At 26:59 when Im talking about SD Pass Celebi's offensive moves, ignore the Psychic bit. SD boosted Shadow Ball is the move that is used to OHKO Gengar. HP Fighting can be used vs Blissey, Snorlax, and Tar. Ancient Power/HP Rock can be used vs Roar Zapdos/Moltres/Salamence!
cool vid, very informative and great to watch while I was cooking! i'll be waiting for more :) (maybe a couple tournament replays showing him off super hard would be cool, but either way loved it)
thank you so much, these types of videos are great to listen to while cooking for sure LOL, tour replays are such a great idea, definitely will be including them in future videos!! I have one planned for my starmie video dropping tomorrow cuz WOW it's hard to find games where there's not only an offensive starmie but also where it does a lot
first off thank you!! second, here's a great SPL (high level smogon team tournament) replay between BIHI and sadlysius that showcases the mag-skarm duo. Sadly's team struggles to break through skarmory, so it has a magneton. On turn 9, BIHI brings in his skarmory into sadly's lax. sadly's team SCREAMS that it has a magneton because of how skarm weak it is, so BIHI makes an incredible double switch into his own magneton predicting sadly's to come in and is able to KO it, letting BIHI's skarm basically live forever and win the game from there! replay.pokemonshowdown.com/smogtours-gen3ou-677027
Ayo that was a good video. I’ve been interested in adv for a while and usually mag is only really described as a Skarm (and forry) trapper so it’s cool to hear more about it, not only what else it can trap but also the teams it’s used on. Very informative. Also it’s cool hearing the other uses of magneton besides trapping because it’s one of my favourite with a lot going for it besides it’s ability. One thing to improve: when wearing headphones to watch this your voiceover only plays in the left channel so definitely fix that. Also, while I’m perfectly fine watching a less edited video with primarily audio as the content, setting the precedent of showing the leech seed Celebi against the metagross makes me wish there was a tad more examples visually shown off. Overall tho, great vid. Btw got a question, how come the steelix had hp rock when it has rock slide, is it just an accuracy moment? Also how dare you not mention steelix’s true best partner mantine…
yeah the audio is a big thing I'm gonna work on in the next video, and I'll for sure try and put more visuals in!! I wasn't sure about like how many people would just listen to the video vs watch it cuz it is like a 30+ minute long rambling thing haha but if there's a demand then I'll for sure put more in, I specifically wanted to include the celebi thing because it's a bit difficult to describe the Leech Seed interaction with just words. Thanks for the feedback I really appreciate it. IVE NEVER USED MANTINE IN ADV OU LOL but it is a really solid mixed salamence counter so I might give it a go.. also the thing with HP rock vs rock slide is that steelix is slow af so you'll never get the flinch anyway and the 5bp is negligible, better to always hit than to miss on a key turn!
Oh that’s interesting, I never considered the flinch rate not mattering so that makes sense. I’m only a 12-1300 elo scrub so take this with a grain of salt, but mantine is kinda good. It’s fame comes from walling suicune with haze, but honestly beyond that it’s at least passable on superman as an ice neutrality with a ton of spd, and using toxic is great at punishing zapdos switch ins. Obviously nowhere being as good as a special version of skarm as it takes sand chip, but I do think it has a place in the tier. When I lose, I don’t think it’s mantine’s fault
@dobstrich yeah makes sense youd run mantine on a superman team cuz those teams HATE offensive swampert, same reason why some run articuno cuz cuno and mantine can take that pump/eq/ice beam/focus puncy coverage well. I dont like using superman personally but i think those mons are super cool picks
Magneton just isn’t an OU caliber monster outside of its pure trapper role. I’ve tested all the sets. The best by far is the magnet tbolt/hp fire. Other two moves the most consistent I’ve found are toxic which I find is mandatory to punish grounds and then the other either Twave or protect. It’s up to team structure which you prefer between Twave and protect. I prefer protect.
Standard mag is standard mag yes, but on styles like MagDol you prefer mag having more utility elsewhere, as you are already fishing hard for Skarm teams, and can allow yourself the extra hedging for other matchups. Lefties mag is solid and can come in on / annoy gar and zapdos pretty well. On some offense teams salac mag can work as a clutch endgame solution, and also check offensive starmie (which most offense hates), as well as force dug out when trapped (with endure hpgrass). Again, for most teams standard mag is the best set, but if you are spreading mag thin to cover other things because your team needs or allows for it, other sets are valid.
I'd agree with dug for sure since it's basically the special offense version of what Mag is for physical offense! Not so sure about skarm tho cuz as great as Spikes are you're not immediately removing the biggest thing getting in the way of your offensive threats. I'd differentiate "offense enabler" and "progress maker", skarm and ttar are insane because they force progress vs so many things just by existing
Petition to change the title to say one trick ponyta
LMAO that'd be funny actually

thank you so much!!
Do you have any replays that show mag doing more than just eliminating skarm? I really like the video! 🐸

is there no discord for your channel?
ah no I just make videos by myself 😭 don't have a discord server or anything

DUGTRIO AND SKARMORY ARE THE BEST OFFENSE ENABLERS !!

3:20 hp fire is special, counter doesnt work on special attacks lol
In Gen 3, all hidden powers are treated as physical moves by counter since the base move is a normal type move! Try it out yourself
