  • Shaykh Talal Ahdab delivers a powerful seminar about the paradigm and tools to understand and appreciate the Book of God. He examines the story of Qur’anic text from revelation to compilation as a mus'haf (a codex or collection of sheets) and its transmittal as a text that has reached us today.
This teach-in was delivered at the Muslim Community Center - East Bay (MCC East Bay) in Pleasanton, California on February 9, 2019.

This origin of this workshop by Shaykh Talal is based on the the Birmingham Quran manuscript, which is a parchment on which two leaves of an early Quranic manuscript are written. In 2015 the manuscript, which is held by the University of Birmingham in the U.K., was radiocarbon dated to between 568 and 645 AD (in the Islamic calendar, between 56 BH and 25 AH).
The manuscript is written in ink on parchment, using an Arabic Hijazi script and is still clearly legible. The leaves preserve parts of Surahs 18 (Al-Kahf) to 20 (Taha). The Cadbury Research Library has carried out multispectral analysis of the manuscript. The ink has yet to have its constituents tested.
