Clip their wings, put in coop for 2=3 weeks, then let them out during the day. They should then think coop is home and return there in the late afternoon
He has coyotes showing up around the barn during the day. You don't want to clip wings because they won't be able to get up high enough to not be killed.
@@joanlovelace7338 Keep in mind that Jackie is the only dog that stays at the Ponderosa and she is still a pup. She seems to be doing a great job already, however, she still has some growing to do before she could think about actually taking on a coyote. Her presence now does seem to keep them at bay.
@@tthomestead2763 I agree with not clipping the wings. I'd suggest catching them at night once they've roosted. They go into kind of a catatonic state then, can be easily caught, and then relocated to the chicken pen. I'd put a few more roosting bars in there for them. Might take a few nights of relocating them to the pen, but they will eventually call it home at night.
Brooks is such a little sweetie! She is growing fast. Jackie seems to have acclimated to the ranch very well. I remember the video not too long ago when Weston was there power washing part of the barn before putting up the new wall. Time flies.
Your Bison Ranch is growing and getting better everyday. Hero and pats to Jackie the Best Guard dog. Still waiting to see her get another doggie friend there for safety though.
Agreed, She is still really young and a pack of coyotes would have her for dinner. She needs a couple helpers, at least one and a full size adult. I hope she stays healthy very dangerous for that dog to be out there with no humans. I know he shot a coyote the other day, which is good, but where he’s at there’s gotta be some large packs. Three or four coyotes would tear her to pieces.
You'll probably have to lock them in there for a few days to "home" them. Then when you let them out most will go back in there at night to roost on their own. 😊
Lots and lots of work to keep your ranch running smoothly. The before and after of power washing nice job . Love Jackie, sleeping and enjoying the warmth of the sun. Thanks for sharing another great video, I have such appreciation for the ranchers and the farmers. Thanks Dusty to you and your family. Happy, Happy 3rd Birthday 🎈🎂 🎂🎉 Brooks!!!
Brookes is so cute🥰 I just want to tell you, I worked in a veterinary hospital for over 27 years & I can’t tell you how many dogs either died or we had to fix broken leg(s) on from people thinking they will not jump out of a window or the back of the truck. I know Jackie isn’t a frequent rider, but just wanted to give you a heads up for the future. Love your channel, can’t wait to see what you are getting. I’m betting on a pony🤔😉🥳
Had a friend that had her schnauzer on a leash , with window down, she looked out all the time. One day she jumped, broke her neck, died instantly. They think " it will never happen"
I don’t let my dogs put their heads out the window. Only open enough so they can put out a nose. Not safe for possible jumping or being thrown out the window.
That rooster loves the sound of his own voice. You had fun with the power washer. Admit it. 😁 Is a pony coming!?!? A nice Shetland?! A Shetland would be perfect!!
Another thing that would help to teach the chicken from roost where you don’t want to . Put slated pieces of tin or boards so it looks like a roof that way that can’t get up to roost cause they will side down
You need to train your chickens as to where their roost is. You do that by keeping them in the coop for a week, not letting them out and feeding them inside the coop for that duration. After the week, you can let them out and they'll return every evening.
For Marissa, those black bins the supplements come in make great planters. I use pure steer manure, composted, in all mine and use it to start all my seeds as well.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY BROOKE!!!When you grain the chickens in the pen at night lock up as many as can and turn the door off. Then it will be easier to get the stragglers. God Bless 💕💕💕
Brookes getting a pony? Just remember, the easiest way to become a millionaire with horses... start with two milliion. Bend up some tin sheeting strips to an angle and place it on the flat beams while you're training to chickens to roost in the pen. If they can't stay in place, they'll learn quicker to be where you want them to. Jackie's such a good girl, Maya too. It's good they have each other to play with. Rent yourself one of those gas-powered compactors and spend a day making it happen the way you want it to on that pathway. Pressure washers are the best, especially one with some snot behind it. A guy can do so much with one of those.
Happy Birthday Brooks...love those cowgirl boots, very nice. Jackie's new color is a great color. I always enjoy your taking us along to see all the new happenings at the Ponderosa. Can't wait for your surprise.....
Jackie is on her nap time, she is so sweet. The barn looks great. Awesome camera angles...Brooks looks just like you 💕 adorable. Age 3 is so fun learning and exploring, wanting to help.
Jackie is like do I want to be here? Thanks for bring us along. It was a beautiful day & just an easy day. Brooks is so cute collecting eggs. Wow, 3 yrs old she is growing so fast! Take care & see you next time👋❤️🙏😃🤗 God Bless you & your family. Can't wait for the surprise!
Happy birthday to three year old Brooks she's having fun with the chicks . So awesome. I enjoyed watching the work of cleaning the chicken coup area . With power water sprayer fun stuff. And using that mini tractor is so useful with different tool application s. Makes easier diet movement to areas wonderful machine. And ride to vet with Jackie that was fun to see her enjoy the ride in your truck. And her new collar too. She seemed so happy and having a great time also. Those hens have their own personality I can tell claiming there territory space after you cleaned it.silly hens . It was an eventful day at the Ranch. Thank you for sharing this video today . In future I hope I can purchase some bison jerky and a cap 🧢 and T -Shirt with your Logo on it. Just because I know your protection and guidance of Bison business and respect research and ranching with Bison animal s. And you use your video s for education and knowledge for future reference as well so wonderful job to you using all your skills and knowledge with your viewers like me . If you measure out a triangle block to put on top of the wood ledge, it should be steep enough to keep the chickens from walking on it and thereby keep chicken poop out of a few troughs.
We have a County Fair here. Canfield Fair. The Rooster is the mascot. The tag line is "Something To Crow About ". Oldest and largest County Fair in the State of Ohio.
Happy Third Birthday Brooke! 🤗 Enjoy watching y'all just doing the business of ranching. Have a wonderful weekend! You are a beautiful family. God Bless
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Brooks! You are growing up So Fast! 🎈🎈🎈💟💜💜💜 Dusty you did a Great Job Cleaning Out the New Part of the Barn, I CAN'T Wait to See What the NEW ANIMAL IS !! 💞💖💞
Your can but or make bird prongs like used on some factories to keep pigeons from roosting. Take a 2x4 , drive 16d nails through it and nail it to the top of the back of the feed bunk.
The power washing made the barn so good looking. Love the rooster who had so much to say. And Brooks and her chickens and eggs are so cute. Happy birthday to her. A pony/horse will fit right in to the ranch. Why did Jackie go to the vet?? She is such a good dog.
the rooster loves to talk to you... brings back memories growing up we would visit our Aunts and Uncles farms...and collect the eggs and ride horses...
Dusty, I love to hear Mr Rooster crow.. makes me feel I’m out on a farm! Everything looks so nice. Y’all have really made strides in getting the Ponderosa established. Poor Jackie, getting fixed? No puppies? Brooke is adorable.. beauty eggs n chicks.
Happy birthday to beautiful Brooks 🥳 Will you be getting Charlie a collar? I enjoy your channel but as I'm a cat person I also enjoy seeing Charlie.....and all the rest. Looking forward to the new surprise
A suggestion on that 2x4 in the coop turn it so the 4 inches is flat and it is easy for them . Sand so they do not get splinters or cover it with old carpet.❤ hope it helps.❤
Feed them just before they roost, then shut them in. Do that for a couple weeks and they will get used to roosting inside. This will need a lot of trekking to the Ponderosa every evening tho. You may need to give a little more protection from rain/wind, which the siding provides when they roost up high.
Love watching your channel, one of my favorites! Love the bison and love how great you are with Brooks!! She's so cute, smart and getting so big. Arms Family Homestead is also a favorite!! You all are so great!!!
I don’t keep chickens myself but my neighbours do n they put the chickens feed in to there overnight area before the door shuts at night to encourage them to go in… they only feed them at night too for the first couple of wks so that the chickens r hungry enough n would go straight in xxx
Clip their wings, put in coop for 2=3 weeks, then let them out during the day. They should then think coop is home and return there in the late afternoon
GOOD IDEA‼️❗️ that would be easier! And definitely CLIP THE WINGS solve poopy problems up high..
He has coyotes showing up around the barn during the day. You don't want to clip wings because they won't be able to get up high enough to not be killed.

