The wonderful David Attenborough. I met him about 30 years ago and he's exactly as you see him on TV. I'd written I guess you'd cal it fan mail giving thanks to David for his incredible contribution to teaching the general public about Natural History, in particular with his 'Life' series - Life on Earth, Trials of Life, and Living Planet. 3 days after meeting him, he kindly wrote me a hand written letter thanking me for my appreciation of his work. That shows you what an absolutely genuinely kind gentleman he really is. At 94 years of age, he's still working and encouraging us to look after our planet Earth. I tip my hat to you sir, your a gentleman, a scholar, and a national treasure.

@@beataharmati1805 Thanks. David is a wonderful human being. For the last 40 years watching his natural history programs and reading his books, he's basically been like a mentor to me and instrumental in the way I formed and developed my worldview.
Carl Sagan with his Cosmos series and books had a similar effect.
Thanks again for the comment, and peace to you sister.

nah. I met him once at a book signing at Blackwells bookshop, Oxford. I was about 12 years old, and with the wisdom of childhood and hindsight I can say he's a bit of a dickhead, to be honest. People, as far as he is concerned, are an intrusion on his time and his dominion - the natural world. Textbook effete, entitled, mildly misanthropic member of the BBC elite. If this guy really gave a f&ck about the world he'd be physically standing there next to Greta Thunberg at the U.N. What's really frightening is that David Attenborough is pretty much the best we've got to pick from in the older generations.

I saw an abundance of frogs toads and tadpoles when I was 10-15 years old back in my home town. I went back 20 years later and I couldn’t find a single one!
I was devastated, I have to say and hit witness is my witness.
This man is my hero, Sir David, it pains me to see you so sad but at the same time makes me angry with the world for its greed and disregard for the living world. God bless you sir, my hero. Please people listen to this great man because when he is gone, the world will slowly die with him.

Let’s not feel sorry or sad but do our part in whatever capacity to save the earth. Start with reducing consumption. Buy what we need not what we want. Live simply. I believe that’s his message to us.

Overpopulation isn’t the problem the entire human population today could all fit into the city of London… the unfortunate reality that everyone needs to get to grips with is that there is nothing that can be done to fix the mess we have caused we have destroyed the planet far beyond its repair even david Attenborough said himself we have destroyed not ruined but destroyed it… its fucked

Thank you so much for posting this. I was actually looking for the rest of the stats that he gives, the thing about the vast majority of forest being devoured in less than 100 years.
    So tragic.
My love to you, dear neighbor. We are in this fight together and we will fight with love, and we will succeed, because love never fails and by our love, the love that our creator gave us for His work, we will change dull hearts into wise ones, wasteful fools into wise conservationist, for God loves the human race and the work of His hands, therefore He will bring us justice and help us to preserve what is good for His glory. Amen

When I was a little girl in the early 60s, I remembered seeing walking sticks and praying mantises all the time. I lived in a county setting and with all the pesticide spraying on the fields, by the time I was a teenager, I never saw these creatures there again. On top of that, I cannot begin to tell you how many farmers and people who lived in that region died of cancer. It was a LOT!!

yes My eyes are also wet . A ve seen many documentaries from 80S and 90S and the recent ones as well - what have we done to this world . We can not live insymbiosis with this planet - we just conquer and plunder - for the cash to come now - damn the future . Our consument art of life is getting us to the point of no return . And this man knows it the best. Wittnesing the decline in one mans life .... can u imagine ? im so sad . Wish I coud do something ... turn back the time and tell them not to go this way ... my deepest respect and bow in front of this remarkable gentleman .

David Attenborough has witnessed the change first hand.
The reality of the impact of man kind upon the natural world is undeniable.
There is no ecosystem on earth that remains untouched.
Even isolated caves are found to be increasing in acidity.
Ocean depths where plastic and tin has already found it's self a grave.
There is hope. There is action. There are those who dedicate ourselves to the renewal of the natural world.
Forests i walked in dead silence but for breaking twigs beneath my feet are now loud and alive.
The chorus of song birds, the caw of corvids, the screams and barks of foxes now fill the air.
Rivers that saw only toxic water flow to dead bay, now carry water full of rich sediment along banks home to voles and frogs and water birds of so many variety as reeds and marsh flowers flank the run to the welcome embrace of the shore where meets the sea now home to basking sharks in record numbers and all kinds of ecology from mountain to sea.
This is your world. This, all that you see around you is your legacy.
Leave it not worse for having been found.
From me in the past to you in the future.
I am sorry. And I am trying.

don't worry sir you're doing your part and God & Nature will reward you.
personally, I'm trying my best even if I'm the only one, God is my witness and I'm seeing rewards from mother nature, I can feel it when I get close to animals that I'm a friend.

For my part, I contribute to different wildlife reserves around the world, especially those for African, Forest, and Asian Elephants; Giraffes; Okapi; Lions; Rhinoceroses; and in North America, Bison, Brown Bears, and other prairie mammals. If we can all build up these reserves, the different species will survive, perhaps to thrive again if the human population reaches a steady state. And in my own backyard, I create a miniature reserve.

Its a complete paradox that we humans are in need to save this Earth planet from our self's-humans, but this is not the first time we did destroy, it looks like that is all we can do, even if we create something and build it, we must in the processes destroy other thing, sad story. TH
