@@IvanBassist I think it was you that did the pre amp comparison and I liked that pedal least of all but now I think it sounds awesome. Such a good drive sound that is not thin and distorted only on the top end.
I my experience, I find that the YYZ is too harsh when mid and/or drive is cranked up. That's why I'd rather use it as a preamp with another drive pedal to boost it up. And of course, play fingerstyle a la Steve Harris or Geddy Lee for maximum clankiness 😁
I'm a fan of the YYZ pedal. I want to get one soon. The only pedal I have is Tech21 VT Bass character series. It's pretty cool..fun to use. Definitely prefer the YYZ though lol. Nice video! Thanks for posting. Been following your channel for a few weeks and I'm a big fan. LowEndLobster is the man too. He's got a funny thing going on with the claw and all that lol.
Really trying my best to get some growl out of my Pbass without it becoming either too farty or too thin and distorted for the mix. I'm a guitarist first with a narrow library of Bass amp/cab/effect sims and I have no clue what I'm doing

@@kingnothing2161 I can recommend the SVT-VR by Plugin Alliance shown in the beginning of the video or the bass plugins by Neural DSP. It's easy to dial in a great sound with them
@@kingnothing2161 . . . also try a compressor before or after the sim. Getting fairly uniform dynamics on the bass track is pretty important if you are recording/mixing. Klanghelm has a couple great free super simple compressors.
I recently got a YYZ pedal and I love it. The selling point, to me, is the clean channel running parallel underneath - it sounds like it's low-passed AND slightly compressed, which lets it "sit" well underneath the drive channel.
Nice!! Love the sound of the Olympic, but the eq is a bit tricky to dial. I would love to hear the YYZ into the Olympic. Dial the gain a little lower in the olympic, just to give the warmth of the tube, and use the YYZ as overdrive... :-)
Do you ever combine two preamps? For example, the Olympic with the YYZ? Or the Olympic with your Mesa Boogie Subway? Is this something that works, or is it just a weird idea? :)
When you say you start with everything flat on the Olympic I noticed the mid is all the way on. Is that due to the characteristics of a P Bass and that you want to be pushing mids at a minimum?
Fun fact: Glen Hughes of the Dead Daisies plays an Orange AD200B MKIII amp which really nails that vintage Ampeg tone. I have one and it's my favorite amp I've ever owned.
The YYZ pedal sounds awesome
I agree 💪🏽

Yeah, it needs drive to really shine 🔥
Good to see you goin for the YYZ again!
It’s an awesome drive pedal 💪🏽

Thanks for the support! Those two pedals are great! I wanna get a VT bass DI at some point
Great sound man.
Thanks!

Added that to the list! Thanks!
@@IvanBassist Cool! I find the olympic has this nice mid scoop, and I always wonder how that interacts with the YYZ...
Hi Ivan. Great video as allways and waht a P tone man!! What IR are you using in the Nux? Saludos!
I believe that was the Ampeg 8x10
Today is Monday! Achtung!!! :P
haha the episodes come at midnight German time ;) Thanks for watching!
an audio comparison at the end of the video between the 3 audios would have been great.
Good idea 👍🏽

Yes! It definitely works :)

The mids on the olympic are cut only, so full on is the sound with the mids in flat position.

this is not growl. this is just deep and distorted.
How would you describe growl?
Your P-Bass sounds incredible even with everything set to flat, without any effect turned on. Are those original pickups or EMG GZR?
Thanks! Those are the stock G&L LB-100 pickups. I agree this bass sounds great :)
