Really interesting information! I know nothing about horses and found this channel by watching cow hoof trimming. Very interesting about them walking through water to keep the hoof moist at least 1x a day
Thank you Caleb. For another great video. You have too little rain, and we've had too much rain. Talk about a dichotomy!! We're having to look out for Thrush in all our horses right now because of the amount of rain we've received up here in Eastern Ontario. We've had 2 tornadoes go through, thankfully, only property damage. But the rain did help some of the wildfires we have going in our neighboring province of Quebec. And it's also started 2 more with lightning strikes. But, other than that, all is well up here. I hope you have a great weekend!! She does have a nice healthy looking hoof...that frog is massive. You can see how pretty the hoof is when you rasped it. Great idea using the sprinkler to get some moisture on the ground for horses to walk through. I can well imagine owners thinking they can work on their horses hooves. It's more of a science when you understand the dynamics of the hoof. Then they find they can't do it or they mess up the stance of the horse, which leads to different problems with the horse. Thanks for another great video.
Thank you for saying how hard it is to nip through. My farrier of 20 years passed and its dawned on me that noone wants to come to trim my two. So ive bought the equipment and am struggling along. Thanks for the videos!
What I liked about the farrier I had was he always wanted to see the horse walk and trot before he worked on them. He said it gave him a better idea of how to shoe watching the horse move. What do you think?
Aloha Caleb! Those huge hoofs look too hard for to trim. You look like you were cutting through a hardwood. Thank for your videos I much appreciate it appreciate it. Mahalo!!!
Another excellent video, Lakota is such a beauty, do you trim a lot of mule's? If so i would love to see that, you give such great advice, just a terrific channel, thank you very much Caleb, and take care.👍💙🐎
Good advice about wetting the ground where you feed your horses. Overflowing their water trough helps, but they only stand there long enough to get a drink, whereas if you wet the ground where they are fed they will stand there much longer while they eat. Of course if they are on pasture and not in a pen that may not work, but you could give them a little grain once in a while to get them to come in and stand in a wet area..
Some of my heavier weight hand tools - tree loppers, tinsnips, bolt cutters - use a ratchet mechanism to augment the power. Wouldn't something similar help here?
@@caleberickson_The_Dying_Breed Duh!! I’m such an idiot!! Good. It seemed so silly and such an incredible waste of your time; plus very costly for you , if you were actually making 4 separate trips for each horse. As always, thanks for explaining or clarifying for me! Have a good evening. 😀😀👍👍❤️❤️
The frog pelvis resembles the shape of the foot structure on the horse. Many believe that it became a colloquialism to refer to the hoof part as a frog because of the belief that horses feet and specifically horseshoes also carry good luck.
She is so beautiful! Thx for showing her too! Love the trim
Interesting comment about the mules. TYVM

Are you going to see Lizzie soon? Love these draft horse videos.
Unfortunately Lizzy went to a new home so I don't get to see her 😢
My mule has contracted front heels and a skinny frogs Hard hooves too. You talked about hard hooves. At some point, can you go over contracted heels?
I China they use a wood planer to shape the hoof
Y DID it take so long 2 get cleaned......
R they on a schedule 2 get them Cleaned
THANK YOU FOR CLARITY ON THE FROG
For those dry hoof can ypu apply some products to moisturize before start work on it ?
Best thing is to let them stand in water
Why did you leave so much distortion on this hoof?
Hi Caleb what breed is the horse you are doing
Caleb, How come you don’t do all four hooves the same visit -- or do you and I just misunderstood because each hoof is its own video? Thanks. ❤❤
I do them all in one visit just don't put them all in the same video

Why is it called a frog
I just have to know, why is it called a frog?