He has Thor !! He was just misbehaving so he's at his mom's until Jackie gets older !!
That rooster could become supper.

Brooks is so cute & gentle with her chicks. Happy Birthday, sweet girl! Can’t wait to see what is coming to the Ponderosa!
Happy birthday, Brooks! 🎈
Ha, Ha! Real heavy chickens packing down the pathway! Good one!

That is so sad😪
I have seen it too often, and it is totally preventable. That makes it even more devastating❤️

A donkey?
You can always keep a bucket with some hay in it to collect your eggs 🥚. That's what we do. Brooks is growing so fast! She's precious!
Getting your wife a horse finally huh Dusty? 😊💞🐎
I'm thinking pony for Brookes, because she's the one who's excited. 😊
Or a lamb or a kid.
If they gets a horse or a pony they are going to need two. Horses are pack animals and need buddies for safety.

Three already!!😮
Pretty little farm hand! 🥰
We always let our chickens out in the morning . But, at dusk, they all went to the coop. We just would shut it at night after they were in
Jackie is on her nap time, she is so sweet. The barn looks great.
Awesome camera angles...Brooks looks just like you 💕 adorable. Age 3 is so fun learning and exploring, wanting to help.
"Me help!!!"
I can’t believe how much Brookes hair has grown, she’s a little doll!
Cog Hill Farms keeps them locked up for a few weeks and then starts letting them out. It works

Happy belated birthday, Brooks! Nice to see how your family grows and your herd, too. Can't wait to find out what comes next. Horse or pony, maybe?
OR - you could create an angled cap along the top of the feed troughs that they can't perch and walk on.
To change the chickens nighttime ritual, put them in the cage and keep them in for a week or two.
. It will teach them where their home is.
It's a.amazing what s little power spray will do to.dust! Great job!
