caught the other performance she did w the gloves & bicycles. Needless to say brilliant!!! Pure genius!!! I want to see test results to prove she isn't a alien!!! If not than we should at least try to clone more of hers!!! We need more immi's!!! Grahh I freakin love her!!!!
Imogen is amazing, these gloves are incredible and I am so delighted that she is making them open source.
+Snow Dragon REALLY??? OMG! Is it available already? I would really enjoy to take a look at it.
+thefluxcbf Check out the website.

Wow, love that, this is truly interesting tech to see at work, and to wee it being played by Imogen Heap, even better. Nice.
wow. pretty freaking cool gadgets, what imagination. beautiful!
Wow ! Imogen Heap is amazing, I am so making those !
Omg, I think I even prefer this over me the machine. I've only just found out about this earlier demo video. love this creating outburst if improv.
Minority Report 2: Future Music Crimes
Starring: Imogen Heap
Released: Now
Overview: In a world full of Simon Cowell's, Bono's, Aussie Hip Hop and Black Eyed Pea's, Heroine Imogean Heap comes forth with a future music crime-fighting device that, amidst moral debate; could change the future of music itself.
this is insane!! In a good way of course!!
This is incredible. My lord.
Huge inspiration. She’s too cool.
Her and those gloves are amazing!
I MUST see her live with these.
she’s incredible
According to Wired Magazine: "Heap's gloves use four basic movements: fist, open hand, pointing and the "rock" sign (fingers in horns). The gloves operate in six modes: voice record, multi-effects, wrist record, drums, synths and rock mode. Heap switches between them with a gesture on one hand to indicate the start of a mode switch, then a second gesture with her other hand to select a particular mode. LED lights on each wrist tell her which mode she's in".
I can't stop looking at her hat.
Hugely talented lady!
When this video was made, the glove were still in their infancy. As far as I know, they are still not complete, but they are further along than they were at this point. There is a Wired talk and another TED talk that are more up-to-date that explain a lot more than I can here.
Brava imogen Brava ! すごい!
I died. this is beautiful.
Completely blown
after 8 minutes. amazing.
WOW! awesome!!!
love it. improv is where it's at
@frichikendz This is her second time on TED. The first time she played the piano and sang "Wait it out"
Livin in the god damn future!!!
@SeanX2X The lights show (to Imogen and others) what 'mode' the gloves are in. You will see, if you are observant, that they change colour during the performance.
i just love her dangit.
Wow!! those gloves are -amazing-!!. So is Imogen Heap herself, of course :)
This is the first ted "talk" that I have really been skeptical about. I'm not going to say anything except I am always skeptical about lights that don't serve any purpose. (see any sci fi movie or show).
Amazing!!
I want to know can we use the gloves while we play guitar ? For sound effects and looping? I play electric would love to use them while i play guitar like having a symphoney back round while i play lead
That was insaaaaannneeeee
O_____O AMAZING.
That was amazing!
WITCHCRAFT!
two words...beamz
Definitely worth the 10 minutes :D
Your two comments are vulgar. She improvises, she is more creative than most mainstream artists (some of them may not even be composing their own music), plus she sings way better than most mainstream artists.
Most of all, you are in no position to tell her she is not "great" since you come from nowhere. If you reply "im this and that" then you obviously have a horrid character. Have a good reading :D
I seriously want to know what all the gesture commands are. I also just... really want these.
Have you seen the latest versions with her new song? :D
+Elanchana I bet she have synesthesia maybe that why is so natural to her combine gestures and sound.
I thought for sure the hat was going to be one of the input sensors.
May I ask - is anyone else receiving a delay between sound and visual?
A brillian genius. But she needs to push her mic a bit away from her lips x3
Yes, really cool!
But I wonder, what is made by herself and what is made by other musicians in the background?
In the video there seems to be a confusion between 5:20 to 5:40. It seems that the equippment is not responding to her movements.
Can anyone explain this?
I know this is super late, but I think I can explain this for you after working with and figuring out the gloves myself.
All that's happened here is that the loop function has not been set to record on her computer - whether she is controlling this or an outside engineer I'm not sure of, but when she takes a glance it's probably at her tech team not performers. You can see the lights on her gloves hint at changes between functionality - when the lights turn orange it means that she's recording a loop! Purple (RH) & Yellow (LH) mean drums setting. Blue lights are reverb, pan and high pass filter.
Hope this clears it up for you and everyone else reading after :)
Very cool.... her hat and hair are driving me nuts though.
Her and her team are going to make a crap load of money off of these if she allows them to be sold commercially. I've been trying to figure out who would love to use these. I am sure there are few artists who might be interested. Like possibly Matt Young of Owl City. Maybe björk. I personally think she has some pretty revolutionary machinery in her hands.
Technology is amazing.
Терменвокс 21-го века
to be honest it sounds like crap might just be she havent had the tool for long enough
but love the concept
Is her hat made of paper?
lets remember the part where she made everything up on the spot, hey? why the lack of talent recognition. go make your own gloves then.
just start dammit
be a wonder if some people left here un- possessed by all the demons shes summoning lol
This chick uses alot of Tech gear.
Shes lost it haha, jk this was kool
Should have gone with someone... not Imogen Heap.
that stupid geometric hat seems ill fitting.
Definately fake...
Take it easy honey. You are not that great.
