    Aww Eleanor and Nora are lucky that everyone helps give those two special attention. I loved it when little Nora ran out into the field to play with the others.

    Eleanor isn't worried about being at the bottom of the pack. She knows that Dusty and his stepdad will hand feed her cubes. I think that is her preferred way. Every animal I have ever had in multiples had leaders and then followers, and one was always at the bottom of the pack/herd. It is just part of life.
    Edit: I am not just making shit up here. I have lived on multiple ranches, at least one over 1000 acres. Everything I ate growing up was basically raised by us. My grandfather spent a lot of time making sure I understood how the circle of life works, and how the pecking order worked. I was just a small kid when I started helping in the harvesting of our animals. My grandfather made sure we knew not only how to keep our farm animals alive but also how to keep a healthy balance and how important wolves, coyotes and bears are to keeping the rodents down in numbers so that crops could grow. I swear, I get so ticked off by people who know nothing about wildlife and ranching try to advocate for them in the opposite way of what needs to be done.
    Eleanor prefers her cubes hand fed to her by Dusty. She knows what she is doing, and that is how she chooses to do it.

      And I think Nora will make her own way in life. Compassion is a human thing, I think. A fine thing to have I reckon, some gain it, some never do. I think it matters to keep an eye out for the underdog. They might not compete for status but they might have a valuable contribution to make to the group, or not. It doesn't matter. Helping another get by gives a human a good feeling - don't know about bison or rabbits or......

      @@joanlovelace7338 For pack animals it’s instinct and natural order. Our look at the situation is through the mind of a human being; we analyze and overthink things and attach emotion. For the Bison it’s life, order, and they all have a part and role to play in the pack. Don’t be sad, they’re well cared for by Dusty and they’re all content as is. If they aren’t, they’ll fight it out

      Don’t worry about them, Ranchers LOVE Their animals. Do you think they would let them starve??? There is a pecking order in EVERY HERD of EVERY animal, pigs, goats, sheep, chickens, geese, ducks, horse, deer, elk, cattle and bison. It doesn’t mean the herd HATES THEM, it just means they eat and drink last. Dusty has it taken care of.🥰

    • @RiverWoods111
      @RiverWoods111 ปีที่แล้ว

      You realize she doesn't eat at first, but she hangs back and there is plenty of hay. You all really need to start researching how packs, herds, prides, and groups of wild animals survive. If Eleanor wanted to be higher up in the herd, she would be willing to fight for that position. Neither Eleanor nor Nora is starving to death. They are getting plenty of grass and hay. You can see the leftover hay rows out there. Some of you all need to spend some time out of real farms seeing how it really works. You think Eleanor has it rough, you should see how the roosters treat the hens!

    That is wonderful fertilizer. I’ve watched other homesteader channels where people are worried about the poop, Good Lord, a few good rains or snow melts and it will be dissolved and making more grass for the livestock. Do you SEE how HUGE those pastures are?? If someone came to my pasture and told me to pickup the poop, they’d be laughed off the road! It is just a natural thing, happening for centuries. Nobody Is dying from poop piles, okay?? Sheesh, Dusty, I don’t know how you don’t lose your cool sometimes🥰

    Dunbar is so handsome. Moving Eleanor and Nora was a great decision. They look good. We use to takes an old mattress frame with the springs on it and drag it behind the tractor. Usually we had to put a few cement blocks on top to keep it from bouncing to high. Pretty inexpensive way to get the job done. I think we are all missing a Brooks video. Haven't seen Marissa either. Just wondering what you think. You've been to some very large bison farms. There is no way, maybe I don't know, that the bison rancher on a big farm can have a one-on-one with members of the herd. You've been able to somewhat domestic the animals in your herd. That makes them easier to manage. My question is if, at the end of everything, is this beneficial to the bison who you have "tamed" and what happens when your herd gets larger?

    Would it be possible or easier to feed Eleanor her special cubes out of a bucket? I don’t know a lot about bison but it might be a good way to hand feel her without putting your fingers at risk.

    I would just use a harrow behind the tractor and spread manure and left over hay across the pasture for fertilizer ,

    Another thing is the creatures that break poop down in the summer are hibernating in the cold

    Dusty Thank you for being so patient and explaining things to those of us unfamiliar with herd dynamics. It is clear you deeply care for all of your animals.

    Dusty a 4' harrow pulled behind a atv would work to spread out the 💩 think I seen Dan had one on AFH.

    All you need to do is drag an old bead box spring behind the pickup that is what I do it and it helps think about it will with your poop from building up I call it spreading the love.

    More than fire starter. The pioneers used it when there was no wood, and on the plains that was what they used. I wonder if there is a market for it. With horses lots of parasites are in manure. It might be something to think about. Your pastures can get pretty heavy inundated with poop. I did ask about hoof care earlier where dairy cattle seem to need it a lot.

    An old hay rack can work to spread out the manure into a fertilizer base
